1. I had my poor years back in the late 70's when my parents broke up. Food bank, reduced price lunches and I worked my Dad's garden due to a grim determination to grow something we could eat. I did pretty good with it.
It's made me paranoid about finances. It's the reason I chose a modest but nearly depression proof career, and buy an affordable condo and grimly paid it to zero rather than upgrading to a house. Now I'm debt free and live comfortably on 30% of my income.

If an individual would earn $10/h and worked those 2000 hours/year, he would earn $20000. 5 million such jobs would mean $100 billion a year.
Bank bailouts were $700 billion, so with that money you could have employed 5 million people for 7 whole years.
I think there are those 5 million people in USA who would gladly take a job that pays $10/h because work is not just about bringing bread to table, it also creates self-respect and dignity. Man needs to earn his own living.

Many decades ago, when I was stuck in Texas, I was wondering what a fucked up coutnry America was.....where waittresses had to RELY on tips to survive.
And then, when I started working in over 10 diff countries, I realised that TIPPING was only given when an "extraordinary level of service" has been given, and hence, the 'tip" is an additional reward.
The tipping culture shows how ARROGANT, poor and lazy Americans are.....BLINDLY expecting others to help them make a decent living.

The HR depts of America's biggest employers (high tech mfg) are extremely frustrated. Eg: Siemen USA. THOUSANDS of jobs waiting for you Americans....and very few interviewees got those jobs. WHY???
The MAJORITY of interviewees only possessed qualifications in arty-farty Social Sciences......and NOT engineering, IT and other hi-tech disciplines.
Now, the Chinese and Indians abroad are coming IN to get those well-paying jobs.

That R&D is licensed to outside firms which use it to make products. The reason those grants have been cut is because industry has little need for research when we've entered a Depression. Jackasses such as you always have the same crap, so and so company needs people but can't find em, all as an excuse to increase H-1b/L-1 grants for foreigners. FU ahole.

1. I had my poor years back in the late 70's when my parents broke up. Food bank, reduced price lunches and I worked my Dad's garden due to a grim determination to grow something we could eat. I did pretty good with it.
It's made me paranoid about finances. It's the reason I chose a modest but nearly depression proof career, and buy an affordable condo and grimly paid it to zero rather than upgrading to a house. Now I'm debt free and live comfortably on 30% of my income.

2. These times are creating an entire generation who will know "the value of a dollar" and they'll make intelligent financial decisions (unlike their parents).
People might think I'm in a good financial position but I know I could get "downsized" as well, so I'm building up savings and maintaining a constant rotating food pantry that would last about 9 months before I was down to the rice and beans. People used to laugh & call me paranoid. That stopped laughing around 2008.

Actually, I think Innovation is gonna be what drives MORE unemployment, given how many computers are in the service sector. Walk into any hardware store, grocery store, or many convenience stores to see automated checkout counters that will only grow more prevalent as they seek to cut costs.
Look at how many people worked in factories today as opposed to 75-80 years ago, technology is replacing human labor at accelerating rates.
