As a kid I liked all four superman movies, but part 2 was always my fav. Superman 3 always had a weird or strange feeling to it to me but I still liked it. Superman 4 use to come on HBO when I was like 5 years old and nuclear man use to scare the shit out of me. I had no idea how many people hated superman 4 until i got older. Some people prefer 3 to 4 and vice versa. Some days I liked 3 better and somedays I liked 4 better. All four movies still hold a special place in my childhood memories.
Most critics called this SuperTurd 3, and then SuperTurd 4 came out. Then an attempt to bring back the feeling of the good movies Superman and Superman 2, we get SuperTurd Returns. Returns had great effects and made another attempt at showing Luthor trying to kill Superman with Kryptonite. In Turd 3, the script sucked so bad, they had to put Richard in it, just to keep the audience interested. They should flush all 3 turds down the toilet. 1 and 2 are the only ones worth being called Superman m
"Superman III" was the middle of the end for the franchise. The beginning was when the Salkinds fired Richard Donner and had Richard Lester take over the second film. Lester just didn't have the feel for the material that Donner did, and the franchise became a big-budget, live-action cartoon instead of the modern mythology it started out as.
@navylaks2 it certainly scared me as a kid and I don't even watch the movie these days, TBS showed Superman III & IV so much, I much prefer the 1st 2
Christopher Reeve himself said that Superman III was a farce and even Margot Kidder was disgusted and yes, Siskel & Ebert stated best, too many stunts and Siskel was right, Superman III was boring and I'll say it again, I & II were the best, IV was OK and III was the worst of it all, it was God Awful and Hats off to S&E for speaking the truth.
@TIPTON340 I agree with ya, Superman III was THE worst Superman Film EVER
Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder were disgusted with the film and Richard Pryor and Robert Vaughn alias The Man From U.N.C.L.E. were wasted in the film and I don't blame Gene Hackman for not wanting any part in this film, and thankfully, the Super Computer was destroyed, but still, it was God Awful and I blame Richard Lester for his poor lack of directing, but Superman IV made up for it when they had new producers.
@tnawcwvictoria Couldn't agree more, IV had the best of intentions and was a much more sincere project. III on the other hand, the more I watch it, the more of an insult to the viewers intelligence it becomes. The whole scene with Superman happily accepting a chunk of Kryptonite - major screenwriting error. As for the Ultimate Computer being constructed by the engineers from drawings on cigarette wrappers, no comment.
Siskel passed away in 1999, leaving Roger alone, who is now fighting health problems afflicting him. I hope he recovers and doesn't die as a result of complications from surgery like Siskel did.
Richard Pryor played basically a wuss in this movie...

Um less time should have been spent with Richard Pryor he's got no business in a Superman film.

Interesting that Superman 3 uses sound effects from Pac-Man for Atari 2600 (watch at 4:32-4:36).
And considering what many people thought of both Superman 3 and that version of Pac-Man, it's almost poetic.
