  • I'm Glad To See I'm Not The Only One Who Digs This Scene. Loved It Since I First Saw It 20 Years Ago (Wow!) When I Was 11.

  • love this movie, saw it when first came out and recently again - he hit the button with this one!

  • Great!

  • If I had the power........

I'd have found the one by now.

I love this movie, even though I cry everytime I watch it.

  • this should be a classic!steve martin, enya!heartbreaking love story from real life weddeds,i saw steve with my wife last week at the apollo in london..he was amazing and i was awestruck.

  • you cant go wrong with Enya. And you cant go wrong with this scene. Ive not seen this movie yet, but i already understand it

  • Enable embedding please.

  • title of this song, for LA story, airplane scene seems to be Exile, on enya watermark cd..

  • This is probably my all-time favorite movie scene ever. Thanks for putting it online. I dunno, it just makes me happy/sad :)

  • for me - the storm never came... and ive regretted it ever since

  • *blissful sigh*

  • a wonderful scene!

  • '' All I know is, on the day your plane was to leave, if I had the power, I would turn the winds around, I would roll in the fog, I would bring in storms, I would change the polarity of the earth so compasses couldn't work, so your plane couldn't take off. ''

  • "...but it is what we wish were true."

  • i have her ...but she needs to know how i met the love ive my life

  • this movie rules

  • he felt like it was 'ended', but he never gives up hope. and it turned out that it hadn't 'ended' as she & he had thought. Hope blest. The heart knows things that the mind cannot imagine.

  • One of the "coolest" movie scenes I know. ;-)

  • Entertaining, creative movie. LOL @ the cinema revue of the movie "Slice of Mommy".

  • wonderfull :*

  • I can't believe there are people in the world who don't love this movie.

  • @adsilcott LA Story is one of my all time favs!

  • @adsilcott That's funny. Recently my daughter and I drew the same conclusion. It's like no one gets this movie but a very few.

She just moved to LA and works in the movie industry. We haven't seen the movie together for years, so to celebrate her new job we watched it together. Just as fun now as then.

  • I didn't get a storm. She walked away, and she never came back. And from now until the day I die, there is a hole in my life where she should be.

  • @Parrotguy1999 same here. its been 20 years for me, but the hurt has never healed.

  • does enyone know what song this is.

  • Lovely clip! It works because Steve and Victoria were married to each other at the time. The emotions are real.

  • I think is beautiful(weeps)

  • Top 10 movie without doubt

  • Steve Martin is a great actor. He goes from comedic player to dramatic front man.

  • I don't think many movies can have you laughing at "Pointy birds..." and then crying 2.5 minutes later. This movie's for the ages.

And LA, your native son has honored you with this.

  • It's false science. That can't happen. Only the government can change the weather. Obey the government.

  • One of the greatest Movie Moments of all time

Steve Martin was a genius in this film and this moment was just fabulous.

  • I agree. This move is so under-rated. Sheer brilliance and some of the scenes are pure magic.

  • maaaaan, this movie is magical...

  • I want to find this rOAD sIGN......

  • Comment removed

  • This movie fascinates the hell out of me...if it weren't for the unique angle with the sign and the Enya ingredient, it would just be another mundane romantic comedy from the early 90's.

  • I love "The Pointy Birds!"

  • love the part when you get the cockpit view of the 767 and the compass fails

  • Dang, this is a beautiful movie.

  • best movie ever.

  • amo esta pelicula, su filosofia te hace pensar lo que en verdad vale la pena, y lo que estas dispuesto a entregar por ello.

  • Estoy de acuerdo, es una película un poco tonta, pero te hace pensar ..

  • if there ever was a sentimental comedy. this is THE ONE. Total. Definitive.

  • One of the best scenes in history of motion pictures

  • Thank you. This is one of the best movies ever. It is severely underrated.

  • Enya Exile

  • songname???

  • Love this movie and love Enya. I can never get enough of her music, she is a very talented woman. I Love you Enya!!!

  • Harris: Let us just say - I was deeply unhappy, but I didn't know it, because I was so happy all the time.

  • oh pointy birds, oh pointy, pointy...lol

  • Steve is obviously a fan of "America's first one-armed poet" ... this work- Pointy Birds is also featured in "The Man with Two Brains"

  • This movie is what got me into Enya music.

  • Me, too!!

  • It is one of his best works and as it was hers...And music is wonderful. Exile is one of her best works also. A all round good film... And your right i do wish Steve could do more films like this one...

  • Steve martin is greatly underated by latest films given to him.. he could make more amazing movies like this one

  • This is the movie that taught me the impact of music on film; how it can literally carry the story to a level that dialogue and cinematography alone can not. This whole movie is so beautiful, it's one of my favorites. Going from your typical Steve Martin comedy, to taking such a serious and touching twist at the end. Hands down the best Steve Martin film. It's full of magic, laughter, beauty, emotion, and love. If you haven't seen it, buy it now, you wont be sorry.

  • OMG.. you are so right. this scene and the end with Enya.

    goosebumpbs

  • I actually think this is the movie that made me fall in love with cinema. I remember watching it for the first time as a kid and being so moved, so touched, and I though, "Wow, I had no idea a movie can touch me in such a way." I only hope to have something in resemblance in my art....even if it's just a tiny bit

  • Good comment. Fully agree with you.

  • Best Steve Martin film ever!

  • What Enya song is this? I love it!!!

  • Exile

  • @jakeshriker

    think so, sounds like it.

    very impressing music!

  • Exile

  • This is one of my favourite movies - gives me goosebumps everytime...I always loved the chemistry between Sarah and Harris - particularly the scene where the sign tells him to kiss her - only just found out that they were married whilst filming this so probably explains it!

  • I love this movie also. Particularly the speech about rolling in fog and bringing in storms. It just sounds so sincere.

  • Excellently orchestrated scene. The music was totally in sync with the scene. It really plays the heartstrings & the statement it makes is so true. If someone has enough love for someone, that love can move heaven & earth if it has to. When two people really love eachother, nothing can get in their way. That is the power & connection love has. The electricity between them was excellently played out. That's the way love should be. A kiss isn't the truth but what you wish was the truth......amen!

  • Very moving and powerful scene.

  • I wish someone would post that scene where he drives from his house to his next door neighbor's.

  • My favorite Movie Ever

  • one of the best matches for film and music, complimenting themselves on film.

  • Awesome song and completely in sync with the emotions felt by both people, the panpipes are so powerful it gives me goosebumps.

  • i heard this song in the movie...i waited for the end credits so i could see who it was by...ran to the music store next day looking for enya...been a fan since

  • I LOVE ENYA...she is such a GREAT musician...that voice is Beautiful

  • Thank you for putting this up, such a great scene, makes me cry every time

  • I agree with you pibble...this is a GREAT scene!...makes me cry as well

  • BELLA PELICULA.

  • i would love to get hold of the version of this song. and that line, about knowing about love, its true. i did not know i was in love, till the girl went to leave me. then, mt heart sank, i felt like steve in the film. i did not have the storm to bring her back to me. i knew i should not let her leave. if i could have turned the weather, i would have. still, i did talk to her. that was about five months ago, now we are getting married in 2010.

  • Yeah, I went through this too... I had no storms, or angelic traffic signs on my side... unfortunately my story remained sad...

  • this scene made me cry when it was happy for me, and it still makes me cry when it's sad, and the reason I cry is never consistent.

    C'est la vie

  • Yes.

And this is one reason why this is my favorite movie.

  • @deckland Congrats. Good to hear that it worked out. I had a girl leave on a plane to another country. This scene always makes me sad (even though I love the scene and the movie) because it reminds me of her.

  • arrrgh this vid just won't load properly for me!!!!

  • One of my favorite movies ever

  • "Why is it that we don't always recognize the moment when love begins but we always know when it ends?"

My favourite line in the movie. Makes me think. Born & raised in L.A., I really can identify with many of the moments in this film. Bravo, Steve!

  • happy now Jodie?

  • anyone who can tell me torrent server where i can find this movie pls ....

  • this is the best clip of the movie. ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. FABULOUS!!!!

  • Lovely!!!!

  • This is, without doubt, my favourite film. It's one of those movies that just gets better every time you watch it. There are sight gags and throw-away lines that some writers would base entire scenes on.

  • i love the fact that is an underrated movie, it´s a "feel-good" movie, is maybe shallow and by all means commercial. all that is true, there´s nothing to make a serious statement to anyone to me those are the reasons to see it as a gem to see beyond pretensions, just know that sometimes beauty lies in unexpected places, i don´t even speak English, maybe i even miss some subtle scenes and still, i´m moved to find in my reality something from all that dreamy vision of life

  • i'm dying tooo see this movie...its been like 12 years...

can anybody tell me where to see it online...

    i love this!!

  • Steve Martin wrote, this. He's a very talented man and this is a very funny and poignant movie.

  • The full poem (an original by Steve Martin):

    "Oh, pointy birds

    Oh, pointy-pointy

    Anoint my head

    Anointy-nointy"

  • Brilliant edit, including that important bit at the beach as a setup... love it.

  • classic

  • Watched this movie last week on DVD, had not seen it in 14 years, mate still gets you at the end with Enya and the LOVE.

  • and when Steve and Victoria touched the window so the electricity combined them and the signed sparkled like h*ll..that sign have the great power, its that sign as an angel (that loves to get a hug) inside that sign because he only use is power for good:)

  • Im not so found of the movie but when that post sign use his entire might to stop that MD-11 plane, with fog, rain, lighting, thunder and changed the polaris so the compass became unfunctional it was class..superb and only that scene made it one of the best movie I have seen:) Gods bless

  • everybody should experience this film and the world may be a better place........

  • ...but it is what we wish were true.

  • this is such an under rated movie. Truly a special film. the quote about not knowing when love begins is so true... it sucks.

  • what a great movie it is! Steve Martin for the actor and Enya for the music...

  • one of my favourite movies of all time. and so totally underrated! how special a movie is when it can make you truly feel that magic is still possible.....

  • I second that comment

  • this film captures that essence of love that surpasses reason and logic, its just that gut feeling that is undeniable, its so special to be a part of that feeling, i miss it so...

  • Never, ever, stop believing in magic. Steve Martin is a genius.

  • a kiss may not be the truth, but it is what we wish were true. Wonderful memories.

  • I love Sarah Jessica in this movie... WOOO!

  • A phenomenal movie! And hard to give it justice with a clip of any kind. Does anyone know if anyone has put the flower garden scene online? The scene where he and Victoria turn into children while holding hands...

  • Yes - It is called "Wonderful" and it is on the list of related videos (at least for me)down the right side - the fifth one down.

  • I've LOVED this song ever since I saw "LA Story". It's SO CALM and SOOTHING! :P

  • This movie is amazing and this is the part of the movie that always gives me chills. What an amazing movie with love, humor, and a little magic. Wonderful, wonderful, and yet again wonderful.

  • love it!

  • This is Steve's best movie ever. OR at least my favorite.

    I love it!

  • great place to start and stop recording ...this was the best part of the movie...thanks for dropping it on youtube!

  • These exact scenes have been bouncing in my head lately. I am living exactly what Harris is going through. His words to her on the beach are my feelings exactly. Strangely enough, on the day her flight left, storms and wind did strike the city, but alas, they were not powerful enough. She left and my heart aches.

  • That is real life. Love by itself is not strong enough. Plus, if two people really love each other, why the hell is one of them leaving forever?!

  • Yes, very effective use of music in that film. I love LA Story and it easily gets in my top ten. I'm forever recommending this film , saying don't expect anything from this film, just suspend your disbelief and enjoy, oh and have a box of tissues ready for those happy tears. They won't understand till they've see it.

  • excellent and moving scene..too bad their real life marriage failed. ENYA's Exile song really brought this scene to another level...thanks for posting...c

  • Great movie. Truly funny and romantic. A classic! Any clips featuring the matrix board?

  • I wanna be loved like THAT.

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE this move!! Thanks!!!

  • Two words, F#@king brillaint!

  • Love Victoria Tennant. Very different from her role in Flowers in the Attic.

  • i've never seen this movie.. but this clip makes me want to watch the whole thing!!! i've never been so amazed by a movie's artistry in just a few minutes..

  • This is my favorite movie of all time. From the moment I saw it when I was just a boy to now into my adulthood. You should absolutely see it.

  • I dont like LA story that much but the when that "trafic sign" stoped that MD-11 plane with that quine of effects and made changed the polaris on the compass and Enya who sings as an angel..thats class..thank you jakeshriker..God bless

  • @dontiburon: LA Story is arguably one of the finest movies ever to come out of Hollywood written and made by an 'auteur' from the US. The level of work that went into this - it was an ongoing project for seven years, the span of Vicky's relationship with Martin (which ran aground at this time). And love had no effect on the weather - the signpost did. LA signposts are wicked! :)

  • This is my favorite movie! Thanks for the clip.

  • "Why is it that we don't always recognize when love begins, but we always know when it ends"

One of the best lines in the whole move..my other favorite is, "the weather will change your life..twice". This is such a great, romantic, beautiful, funny movie, one of my favorites.

  • This is such a wonderful, romatic ,mystical, scene from the movie...thanks

  • LOL!!! The line about being "a man that can cry...". Martin is a complete comic genius.

  • This is my favorite movie! Thanks for the clip.

  • This scene I can watch over and over, with Enya´s Exile.

That line always gets to me too,

"Why is it that we don't always recognize when love begins, but we always know when it ends"

  • best part of the movie

  • Thank you for posting this scene. It's quite possibly my favourite scene from any movie, period, and it's one of the few things that I can reasonably expect to make me, a 21-year-old man, cry. I really needed a good cry today, but my copy of this movie is 500 miles away from where I am right now. I'm so thankful I found a copy of this scene; it was absolutely worth it. Thank you, thank you, thank you once again.

  • Thankyou so much for posting this. One of my fsvorite films too. Makes me cry every time. Wonderful xxx

  • A memorable scene from a great movie. Thanks for posting this. Steve Martin is a great actor/comedian.

  • I ADORE this film. Enya too!

  • I LOVE this film, love it love it love it!!! and the song at the end, really sweet!!

  • The song is Exile by Enya.

  • I have to admit - i cried like a baby when i saw this movie for the first time. Awesome movie. As much as its true i hate that saying.. "why is it that we don't always recognize when love begins, but we always know when it ends" Wonderful movie - thank you SO much for posting this. Added to favorites.

  • Oh how wonderful to post this! :)
