Acually its an E minor with an added 7th sometimes. In which that minor third, the fifth, and the seventh of the root(E) form a G. In the origanal version Bruce would sometimes play an two E's with his left and a G major with his right creating an E minor 7th chord.
I love your version of this song. It's a nice refresher to see our young generation have an appreciation for Bruce Hornsby's music. Keep up the great playing!
Dude..anybody who has a problem with the way you played it should try and play that tune on their own. Nothing Bruce evr wrote is really too easy. Great job...I'm still workin on it. Billy and Elton are a lot easier.
cheers mate :) I wouldnt really call myself a pianist, I played synths for years but only played piano seriously for about 2 years since I started workin for Roland UK. Getting paid to practice is definatly the best way to learn!
as u know this world if filled with hecklers, my response is u did the song great justice, people dont listen to songs, in bruce hornsby version there is an electric sound being played by another pianist. jelousy is a huge factor in the world of music.
jonnyb, I appriciate the feedback, but I play things my way, not 'just the way it is.' ;) There is no way you can play something with no feeling if you play your own interpretation. Theres no way im going to give concert performance in the middle of a department store at work! The notes are not wrong, I learnt this piece from the music! They may sound wrong because I prefer to play this piece in a slightly different key.
You have all the notes wrong, but you're missing so much feeling when you play. You're just playing the notes, you gotta feel the music man. I can't explain it, but it sounds a little choppy, doesn't flow like Horsnby's version. Sorry man, but that's just the way it is
ahhh lol :) that makes sense now! I can now take on your critisism as constructive which is fine. I do understand what you mean, I stand by my point above but I dont take piano too seriously, its just part of my day job and a tool to compose for me, this track is just one I use to demo because parents know the original and their kids know Tu Pac's cover version ("Changes") - sell pianos all day with this!
You're very lucky - to use your job as a stage for both practice and performance - enjoy it. You never know when one of your customers will be the next Simon Cowell or Simon Fuller!! Ha ha! All the best.
i know what you mean... There is a store at the mall where I live that sells pianos, and everytime I walk past it I wish I could sit down and just TADA play this song and I KNOW people would be flocking from all over the mall to see it. That definately sells pianos! I have Bruce Hornsby's anthologies and I also have the sheet music to "Changes". Bruce Hornsby is my God.

there is only one way, practice! its just running up and down notes from the chord. practicing scales is important for such techniques
