The UK has roughly 8,000 troops in Afghanistan while the US has 33,000. If the 33,000 Americans were to suddenly pull out (leaving the Brits to themselves), then things would become slightly chaotic until more troops were sent by the British government.

Americans and the British are working together, going on patrol together and looking out for each others' backs. You mess with one country then you receive the wrath of the two.
