I got a chance to ride the Tahoe Queen, and she does produce a large amount of water. MS Dixie is a prettier boat, and looks more like a steamer, but the Tahoe Queen is a true paddle wheeler, and is also very beautiful.
@Chris9017 I love the beauty of the sternwheelers up here. I've always thought it added a wonderfully whimsical touch to the Lake. I just wish they would take better care of them.
@FabulousLakeTahoe I totally agree. Sternwheelers are very rare to find, but when you find them, they add a lot of beauty. The Tahoe Queen just under went a Massive overhaul, and looks great, but the Dixie still has more of a Mississippi Paddle Wheel Steamer charm even though she is mainly a propeller powered sternwheeler.
Just to clear things up from the video, the M.S. Dixie is actually propelled by propellers, not a paddlewheel. Notice when it is in reverse that the wheel turns forward. Also there is almost no water being churned up by the wheel on the Dixie, but the Tahoe Queen produces rather large amounts of water, showing it is a true paddlewheeler. The propellers also gave the Dixie an unfair advantage in speed.
The more times I see this the cooler it is.

@SuperCamaro5 Yeah, I noticed at the race... When I was a kid and they both raced sternwheel only the Queen used to win a lot more.

@somthinjustaintright Thank you so much for working harder on this video than anyone else did; you had more hours into this than I did.

Tahoe sure was blue that day, but it was way more exciting to be in the boat than to watch the video.
