I don't even know why I'm bothering to reply, but the firearm he was carrying was a Glock. Glocks don't have a selectable safe switch. If there's a round chambered, and you pull the trigger, the gun will fire. There was no saftey for him to switch "off" even if he had wanted to.

I think the NFL has a concurrent policy. That is to say, that any time he misses being on the inactive roster counts as time he would miss due to an NFL policy suspension. He's going to be suspended, likely for a significant amount of games, and he wouldn't be eligible for a post season run, so why not just take the time now, and recouperate for the 2010 season?

The NFL handles things differently though. They're very careful to make sure their league doesn't get labeled negatively. While other leagues have received bad names, whether it be MLB with steroids, or the NBA with the Malice at the Palace, the NFL has managed to avoid that. In large part it's because of Goodell recently who doesn't play around. If you get in trouble, then he's coming down.

From Goodell's POV, he's about protecting the league first. It's a luxury to be in the NFL, not a right.

I think that our punishments are way too harsh for this crime (along with many others), but... people can't be getting preferential treatment.

So I think he should be punished, not to the "full extent of the law," but like anyone else would be. Same went with the whole Michael Vick situation.

I don't buy the "setting an example" BS they give for why cimes are punished so harshly. The punishments should fit the crimes.

Here is WHY the NFL and the Giants SHOULD suspend him.

1. He was carrying a gun with no permit. It's not just about kids impressions... it says more about HIM as a citizen.

2. There are OTHER ways to protect yourself when you have THAT kind of money. Be smart.

3. He is LUCKY to be in the NFL... making the money he does and enjoying the stardom that it brings.
