If you watch the Dempsey kick it was placed about a foot from 63 yards. Not sure how close Elams kick was from the line that made it 63.

Yeah he kicked it from 6 yards back of the bronco 47. It has kicked 6 yards behind. So with some easy math that is 63. Not to mention that it was kicked from a much higher altitude than Tom Dempsey's kick. Still a good kick though, looks like he would have easily made a 68 yard attempt.

You're probably used to adding 17 yards from the line of scrimmage to figure out how far it will be. Well look at it this way - the line of scrimmage is at the 46 yard line of Jacksonville (and NOT the 47 yard line of the Broncos). Well, adding 17 yards to 46? That's 63 yards.
