t is widely believed that the FM Towns Marty 2 would feature similar improvements to the FM Towns 2, which had a faster CPU than the first, but this is not the case. It has also been speculated that the Marty 2 featured a 486 CPU, however this was also discovered to be false.
Nice video. Do you know any where I could pick one of these, up. I already have a Neo Geo AES, would it be worth it to pick this system up two. Nice to see it runs off of a AMD CPU, big AMD fan.
I actually own an FM Towns Marty 2, it's one of my favorite systems ever and has some really good arcade ports like Splatterhouse and Truxton 2. It's a shame it didn't really take off though, I heard it was because there was very little advertising and the price was way too high (700$ or something in 1991). Nevertheless, I love this thing!
Apparently in Japan they ae considered garbage pretty much. They only cost $25-$50 on Yahoo Japan, unfortunatly they only deal with people in their own country. However I must say that the Splatterhouse port for the FM Towns is pretty much perfect, other than the screen resolution, something wierd happened with that.
Ok I'm surprised that no one has said this so I'm just going. You are a game collector, who is obviously quite into his hobby, since you are a North American who owns an FM Towns Marty, and yet you don't know that 386 is pronounced "Three Eighty Six", not as you said it. 386 is the line of CPUs, the 4th iteration of the intel x86 line. It's not a measure of processing power, rather an indicator of the instruction set of the chip. Processing power is measured in MHz or (inaccurately) in MIPS.
The Marty came out in 1993, not 1991. US site have been getting this wrong for years; English Wikipedia was only recently corrected, when the correct date on the Japanese site was noticed.
The FM Towns Marty 1 and 2 are actually both the same inside (both 386), it's just a color change. This is another thing English sites have been getting wrong for years, and some still haven't figured out.
That's a great suggestion. I'll be sure to do that soon. It's actually really easy. There are no converters needed, the Japanese systems play on all US TV's. The only thing you'll need to do is change it to a different channel... in the 100's I believe. Thanks for the sub. =)
@Gamester81 Actually, I've heard you had to go in the mid 90s to play Japanese systems on American (and Canadian) TVs. Still, that's pretty damn high!
wow! I just read that VIEWPOINT is one of the games available for the towns marty. I would love to see it on something other than neo-geo hardware someday!
LOL, I've got the controller but not the mouse, gotta love that. Wish I also had the mouse. The games for me are pretty hard to come by but the ones I do have for it are pretty cool. It'a a sharp system.
I hate these videos were he just goes on about the history with all the wikipedia facts.
i just wanna know what the system does and looks like.

You should do a video explaining playing Japanese systems in America like what you need or don't need.

what about voltage?
zeldajunkielol2 2 years ago
That's the nice thing; that the voltage will work without a converter.

AFAIK, this was released on February 1993, but I guess that still counts as "early 90s".
