He got surrounded but if he had broken out he should have done it then. Later it was folly because soldiers where starved, frozen (summer clothing! at -50 C degrees. A march across a couple of miles of steppes was certain death). So Paulus wasnt a coward, at that stage he could just not save his men. Not even the panzers they only could go a couple of miles and not nearly enough to close the distance between the releave force and them.

He got surrounded but if he had broken out he should have done it then. Later it was folly because soldiers where starved, frozen (summer clothing! at -50 C degrees. A march across a couple of miles of steppes was certain death). So Paulus wasnt a coward, at that stage he could just not save his men. Not even the panzers they only could go a couple of miles and not nearly enough to close the distance between the releave force and them.

@waferthin99 well its certainly tru that many ordinary german soldiers werent Nazis nevertheless they fought and died 4 the nazi cause and all swore allegiance 2 hitler. There were many other ordinary germans who fled germany others were imprisoned in the camps 4 defying the nazi party.
