@jlocorriere05 Totally agree..great time to be a teenager, this song came on at the clubs and no-one sat down, great song, great vocals and great times!
@jimshopp yes we were so very lucky to be born at hat special time,he was so so underated,a magic voice and so powerful and soulfull, nice comment mate.
Superb vocal performance by Mr Farlowe, without a shadow of a doubt.
I do not mean to appear churlish; however i do have one (very minor) criticism of his performance ...... he mispronounced the word 'obsolete'!! There is no such word as 'absolete', Chris.
Nevertheless, a fabulous performance. This superb single is rightly remembered as one of the classic singles of the 1960's. What is more, it evokes memories of England's glorious victory against West Germany in the 1966 World Cup final.
However, one cannot help but notice that - in comparison to the [1966] footage of Chris Farlowe & The T-Birds performing their classic hit, "Out Of Time" - the episodes of 'TOTP' from the mid-1970's look pretty modern and up-to-date ! I guess that even a relatively short period of time - like 2 years - is a LONG time in the ever changing world of pop music and image. That being the case, 10 years - just one decade - is an inordinately long period, when viewed in this context.
What a difference a decade makes! I have been watching the weekly repeats of 'Top Of The Pops' (the BBC 1 TV music show) which were originally broadcast in the year 1976 - i.e. ten years after Chris Farlowe's "Out Of Time" topped the UK charts.
The archive footage from those 70's episodes of 'TOTP' does look a little bit dated now - hardly surprising, given that 35 years (more than one third of a century) have gone by since the footage was recorded.
When this fabulous track was at number one in the charts - in the July of 1966 - I was only 17 months old, or thereabouts; therefore, I cannot remember the time when it was a current chart hit.
While I was watching this archive footage from 45 summers ago, it occurred to me that it now looks very dated indeed; out of time, one might say (if you will excuse that somewhat corny 'play on words'.)
Unless I am very much mistaken, this classic track by Mr Christopher Farlowe & The Thunderbirds was @ number one in the UK charts on Saturday. 30th July, 1966 - the day that England won the World Cup.
I guess that this song will forever be associated with the summer of 'nineteen-clickety-click' ...... and with England's glorious triumph at Wembley Stadium over the Krauts (sorry; I mean West Germany).
Saw Chris Farlowe singing this in Derby in the 60's, went to see him in Oxford in May this year and he still has a fantastic voice and still belting out this great song.
30th July 1966. Chris Farlowe is Britains No 1.... England are the Worlds No 1 (England 4 - 2 West Germany after extra time). Lets do it again some time!!

@eirbiz Blimey ...... you are never going to win any awards for Political Correctness, mate! I think i can say that with a fair degree of certainty. I am no great fan of Political Correctness myself, as it happens ...... but even I would think twice before making a comment as chauvinistic and derogatory to the female gender as that !!
Believe me, a lot of birds who read that comment will definately NOT see the funny side of it - in fact, they will be incandescent with rage !!!
What a great classic song, this is one that has stuck with me from childhood hearing my parents play it, I am 30, but this song will out live me and still sound great!!
If you ever get the chance watch him live, never mind the video, still performing at 70 and sounds fantastic : ) Twisted Wheel Manchester Sunday 17th July 2011 : )
was this Ready Steady Go or Top of the Pops? love Farlowe's version. I remember hearing back in the day that this was written for him....................True? (yeah by Jagger & Richards)
The first version of this song I remember was the Garanimals project Allan Kline cobbled together with the backing tracks from this and Mick Jagger's vocals. It was in the opening scene from "Coming Home" and on the Metamophisis album, reaching #45 UK #81 on Billboard. Hard to make a bad version of a song like this!
He's doing a tour of village centres across the North of England. I know this because he's gonna mash up Farnsfield, Notts, my mum and dad live there.
To all you Chris Farlowe fans out there, make sure you search the internet for - chrisfarlowethefilm - (all one word)
A documentary is currently in production about the man himself. We've recently uploaded a special Christmas treat, an exclusive live video of Chris sing "All or Nothing" at the world famous 100 Club in honour of Steve Marriott. Check it out.
Chris's lip-synching is very good actuallly. He's a great singer, one of the best. His performance on Collosseum live makes it one of the best live albums in rock historyEVER (that & 801 live , the Eno-Manzanera shtick)
Chris must have performed (lip-synced) this one on the same episode of "Beat Club" that The Monks appeared on doing "Complication" because I see the same people in the audience. Either that or it's spliced in. At first, I thought this version sucked but Chris gets it going towards the end.
Saw Chris last night with the Norman Beaker band great show, good sense of humour, mainly a Blues set, few old classics and "All or nothing" dedicated to the great Steve Marriott.

Wonder if Chris knows that this all time classic is being played all over again, on the Stoke-on-Trent soul scene nowadays. Also along with Spencer Davis and Gimme some lovin. Steve.
Andrew Oldham giving after "The Last Time" instrumental, the tubular bells again a good workout here, which would be sampled 40 years later for The Verve.
I AGREE WITH YOU THE ONLY AND BEST VERSION EVER BY CHRIS FARLOW, SIMILAR TO JOE COCKER SINGING A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIEND WHICH WAS THE BEST EVER VERSION.
His voice is every bit as soulful as Steve Winwood was with The Spencer Davis Group. And thats saying something.

Wonder if Chris knows that this all time classic is being played all over again, on the Stoke-on-Trent soul scene nowadays. Also along with Spencer Davis and Gimme some lovin. Steve.
