The big 3 all make a great muscle car these days. 400+ hp, reliable, big brakes, 6 speeds & all the comforts of home. I 've driven the Challenger SRT-8 & it's a really comfortable car. It loves the highway. The pistol grip 6 speed put a smile on my face. I own a '05 GTO, love it to death, but if I had to buy a new car, the Challenger would be high on my list. It looks great in Plum Crazy Purple W/ White stripes.
The hole Dodge lineup could stand to lose a little weight. The challenger would be amazing if they didn't insist on their heavy retro design, they are pretty though...

And the challengers are really picky when it comes to launching them if you don't get just right rpm they come off the line like a granny car. But when I get that perfect launch HOLY SHIT. Good race even though the Chally was sleepin. A SRT driver should see 13.20's out of a stock one. A good 6.0 GTO with a good driver can see high 12's. Im a mopar guy but the GTO's are faster stock for stock than the SRT's. But thats due to the 4200lbs the SRT carries.

Well the fact that it comes in a vehicle that weighs 4100lbs curb weight(chally,charger) and competes with cars smaller and lighter, which it wasn't designed to run with in the first place, is actually slow. Actually, thats impressive! I have seen srt's run 12.90's stock in the conditions and with a good driver. Not bad for a a 4000lber and a 3.06 rear!
the guy in the Mopar apparently doesn't know how to drag race. The goat had him by almost a full second right off the lights. put a decent driver in the challenger and i think the outcome might be a bit different. that being said, i'm a mopar guy myself but do like a poncho as well. what do the gto's have under the hood? do they even make them anymore?

@juiceInTheDurango It was before the ported throttle body and cold air intake which didn't make much of a difference if any. I was on genuine street tires lol, you can see the wheels my drag radials are mounted on in the 11.88 video or any of my more recent videos.
ive smoked srt8 chargers and challengers in my stock 05 gto. i havent had my gto that long and i still smoked them, so those other gto's you've seen the drivers must've been god awful at driving to get smoked. both cars are fast, and the srt's will only win if the gto driver is horrible or scared.

One may have more Hp and shittier braking an the others have better brakes but wider gear ratios , one may have cup holders and no AC, and the others have AC and no heaters. Camaros have outsold Mustangs for the 1st time in 26 years. Which is a surprise, I think the Mustangs are better looking and performing but i don't like Fords too much. I hate the Camaros wheel wells, I like the 1st gen's box style much better

The gto does not and should not look anything similar to old school. The only thing American about it is the drivetrain. The Monaro is truly an awesome car, all comparisons aside.
Stock GTO's run low 13's with a good driver and good weather conditions. Headers, exhaust and K&N and your in the high 12's. They are fast cars as well as the Challenger but its not taking the Goat in this run or any stock for stock.

Everyone keeps talking about the Challenger being very heavy? I have an 05 GTO with a 6 speed and the sticker on the door says dry weight is 4030lbs. How much does the challenger weigh. Stock the Challanger is 25 more hp and I think it's .6 seconds slower 0-60.
@zzzvinny Lol where did you get this "dry weight" shit from? The GTO curbs at 3725. 4030lb is probably the gross vehicle weight, which is the car with passengers and cargo, but I think its more then 4030 with passengers and cargo. The Challenger I believe curbs at 4140lbs.
@Ensilvanation That was kind of meant as a question. Yes by dry weight I meant gross vehicle weight. I had no Idea what my car weighs. According to motortrend the 2008 RT8 curb weight is 4150. So at 425lbs heavier and only 25 more hp the challenger is pretty impressive.
challenger still owns that gto is heavily moded.. btw challenger aint a tuner its a 4,000 pound reall muscle car unlike the mustang n camero :) the challenger also actually looks like its 70 model too so thats why dodge didnt make this much a of kids race with light wanna be muscle cars

Just so you know, a 1969 Mustang Mach 1 fastback only weighs 3,175 pounds. I dont know about you but i consider this car to be a muscle car, and it weighs considerably less than the 2011 5.0 Mustang.

@bismillahmashallah ahh, that gto isnt heavily modified, mine which is an 05 ls2 with an automatic and i run consistant 13.30's with just exhaust and intake with Falken ziex street tires. BTW the goat weighs 3700lbs so we are not talking about a huge weight difference, also the SRT-8 has a 6.1L 425 HP v8 from the factory. I am not by any means saying that the challenger is slow but the gto from the factory isnt a car to be underestimated by any means.
@bismillahmashallah the mustang, challenger and camaro are pony cars, not your normal muscle cars. they are smaller. they aren't suppost to be as heavy as a muscle car. I admit the challenger looks the best outta the 3 but i drove all of them and i think the mustang is the most exciting and fun car to drive and stamp on the gas, it gives you the most thril specially the 05+. dodge messed up making the challenger over 4000 pounds and so did chevy with the camaro.
So it weighing 4,100 pounds makes it a real muscle car, a 70's R/T was lighter and was actually FAST compared to the cars it competed against all the new challengers are is a overweight overpriced slower misinterpretation of the car it looks like, The new 5.0 GT blows the heavy doors off the R/T and SRT8 for around the price of a V6 S/E Challenger, The challenger looks good but for the money its not worth the performance of a cargo van.
@FBPCL If you ever get a chance to drive a Hemi Challenger (new or old) you would think differently. The new SRT8 is faster than the 1970 426 Hemi Challenger/Cuda. I've driven both. I paid less for my new SRT8 than a lesser equiped 11 GT.
My 1st run down the 1/4 in my SRT8 was 13.1@106 but my quickest all stock run was 12.8@107.5. I've also driven the 11 GT & 11 Camaro SS. The 11 GT manual w/3.73 is the quickest but not by much.
There's alot of bad driver's making fast cars look slow.
I have driven a SRT8 Challenger and it didn't impress me,and i have a hard time believing a 12.8 1/4 run 100%bone stock after being told that by countless SRT owners conveniently after the new 5.0 is running 12's
@FBPCL I 've owed 38 cars & my SRT8 is my 1st MOPAR. I drove the 11 GT manual & auto, 11 SS auto & 10 SRT8 auto all in the same day. The GT manual was the fastest & most fun to drive hard & they let me run it hard thru the curves. The SS & SRT8 were better street drivers & just a little slower than manual GT but felt faster than the auto GT.
The auto SRT8s are .3-.6 sec quicker than the manual SRT8s from what I've seen. 12.8-13.2 is the typical range for stock auto SRT8s.

Now I do believe they lied about that 450 HP yenko probably 550!

@GTO19020 I've got a 2009 Challenger R/T with an Arrington 360 short block that eats GTO's alive and it was a helluva lot less than 45K. The Magnuson blower should be in by November. I considered buying a GTO, but I think Pontiac blew it with that body style and it just didn't appeal to me. I appreciate a car that looks good and performs. Now, if GM could get a GTO built that had a throwback inspired body with the motor to match, I might fill a spot in my garage with one.

ive smoked srt8 chargers and challengers in my stock 05 gto. i havent had my gto that long and i still smoked them, so those other gto's you've seen the drivers must've been god awful at driving to get smoked. both cars are fast, and the srt's will only win if the gto driver is horrible or scared.

One may have more Hp and shittier braking an the others have better brakes but wider gear ratios , one may have cup holders and no AC, and the others have AC and no heaters. Camaros have outsold Mustangs for the 1st time in 26 years. Which is a surprise, I think the Mustangs are better looking and performing but i don't like Fords too much. I hate the Camaros wheel wells, I like the 1st gen's box style much better

It is at a serious disadvantage compared to theCamaros, GTOS, and Shelby's.I hope hat the new 392, 6.4 litre is gnna compensate for that weight unless Chrysler drops 3-400 lbs. Isn't it ironic that a sheet metal E Body can weigh less than a new fiberglass body ? And w/ a 7.2 litre Big Block ? I think the 70-74 weighed around 37-3800 lbs.

Stock GTO's run low 13's with a good driver and good weather conditions. Headers, exhaust and K&N and your in the high 12's. They are fast cars as well as the Challenger but its not taking the Goat in this run or any stock for stock.

Everyone keeps talking about the Challenger being very heavy? I have an 05 GTO with a 6 speed and the sticker on the door says dry weight is 4030lbs. How much does the challenger weigh. Stock the Challanger is 25 more hp and I think it's .6 seconds slower 0-60.

@zzzvinny Lol where did you get this "dry weight" shit from? The GTO curbs at 3725. 4030lb is probably the gross vehicle weight, which is the car with passengers and cargo, but I think its more then 4030 with passengers and cargo. The Challenger I believe curbs at 4140lbs.

@Ensilvanation That was kind of meant as a question. Yes by dry weight I meant gross vehicle weight. I had no Idea what my car weighs. According to motortrend the 2008 RT8 curb weight is 4150. So at 425lbs heavier and only 25 more hp the challenger is pretty impressive.

@bismillahmashallah those 6.0s will run that all day stock. if you put a good pair of rubber on the rear, those cars can hit high 12s with an experienced driver. not 17 year old ricky bobby wannabes. i have seen a bone stock gto 6.0 run a 13.05 @ 105mph against a cams/heads/exhaust/predator tune/ 6.0 gto than ran a 13.20. the kid thought it was cool to roast tires down the track. he layed into the throttle too early and stayed in it, smoking tires all the way down the 1/8th

@bismillahmashallah ahh, that gto isnt heavily modified, mine which is an 05 ls2 with an automatic and i run consistant 13.30's with just exhaust and intake with Falken ziex street tires. BTW the goat weighs 3700lbs so we are not talking about a huge weight difference, also the SRT-8 has a 6.1L 425 HP v8 from the factory. I am not by any means saying that the challenger is slow but the gto from the factory isnt a car to be underestimated by any means.

@bismillahmashallah the mustang, challenger and camaro are pony cars, not your normal muscle cars. they are smaller. they aren't suppost to be as heavy as a muscle car. I admit the challenger looks the best outta the 3 but i drove all of them and i think the mustang is the most exciting and fun car to drive and stamp on the gas, it gives you the most thril specially the 05+. dodge messed up making the challenger over 4000 pounds and so did chevy with the camaro.

@FBPCL If you ever get a chance to drive a Hemi Challenger (new or old) you would think differently. The new SRT8 is faster than the 1970 426 Hemi Challenger/Cuda. I've driven both. I paid less for my new SRT8 than a lesser equiped 11 GT.
My 1st run down the 1/4 in my SRT8 was 13.1@106 but my quickest all stock run was 12.8@107.5. I've also driven the 11 GT & 11 Camaro SS. The 11 GT manual w/3.73 is the quickest but not by much.
There's alot of bad driver's making fast cars look slow.

@FBPCL I 've owed 38 cars & my SRT8 is my 1st MOPAR. I drove the 11 GT manual & auto, 11 SS auto & 10 SRT8 auto all in the same day. The GT manual was the fastest & most fun to drive hard & they let me run it hard thru the curves. The SS & SRT8 were better street drivers & just a little slower than manual GT but felt faster than the auto GT.
The auto SRT8s are .3-.6 sec quicker than the manual SRT8s from what I've seen. 12.8-13.2 is the typical range for stock auto SRT8s.

Nothing you say makes any sense. The GTO is half a second faster bone stock. If it were heavily modded, it wouldn't have been a race. And 4,000 lbs doesn't make the Challenger a real muscle car. It makes it HEAVY. Old grandpa Sedans from the 1960's were also 4,000 lbs. Does that mean they were "real" sedans? The Corvette weighs 3,300 lbs. That fake too? And the new Mustangs and Camaros look VERY retro. That's why they're hot sellers. I don't understand anything you say?

The Challenger has not got a fair shake since it's return, Everytime you see a magazine cover you see the Challenger R/T vs The Mustang gt 500 vs The Camaro SS. But they never try to do a comparable battle with this car!! Also Mopars make more horsepower per cubic inch than all the competition. J/K numbers are decieving back in 69 the yenko Camaro WAS considered stock and ran 11's BUT the HP numbers were 450 which the challanger today has 425? back in the day cars liek that didn't get weighed down! 4000+ lbs and I have seen specs on that challanger saying it was 4500 lbs pickup weighs that. Now I do believe they lied about that 450 HP yenko probably 550!

Did anyone else hear the GTO driver scream out "Wake the fuck up!" to the Challenger driver?

It dosent matter how fast your Grand prix looking GTO went . It holds nothing over the challenger or any of the challenger heritage . GTO's used to be cool and muscle looking now they look about as tough as a late 90s grand am or grand prix . Putting that v8 powerplant and that stupid looking of a car should be a crime .

@GTO19020 I've got a 2009 Challenger R/T with an Arrington 360 short block that eats GTO's alive and it was a helluva lot less than 45K. The Magnuson blower should be in by November. I considered buying a GTO, but I think Pontiac blew it with that body style and it just didn't appeal to me. I appreciate a car that looks good and performs. Now, if GM could get a GTO built that had a throwback inspired body with the motor to match, I might fill a spot in my garage with one.

man for the shitty start that challenger had to lose by only .38 seconds wow. im a mopar guy and gto's are cool by me but that one was almost a lost for the gto. hats off to the gto man. you beat him.

the 0 to 60 in the RT challenger is the same as an 04 gto. about even in the quarter too. its just a heavy ass car.
