  • At first I did not like the way you butcherd that nice military Mosin. But now I must congratulate you on a job well done and a great looking rifle.

In Norway we do not see many Mosin Nagants at the range. I have never fired or held one.

Here we have the Mauser 98 and it is has the same price as the Mosin in the US.

  • Seems like this rifle likes the heavier bullets.

  • Very nice work. I am partial to the mosin nagants. I like your bolt cycling technique. My action is one of the longer ones so it is taking me some time to adjust.

  • Thumbs down for Mormon advert.

That is one sweet looking Mosin!

  • I have no problem with sporterizing your Mosin as long as it's not of any historical significance and is just a run of the mill Mosin (Ishvesk, rounded receiver, wartime production) like this one was. Great job!

  • AWESOME

  • CAN YOU PLEASE TELL ME where you got that rubber scope buffer/recoil pad thingy.. I NEED one for my Romak 3 PSL

  • @mattbaerg Try Brownell's and look for Soft-Eye. They have several sizes to fit various scopes.

  • I was just going though your videos and was reminded of old Fugly. What a drastic difference between this rifle and that one, but they are actually the same rifle. Maybe you should do a side by side sometime.

  • might have missed it but did you say what range?

  • @CPLBSS88 for the groups.

  • somehow i missed this what a nice job and she is a pretty rifle.

  • @iraqveteran8888 Hey Eric, great job. Loved the series from start to finish. Thank you for providing such step by step approach to this project. I really appreciated it.

Know how I can sporterize mine? Can I send it somewhere you might recommend? And how much?

  • @dminor214 Good man. Have fun. I have sporterized one of mine and left the other in the original state. Just cleaned it. 400 rounds of ammo for 80 bucks. Can't go wrong with that.

  • I watched the whole 13 part series and I am very happy with the info you have put together here! AWESOME!! THANKYOU!!

  • Precision rifle for the masses. 5/5

  • Very nice rifle. Hats off to ya Mr. Tight groups=dead deer.

  • Nicely done, gents! Proof positive of the old adage, "a bad day at the range is better than a good day at work." And a GOOD day at the range ... as shown here ... is pure heaven!

  • Wow that is a beauty.

  • shoot some empty shells!

  • BAD SHOT LOL

  • Whats your opinion on the brass stacker mount for mosins for a non modification alternative?

  • GREAT JOB....

  • why do you keep having to take the shell out with your hand and putting in in the box?

  • @182popeye i would guess he reloads ammo and dosent want to damage the brass

  • I went the ATI, NCstar route I get similiar groups at 100 yards. Have tried it out any further yet.

  • how much was that droping at 250 from the 100 yards you did

  • Chad doesn't flinch! ever O.O

  • Hey - Could you email me the parts list for this gun? Great Job! uphype007@gmail.com

  • Man that gun looks beautiful! I'm not really a huge fan of "sporterizing" old military firearms, but you did that Mosin justice! great job!

  • Great great GREAT job man it's beautiful and omg it's nice

  • Are you going to do some handloads for it at some point?

  • what diameter bullets do you use?

  • This is hands down the most attractive mosin i have ever seen. That rifle is sick!!!!!

  • THAT IS AWESOME

  • @Iraqveteran8888

(cont) It's nice to see someone putting some effort into one of these guns though. Too many idiots out there will talk about how crappy these rifles are in terms of accuracy when they don't even know the fundamentals of how accuracy works, much less the specific weave of a Mosin. Unfortunately it's just a victim of it's fast twist rifling overstabilizing the ridiculously light rounds, hence the new S98 having around a 1-12 1/2" ish for 152 grain 7n1/7n1a ammo.

  • @Iraqveteran8888

Have you handloaded any rounds for this rifle yet? If not I'd suggest trying to find the heaviest/longest slugs you can for the weave on these (unless it's Finnish). All but the Fin rifles tended to have a 1-9.25" bore give or take...the wartimes weren't very solid but honestly the biggest problem with Mosins isn't how they're made, it's bad ammo selection.

Also you said "I didn't think that cut off barrel would stabilize those 203's), it's the twist not the length that matters

  • thats a nice scope mount. any suggestions where to get one like that?

  • @almazplusmaria Call Ken over at Rock Solid Industries. Best scope mount for the Mosin....period.

  • @Iraqveteran8888 will the mount work for a non sporterized Mosin nagant?

  • @Iraqveteran8888 you ever tried any of Jmeck's scope mounts?

  • @Iraqveteran8888 only thing better is the original scope mount but those are rare and pricey

  • @nameloc1000 Seriously, I was gongi to buy one off this man in Missouri and he was asking like 600 dollars for it. I almost had a heart attack.

  • Great looking rifle! I have been looking to buy a Mosin and hunt with it, but yours is freaking sick! I don't blame you for wanting to sporterize it either, because ballistically the cartridge is pretty darn versatile and can down any game, shy of grizzly, in North America. In short, I want one! ;)

  • Probably the first sporterised 91/30 I've seen that doesn't make my blood boil - not only that but it looks pretty sharp, too. Nicely done, and I'm glad there are still people out there who can do these things properly.

  • This is the only sporterized Mosin Nagant I've ever liked. Good job on that one.

  • what did u do to the trigger i know the mosin nagant has a long trigger pull

  • @shawnmohr1989

I could be wrong but from the trigger pull and the way it reacted I'd venture to say it's probably the stock trigger assembly. You can file them down to reduce the weight at a cost of reliability...but honestly all it takes is some skill to work the triggers. So long as they're not grainy or too loose all you have to do is squeeze it slow...which can be rough on people use to super light, refined competition type setups.

  • Cool...now you need to do a K31!

  • Should get a butt pad but yeah its an awesome rifle..

  • This is beautifuly done, a job well done sir. Very tasteful stock.

  • pretty rifle

  • That is the most elegant conversion I've ever seen, wish I had the skills to do that to mine. :)

  • just ask for more ideas

  • but the bullets cost 2$ pr. shoot

  • @mrmartinamartin lolno you can get surplus ammo very cheap

  • and make a K98K its not better but its easy to handle

  • if you are holding like that you will miss more i tried and im a kid and i hits the middle

  • i would sugest putting a nice muzzle brake on it

  • If you want to save every mosin I recommend you buy them all up and put them in your mom’s garage. These rifles are cheap and so is the ammo. I credit Eric with a job well done, he built himself something that he can be proud of and that he can a forward to shoot.

  • Wouldnt cutting the barrel make it less accurate?

  • damn that thing is nice, makes me want to go buy a round receiver nagant and modify it since i couldnt ever bring myself to sporterize my 1932 hex receiver, the star with a arrow in it is the Molot factory mark isnt it?

  • Niccee build. Have you worked up hand loads yet? I'm getting ready to start loading mine, just tryin to get some ideas of what other people use when loading 54r's..

  • Does the barrel heating up effect trajectory? Should I expect the rifle to shoot in the same group despite the increase in temp from firing?

  • is that a finished product? because i would love to own one for hunting season

  • @MrUSA96 This is the finished product....yes.

  • Thanks, enjoyed the video's a lot!

I also own a Mosin like the one you started with. Izhesvsk 1943, arsenal refurbished and like new barrel. Not special and not a sniper. It's a tru pleasure to shoot and with the Russian steel core surplus (allowed in Europe) i'm really amazed about accuracy. I can't tell the moa ( i never shoot benchrested) but at 100m the Mosin shoots pretty close to my target rifle's :-)

  • Looks so much like the Toz-78-05 varmint (winchester wildcat) in .22lr those things can get MOA at 100 yards

  • scope?

  • @ccsniper It's a Weaver K4 fixed 4 power with a 3 post german reticle.

  • that russian chik up top is fine.

  • Still don't understand why you'd sporterize a piece of history. I mean, I'm sure it's technically an awesome weapon you've got there, but......c'mon man: you're destroying a piece of history, even if they did make 17 million of them.

  • The irony here is that from the factory when these rifles were built it was required that they shoot at minimum one minute of angle or be rejected. This gun has had a ton of money and time put into it and still can't achieve that accuracy.

I'm guessing with handloads it would achieve that accuracy but still it seems like a bit of a waste of resources. However if it's fun to tinker with then it's no waste at all : )

    Neat project!

  • @j45acp69 Show me a stock Mosin that will shoot 1 MOA with factory loads and irons sights that isn't a sniper rifle.

  • @elucero1775 oh spare me, these guns are a dime a dozen

  • @DaytonaRoadster I cursed you out twice and then removed the comments because I recognize that I have trouble with my impulse control, particularly when I am drinking. I read your profile and believe that you are a rational person. Anyways, it is obvious that we have differing opinions on the the value of historical firearms. I believe that a military C&R firearm has value that is independent of it's financial worth. It appears that you do not believe the same, so I will agree to disagree.

  • such a nice rifle. if i wasnt a broke college student paying off loans id have you build me one eric.

  • @dminor214 haha you don't need all this shit to make it accurate just get a hex receiver those are sub moa already

  • @dminor214 The good thing about the Mosin is that even broke college students can afford one and customize it for under $200. Check out your local gun show.

  • @cavtroopermunoz ive bought two since i left that comment. lol. havent done anything to them except for stripping them down and got all the cosmoline off.

  • @dminor214 go to mosinpros . com you can save up for the monte carlo stock with cheap scope for a reasonable price.

  • the chad

  • 3:04, damn. i wish i could reload my mosin that quick.

  • Love the look. Great job

  • What weight bullet have You found to shoot the best for the mosin nagant? About to do some hand loads for this and trying to decide what grain bullets to use

  • Do you know that some guy is trying to sell his 10rd magazine design (his vid is on youtube)? Perhaps soon we'll see the magazines for sale.

  • @MavHunter20XX Yeah....I don't know about that. I'd have to check one out.

  • Nice looking mosin. I don't really dig what you did to the receiver, but that's me. The whole unit looks awesome though.

  • Why catch the cases?

  • @Silenthen1 Looks badass...

  • @Silenthen1 and for reloading

  • Is the long bolt handle there to improve leverage on the cock-on-opening bolt? It kinda' sticks way out there . . .

  • @VirgilHawkins1 It helps a lot, yes. Yesy it's a little long, but it you can cycle it fast as hell.

  • I would like to see this compete with a stock MN just to get an idea of the improvement.

  • @DobermansRock Might be able to accomplish that. I also think it's funny how you see all kinds of people talking smack about fugly, but then when I take my time and put together a rifle that performs well and has the looks to match, they are nowhere to be found. lol

  • @Iraqveteran8888 We deal with a lot of ignorant people these days. You did a great job on a old rifle. Soldiers issued the original would love have what you made. I have a 1903 sporterized by Golden Arms Santa Fe division. It was my first rifle and I will never part with it. Keep up the good work fellow combat vet.

  • @Iraqveteran8888 dont let em put ya down fugly is beautiful

  • I must say that mosin is pretty slick ..

  • Nice work man!

  • Wow. Great job on that weapon. About to cut mine down. Do you think cutting down to 17" to 20" would affect the accuracy? Thanks.

  • Dang! You did a real bang up job on that weapon! Looks great!

  • I just watched your complete series on this rifle. And, I am impressed!

    Awesome! Keep it up!

    Thank you.

  • awesome white jeans chad

  • It looks like it kicks more then its original stock, is this because the new stock and configuration is lighter?

  • @skindresser Seems true enough. I leave my bore slightly fouled and they shoot to POA on a cold bore shot no problem.

  • When is this one going to shoot the 1000 yards?

  • @TomBuhls The longest range I have access to on a regular basis is about 350 yards. There is a 700 yards range near my house but I never have time to go there. We are planning on taking a trip out there and doing some long range work a few of these guns, but it's a matter of making the time to do it.

  • mate where can i buy the stock you have used ?

    thanks ian

  • @thefitterau They are available from Boyds.

  • Excellent!!!

  • Well that was worth all the work and waiting Beautiful job It looks great and shoots better Tack driver !

  • Great rifle and great work. Now I gotta stop slobbering on the laptop! LOL! One question though, what is the scope you have mounted?

  • @psyk013 It's a Weaver K4 with a German-post reticle.

  • @Iraqveteran8888 Alright Thank you. It is a sharp looking scope on the rifles new setup.

  • Totally impressed with this build. Your really took the Mosin to an extreme but classy area with that build.

  • Awesome job. Great to see it finally done, you guys didn't disappoint. Chad looks like he just came from church lol.

  • @RochesterSportRifles You are correct! He did.

  • Very Impressive.

  • Great Job on the rifle. The only thing left to do now is weld a ring on the cocking piece in order to make the safety easier to use. That is a rifle any hunter would be proud to use. Cheers

  • Nice Rifle!

  • That was friggin awesome

  • Very nice result. That's a good lookin' good shootin' rifle there.

  • Very nice.... I didn't think it was going to shoot that good. Looking forward to seeing what handloads will do!

  • @Navyguy0023 Working on that right now. Want to try some top shelf components and see what this gun will really do.

  • Osama's been dead for ten fucking years. This is all just propaganda, prepare a political slight of hand.

  • @gunfan50bmg You serious?

  • @ACEGAMER120

Yes, I am. That fucker has been on Dialysis in the DESERT for like 30 fucking years, and has been on his death bed for a supposed decade. He's been dead for a LOOONG time, they just never would admit that they failed at catching him before Nature did.

  • Sorry meant to sak ak* not 1k (to happy to type)

  • Great job Eric!

  • Eric I thought you told me you were in favor of preserving military firearms?

oh well. You did a good job though. Very impressive.

  • @majorporpoise I own 30 pristine mil-surps for every one sporter I have. When I do a Sporter, I do it right. With that being said...I bet I own more Mosin Nagants than the average American gun owner has guns in total.

Does that answer your question? lol

  • @Iraqveteran8888 ...yes, very much!

  • Very cool tool!!! Nice job you guys, love the vid. Thanks

  • buenos disparos amigo.

  • Wow you all did a great job on this it is a tack driver for sure. Looking forward to the next thing you and Ray will do. Keep up the great work!

  • wow great job on that weapon wanna sell it?

  • @jeff420swinger You want to pay me for 15 hours of labor at 45 dollars an hour and $450 worth of parts?

  • @Iraqveteran8888 what if you didnt want it to be so intensive?

  • @MrMeatSlinger I understand where you are coming from....but that's not how I do things. It's all or nothing. If I am going to put my name on it, I want it to be good.

  • Sporterized Mosin = Great elk rifle.

    I want one!

  • how much did u cut off of it again?

  • I hope my rifle project comes out half this good! excellent job to you and Ray! good shooting bu the way!

  • not to bee a smart ass but your follow througe after the shoots are a bitt short...

  • what is the metal bracelet you are wearing?

  • got to love these old rifles, Just cant beat it, and with a little work can shoot with the best of them.

  • I priced the Lothar Walthar BBL, they sent me a email back saying it would be 455 plus 20% if i wanted contours on the outer BBL.

  • @buryourdead21 Hmm that's odd....There website lists a 7.62x54r 24" barrel with a .311 diameter bore for $205. I am assuming it would need finish chambering and an extractor cut made.

  • @Iraqveteran8888 I couldn't find there BBL on the list(probably wasn't looking good enough) so I sent them an email, they got back to me in a day with that information. Ill have to look again.

  • What was your final barrel length? And at that range how are your other 91/30 rifles in comparison? Looks nice though. I like how the stock turned out.

  • @brown55061 None of my M91/30s will shoot this good in a million years, my Finn M39 on the other hand does exceptionally well and it is not difficult to peg these steel gongs at 250 yards with relative ease.

  • @Iraqveteran8888 Yeah, we Finns are like that

  • So what was that green thing that was jumping around?

  • @VHSBD Just an old anti-freeze jug that was full of water.

  • great job lads it looks great and shoots even better. big thumbs up

  • So is it still chambered in 7.62x54r?

  • @TheAk47Enthusiast Yes and still has the original factory barrel from WW2.

  • Didnt you mention reboring it to chamber .308 or is that just my imagination.

  • @TheAk47Enthusiast No...There's a lot more involved than that.

  • Safe to say you need a deer kill with this guy.

  • Love it

  • That turned out great man! Makes me want to go get an old Mosin and sporterize it ! That thing would definately be good for deer huh?

  • @Georgiapine2A I might have to get a deer kill on tape this year with this rifle... :)

  • @Iraqveteran8888 you got that right just get rid of the word might

  • excellent vid, got some good groups out of that thing, good to see after the work you put in

  • Beautiful finished project, you are one of the guys on yt that I have a lot of respect for. Great job.

  • Some very sad and jealous person disliked this video...I had to like it to offset :)

  • Nice job with the rifle. If I understand right it is not the standard trigger, and that was my biggest gripe about the Mosin, other than that I like the rifle. This sporterized rifle here looks great, and seems to shoot quite well too, kinda makes ya' give some respect to the Soviet snipers doing what they did with what they had.
