I usually really agree with nuntfancy, but I find it odd that he chose meals that need to be prepared with a stove. Especially since he only has two meals. My kit allows for five meals b/c i use things like packaged tuna and sausages, bars, etc, that can be eaten straight. huh.
I see your videos for this that you were in my home town of Filthadelphia. Loved this 3 part series. As an alternative to the Snickers bars (chocolate melts) I have carried "Payday" candy bars for hiking, biking, hunting etc. They're salty and sweet with peanuts and nougat. Also cheaper then sports bars.
Im honestly scared to live in a post apocalyptic world, because I dont think nutnfancy is a bad guy, but I know that there are many good guys like him that are as much as, if not more trigger happy than nutnfancy. Especially down here in texas.
Im a good guy, and in a WROL situation I would do my best to help my family, neighbors, and friends; but I KNOW WITHOUT A DOUBT if nutnfancy and I encountered each other in such a situation it would almost undoubtedly end in armed conflict.
the pictures of the towers are the start of the video..i didnt lose anyone there but knowing my countrymen died in that... sends shivers down my spine and makes me tear up..
re the caption at 11:58 what are you talking about VHF radios are worse for use in buildings? Its the other way round UHF is worse in buildings because it doesn't penetrate as well. Also, they are the same price to buy UHF or VHF radios. And those radios are not vhf they are UHF if they are FRS radios. all FRS and GMRS radios are UHF only MURS is VHF.
@yec1JF agreed, a couple hours of them marching around parade square with rifles and next thing you know, poland is on fire and there's cktoberfest in france
another food i think would be good in a U.S.K. is 1 or 2 packs of dried noodles like 2minute noodles or some other kind because they are very light and u only need a little bit of water
great video series ntnfancy. add a crank flashlight to the kit there cheap and sometimes free as promotional gifts. I got mine from a carhart rep. dont need batteries and you never have t worry about it going dead when you need it.
I also have ditch points around town that I can use to hide useless items, if you run out of batteries and need to loose some wieght I will find my ditch point and hide some of the items to retrieve when I have time/opertunity.
i also own same keltec 380 its small and very concealable but i dont like the trigger pull you have let the trigger come all the way back to the front to reset lot of times and they are notorious for not shooting hollow points well they sometimes jam goin up the ramp into the chamber but full metal jackets work fine in them or take the time to fix the ramp your self with fine grit sand paper and polishing the ramp and def worth the time of doing if its going to be your defense weapon
the motorola 2-way radios are model MR350R they are a quality set with rechargable battery packs included and a dual charging dock but also can function with 3"aa" batteries as back up, 22 channels 121 sub sets per channel, built in light on bottom, average real range in urban setting ive used up to mile and a half before breaking up and losing connect.USB connection on left side, also national weather service radio channel function included, MULTI purpose nice set to look into overall
Good vid. I think the stove is unnecessary though. Just take food that doesn't need cooking. 4 lights are excessive, too, and the TalkAbouts probably are as well. I'd rather bring more food. Dust masks are a great idea and take negligible space. Put the glasses in a the doo-rag or silk bag. If you shoot through two boxes of ammo, you're phucked. Just take 2 spare mags. Smaller mace. Steri-pen or tablets. Space blanket- you're going for survival, not comfort.
Hey there, Thank you for sharing this. I found it mega informative and helpful. One question: if one's living in a country like me where weapons aren't allowed to have without permission, what would you suggest to carry for selfdefense apart from the pepper spray ? Any suggestions? I carry a small knife but wonder if I could improve my safety somehow.Maybe you've an idea, I'll appreciate it. Thanks again !
Lights are always good to have, aside from normal lights though I like to carry some chemlights, or breaksticks depending on how you like to call them. I have them in a pencil box in my packs and I keep a fair amount in my car, more than 10. They are just handy because they last for many hours and have more functions than just lighting including signals and for Hole checking..sounds odd I know, but at night in a city with no lights, don't you want to know how far it is to the bottom?

Viewed this particular series before but decided to come back to it after having spent several days in Vancouver. There's really a lot of solid thinking and concepts in this series. I think I appreciated it even more the second time. One of the things viewers should note is that Nutn often emphasizes the fact that his USK isn't necessarily your USK. This is useful for getting people to think about their own kit, whether it's 5lbs or 25lbs, with varying levels of comfort & capability.

1:48 I know the firefighter to the far left. I wont disclose his name but he was the father of a good friend of mine. still alive. health issues though. What a terrible day.
I gotta admit, and I haven't watched much of your myriad of videos of yet, but you definately cover many good points very thouroughly. Having gone through a few scenerios where having even the most basic gear helped myself and others I applaud your commitment. Straightforward no nonsense, I have many friends don't necessarily get 'being prepared'. Yet I feel they could look at the project and get something from it. I'd give you a youtube 'emmy'.
Nutinfancy, i was wondering. i noticed one small thing that you didn't include in your usk. what kind of head wear would you take? on top of your sweat band. perhaps something with a large bill to keep you out of the sun and relatively cooler?
@DaddyAske I almost feel pity for people like you. I hope shit never hits the fan, but boy oh boy, when it does, the only thing you will have to say to yourself "Baaaah". But to each his own.
lock picks are defiantly worth adding. barley any weight and space, and even if you cant pick very well you might be with someone who can. also in a desperate situation you can just stand there and rake the lock until it opens. I think its a great add to a usk like system that would prevent you from needing to bust open a window or use some bull cutters to get into a building for shelter if needed.
@thisisyourgrandma Yes, it made me think of the great lengths that Israel is wiling to go to in manipulating us to fight their wars for them. Pretty cunning people indeed.
Just a heads up for eveyrone to do their own research and form their own decisions on: artificial refined white sugar is not suitable as an emergency food source. Check out "Sugar Blues" by William Dufty and "Suicide by Sugar" by Nancy Appleton PhD.
One thing I noticed that you forgot, probably because it doesn't apply to you: A spare set of prescription glasses. I know I would be useless without glasses, so I always pack a spare. Unfortunately, it's really expensive, but it is kind of required.
Hey nutnfancy, what about maintaining your electronics. Do you do anything special to maintain batteries in your flashlights, radios, and other electronic devices?
@Nutnfancy Hey Nutn, The disaster in japan is really forcing me to reassess my own USK, especially since I live just 3 miles from a nuclear power plant and 30 miles from New York City (I could see the smoke from 9/11 from a hill near my house). They are really small, cheap, and could help if there is an accident at the plant, or god forbid, a terrorist attack with radiological weapons. Just thought I'd give you a heads up
@bigj687 I live in a medium sized suburb outside Vancouver, BC. It is my hope that in the community that I live in, and perhaps yours as well would act in times of behaviour like the Japanese had. In the hours and days following the tsunami, there were no incidents of looting. People still lined up to get food or water. I wonder though if Nutn's perspective on how people in our cultures might behave in time of disaster. Help yourself, help others, but always protect yourself.
@mrjagill First off I'm really embarressed because I just realized I forgot to mention I was talking about the potassium iodide pills that help with radiation. But in response to you, mrjagill, it's already been demonstrated how people will act. There will be lawlessness and looting, even if only for a few days. Plus, I'd rather be on the prepared side than on the SOL side. But I would have to agree, I have great respect for the japanese, seeing how they responded to the crisis.
Great videos! I wanted to add that in lieu of the snickers bar you may want to opt for something healthier like trail mix or a big bag of nuts with dehydrated fruits. Just thought to throw it out there seeing how they would cost the same weigh about the same but nuts and dehydrated fruits will give longer sustenance and nourishment and stabilize blood sugar without crashes than candy bars. Subscribed.
Another good snack option is a powdered meal mix that has vitamins/nutrients, Source of Life, any protein powder that can be mixed with water. They typically have a long shelf life (and can last even longer if stored properly). This eliminates the need for cooking gear and if you need a very light pack (kids etc).
@pakifucker999999999 i totally disagree with your comment. that keltec comes in at sub 10 ounces. show me any .22 with specs like that...much less w/ a longer barrel and more power. it's not possible to have a .22 that has more power and is more conelable. a long gun/barrel is going to completely blow the usk concept out of the water. even a full size 22 rimfire rifle, while it wil be more accurate, will have less ft/lbs of energy. not to mention be umpteen times heavier and bulkier.
I love this series of videos. I remember waiting day by day for each part of the series to be posted. I'm preparing a bug out bag/USK as we speak, and I'm referring back to these vids often. Being from Philly, I love the hometown footage too! Thanks, Nutn!
@nutnfancy do you not have your own username? and what is the point of announcing yourself as "nutn's sister"? your actions seems to suggest that you are looking for praise because you are "nutn's sister". I am also curious to know why you are thanking someone for providing information in reference to a video that was neither made nor posted by you. Again, just curious. Don't take it personally.
@DustinTheGoth you are wrong nad you are right, the human body can function god for 3 days with out water, you can surview up to 10 days without water but you will not function normally.
@DustinTheGoth IF that human body is in peak condition, it can go as long as 3 weeks, but y9ou still have to be chewing something, like grass or weeds to keep the digestive system working.
@DustinTheGoth Excellent Point: It's sometimes referred to as "The Rule Of Three's" it is one of those "Your mileage may vary" statements.... 3 mins without air, 3 Hours of exposure (Temperatures/shelter), 3 Days without water, 3 Weeks without food.
Though morbid, know that 3 weeks seems long but it is 3 weeks until death. You're correct, even a few missed meals will noticeably reduce energy levels. Multiply this by a few days, with moderate activity, and you will find that your mental and physical capacities are severely limited. You will become irritable and socially withdrawn; if with others. Later, hallucinations, difficulty sleeping, depression, psychotic episodes are possible. 3 weeks is something to think about, not count on.
@bmx65 The typical American diet is very high calorie and high sugar -- much higher than is really needed for being healthy. Fortunately I have high metabolism so I am not among the 50% of Americans clinically obese. If I go without sugar or caffeine more than a few hours I get headaches and fatigue. Breaking these habits is hard and I know in a situation where junk food is no longer plentiful it's going to make survival even harder.
AWESOME. I loved this series and am always updating my "go kit". I have a Yaesu VX-5r Radio but I am a HAM radio operator. Point of info FRS and GMRS radios are UHF. MURS is VHF. VHF has a longer range but eats batteries faster. FRS radios are a great affordable way to communicate in an emergency and like you said nut'n everyone has at least one so you'll be very likely to get in touch with someone on a FRS radio if in an emergency.
Where can i get a flare pin? Also i think alergy medication would be a good thing a lot of people get allergies due to debri, dust, etc during emergencies?
As far as small food ration, don't forget the emergency ration or ER BAR, They come in 2500 and 3500 calorie 72 hour packs that last 5 years, 2- 72 hour packs will stow the same as the 2 mountain house meals (that will need cooking) and the candy bars that will spoil in 2 months...Pack and forget at it's best! I found them WAY cheaper on ebay compared to amazon... Rock on Nutn...--Inept
Viewers must understand the concept of metal fatigue. It's not a good idea to have loaded pistol magazines laying loaded for extended periods of time. The pressure exerted on the springs will cause fatigue and eventually result in a feeding malfunction when that weapon is required in an emergency. Just saying!
@glynnt54 Keeping a spring compressed does not weaken it, keeping a spring un conpressed does not weaken it, loading and unloading the spring weakens it.
I PISSED! myself laughing when you had said well you could shoot it at some one, itd scare the hell out of um, i just got an image of someone like spazzing out if u shot them with one and the look on their face haha!
So far you haven't put Dog food in with those candy bars or a filter mussel for Allie. There is no doubt that if you get hurt she won't leave YOUR side. It appears she digs into your bag sniffing around, leaves her fur, dogs do that. Please pack a quality pouch of dried food for her, give her a reflective collar so you can find her, make sure she can find you with a special whistle she can independently be familiar for long distance separation. You will be heart broken without her. :-(
great job nutn , thanks for the tips. In regards to the comms you could also put an iridium or globalstar satphone in the pack , however it would add some bulk and a little weight.
If there's a nuclear exchange with Russia or China or possibly North Korea or Iran, (it's very very unlikely but not impossible) a high-altitude nuclear device detonating over the continental US could destroy any integrated circuits, transistors, and most electronics even if there is no heat or blast from the nuke. These high-altitude bursts are used primarily for their EMP effect to fry enemy electronics. Those flashlight will be worthless unless they are properly shielded.
The best and simplest way to protect electronics such as radios, computers, phones, LED flashlights, etc. from an EMP is to just wrap them in some thin paper (I use dry eyeglass wipes like Kimtech Science brand) and then wrap them in aluminum foil. It's highly effective but the enemy doesn't expect us to go through the trouble. After about 24 hours after the last bomb detonates you can unwrap them.
@SponsorsSABA I could just set aside some of your most durable flashlights (the ones you plan to pass down to your kids, the ones that are going to last you through the nuclear holocaust) and keep them in some metal or metal-lined containers. A simple metal safe should suffice. Or just a shoe box lined with aluminum foil. You could even protect computers the same way, just make sure it isn't directly touching the tin foil inside.
@DeimosSaturn Thank you for your valuable information. If you ever do a video on the techniques for such a preservation of our equipment, or if you find such a valuable upload please forward that link. Really appreciate the info. and heads up.
Hi, nutnfancy, first off, let me thank you for your videos. They're very helpful.
As for the USK part 2 video: I don't understand your choice of handgun. Sure, these super-compacts, like the P3AT, have their scope of application (ease of EDC, concealability), but I'd regard them inferior for a USK/BOB, because, if you're using a USK/BOB, the likelihood of you having to use your handgun is _very_ much higher than in the EDC-scenario. I'd very much prefer a Glock 26 + 2-4 loaded G17.
an important thing to think about is in a disaster or emergency where are you gonna go. like in 2012 the movie it was important to think about where your gonna end up.
For folks that are commenting that the gun should be larger:
He carries a 9mm all the time, watch his EDC video. I think the EDC set-up you have will have some effect on what you might use in a USK. That's why I don't put a multi-tool or knife in my kit, since I'd already been toting around some good ones 24/7.
Just my opinion but if your being attacked you wouldn't be able to get to your whistle in time. Kind regards

Nutinfancy, i was wondering. i noticed one small thing that you didn't include in your usk. what kind of head wear would you take? on top of your sweat band. perhaps something with a large bill to keep you out of the sun and relatively cooler?

lock picks are defiantly worth adding. barley any weight and space, and even if you cant pick very well you might be with someone who can. also in a desperate situation you can just stand there and rake the lock until it opens. I think its a great add to a usk like system that would prevent you from needing to bust open a window or use some bull cutters to get into a building for shelter if needed.

Nutn,
One thing I noticed that you forgot, probably because it doesn't apply to you: A spare set of prescription glasses. I know I would be useless without glasses, so I always pack a spare. Unfortunately, it's really expensive, but it is kind of required.

Just thought I'd give you a heads up
bigj687 11 months ago
@bigj687 I live in a medium sized suburb outside Vancouver, BC. It is my hope that in the community that I live in, and perhaps yours as well would act in times of behaviour like the Japanese had. In the hours and days following the tsunami, there were no incidents of looting. People still lined up to get food or water. I wonder though if Nutn's perspective on how people in our cultures might behave in time of disaster. Help yourself, help others, but always protect yourself.
mrjagill 11 months ago

Subscribed.

Why not Clif Bars, Clif Shot Bloks, Gels, Candy bars are a good idea. Go Bars.
Nut bars. You can carry more, than with chicken a la king.

Another good snack option is a powdered meal mix that has vitamins/nutrients, Source of Life, any protein powder that can be mixed with water. They typically have a long shelf life (and can last even longer if stored properly). This eliminates the need for cooking gear and if you need a very light pack (kids etc).

pakifucker999999999 1 year ago
@pakifucker999999999 i totally disagree with your comment. that keltec comes in at sub 10 ounces. show me any .22 with specs like that...much less w/ a longer barrel and more power. it's not possible to have a .22 that has more power and is more conelable. a long gun/barrel is going to completely blow the usk concept out of the water. even a full size 22 rimfire rifle, while it wil be more accurate, will have less ft/lbs of energy. not to mention be umpteen times heavier and bulkier.

@DustinTheGoth I think it's amazing the human body can go that long, I get real tired if I even skip 1 or two meals!
bmx65 9 months ago
@bmx65
MrChompenstein 9 months ago
@bmx65 The typical American diet is very high calorie and high sugar -- much higher than is really needed for being healthy. Fortunately I have high metabolism so I am not among the 50% of Americans clinically obese. If I go without sugar or caffeine more than a few hours I get headaches and fatigue. Breaking these habits is hard and I know in a situation where junk food is no longer plentiful it's going to make survival even harder.

kd0928 1 year ago

Viewers must understand the concept of metal fatigue. It's not a good idea to have loaded pistol magazines laying loaded for extended periods of time. The pressure exerted on the springs will cause fatigue and eventually result in a feeding malfunction when that weapon is required in an emergency. Just saying!
glynnt54 1 year ago 2
@glynnt54 Keeping a spring compressed does not weaken it, keeping a spring un conpressed does not weaken it, loading and unloading the spring weakens it.

DeimosSaturn 1 year ago
The best and simplest way to protect electronics such as radios, computers, phones, LED flashlights, etc. from an EMP is to just wrap them in some thin paper (I use dry eyeglass wipes like Kimtech Science brand) and then wrap them in aluminum foil. It's highly effective but the enemy doesn't expect us to go through the trouble. After about 24 hours after the last bomb detonates you can unwrap them.
DeimosSaturn 1 year ago
@DeimosSaturn How can we properly shield our flashlights. Very good point...
SponsorsSABA 1 year ago
@SponsorsSABA I could just set aside some of your most durable flashlights (the ones you plan to pass down to your kids, the ones that are going to last you through the nuclear holocaust) and keep them in some metal or metal-lined containers. A simple metal safe should suffice. Or just a shoe box lined with aluminum foil. You could even protect computers the same way, just make sure it isn't directly touching the tin foil inside.
DeimosSaturn 1 year ago
