No, music usually has certain beats to it, and its up to the dancers to stay on the music (Certain steps go to certain beats). What they do is choreographed but they must get their dance on to the music first.

@icecreamdog0208 yes, you have 5dances, Cha cha,samba,rumba,paso and jive. They dance all of them in open and 5 dance latin comps.
