I was going to respond to those complaining about the fact that only the US is represented in this clip, then I scrolled down and noticed how many people were mad about the a. length of the clip b. that the clip had been done "better" by someone else and b. that the anchor appeared to be reading.
Instead of responding to any of the comments, I'm just going to commend the team for producing the clip. You guys do a great, concise, clear job. Keep doing it, grow when/where you can & ignore idiots.
I find it very interesting the way Google can Screw up the results. If we all remember, Google ran last week a small tag on the home page right below the search button celebrating the 90th anniversary for women's right to vote. When someone clicked on that tag it would actually bring up a Google search page with the search term "19th amendment". Obviously the reason this term was the 3rd hottest term of the week is not what people actually typed ; It's from clicking that tag.
The premise of giving people the skinny on current events and what people are talking about has already been done in a more personal manner on websites like DinnerTopics and other places. Google Beat is ok, but I prefer the individual sites that do the manual work for you.
Well since you guys seem more interested with starting inane channels instead of fixing problems I may as well ask if you are planning to have a "googlebeat uk" channel?
So cool, maybe next we can get a Google customer service channel since getting a reply on antiquated forums is next to impossible. Oh wait, there is no Google customer service program. My bad, carry on with fluff.

Short and sweet - more interesting than journalistic opinion pushing the news.

Official Google blog title "Find out what's hot on search with the Google Beat" should be "Find out who's hot" :) = Anne

This is immensely pointless to me unless it encompasses global searches. AMERICA ISN'T THE ONLY PLACE THE IN WORLD.

Great. Just waiting for the option to download a videocast version of the trends, that would be very cool.

Cool! I hope this is going to be as good as Yahoo!'s "The 9". I loved watching the 9.

Nice production value, too much unnecessary hand-gesturing. Head & shoulders shot much more flattering.
