A wonderful high country wilderness I've been to a couple of times. My first visit too the parks, I saw Bear, elk, beaver, and deer all in one day! Lots of wildlife up there!
MAN, love your vids, can't say it enough. Thanks for another great adventure, you do it right, that's for sure. Will be watching your latest one soon, lookin' forward to it. Hope you're havin' a great spring man, greets from MT.
@Nibiru128 Thanks for watching Chris! We were certainly well prepaired and I agree with you on it being a "dream country". The San Pedro Parks Wilderness is truly a hidden gem and I was very glad and fortunate to experience it when their was snow.
@kb9akp Thank you! I appreciate your support! This video is one of the 1st videos where I tested out the time lapse effect. The South San Juan Wilderness video (one of my older vids) also has a small clip with the time lapse effect added to it but it did not turn out as well as I had hoped for. The time lapse for this video turned out great and I think I will add this effect to future videos.
@Ben1257sb Thanks for watching Ben! After watching some of your videos, I definately want to get one of those GoPro camers. They look awesome! I will definately get out to Steamboat Springs, CO sometime to do some backpacking. Looks like a great place to be outside!
@lilricky2515 Thanks for watching! Most of the time, I will wear some lightweight shorts or the lightweight pants that have the legs that zip off. For this particular hike, I chose blue jeans because they are thicker and help keep me warm in the cold temps. Also they are more durable than the lightweight pants that I have. Chafing can be a problem when wearing blue jeans while backpacking but I have never had that problem. They do tend to be much heaver than the thin zipoffs but I don't mind.
What a beautiful and magical hike guys! I loved the music and scenery! It looks like your shelters held up well to some serious weather. Have you tested them in high wind conditions?
@SnowLobo95 Thanks SnowLobo! It WAS magical! The tarp shelters did hold up very well to the snow/hail/ or as Moose called it "snail". The Hennessy Hammock rain fly tarp works well in the rain/snow but in high winds, the moisture can get under the rain fly and into the hammock. The SilTarp 8x10 works excellent and as long as you have the tarp nice and tight when you string it up, it works VERY well in gusty or high wind conditions and can withstand brutal wind gusts without ripping ot tearing.
@tstockt Thanks for watching! My hiking partner caught just one Rio Grande cutthroat on Day 2 but he was a small 4 inch little guy not big enough to call a "keeper" so he was returned to the waters.
@medicjimr Thanks for watching Jim! I appreciate it! It was a very nice hike along the CDT this time of year and I should be hiking along it again up in southern Colorado here in July. Most of the snow should be melted off by then.
@rainbowhiker Thanks for watching John! This was a great time to do this backpacking trip. In the summer, this place is overtaken by cows and cattle. It was nice staying dry and off the ground by using the hammocks. I still like tents as well but with this much wet snow, it saturates the ground and it makes it really muddy. Many of my favorite desert BLM or wilderness areas do not have many trees and a tent is the better option then.
@hinckleypoland Thanks for watching and your continued support my friend. I was suprised to see it hailing these little "snow balls" on us all the sudden. Crazy weather!
Great video! I'm sure you both had a blast. Got to love the weather, but it made for a beautiful hike and experience. I love the T-shirt! Keep on keepin on!
@Ambear505 Thanks for watching Amber! We had some great weather and even the "snail" that was coming down only lasted for about 1 hour. A wonderful place to go hiking for sure. If you guys are interested in a t-shirt, PM me your shirt sizes and I'll deliver them to you guys when they come in.
That was a really really Good video. I enjoyed watching the full 25mins. The T-shirts are really cool looking as well. I am always impressed with your taste in music, and editing style. :) Keep up the good work. Thanks for taking me along on this 16mile journey in less than thirty. 2 thumbs up!!
@ez2curanut Thanks for the Thumbs Up Jimmy! I appreciate that! I think I mode this video a bit too long... might have done this in a 2 part series next time but I'm glad you enjoyed it. I can put you in for a t-shirt if you wish. Just PM me with a shirt size and a place to mail it off too. Thanks again Jim!
Question CrazyT... you mentioned another backpackers youtube channel that you like watching... I thought you said "wall hiker", but I couldn't quite make it out. Could you please leave a comment regarding who that is and maybe leave a link? I'd very much appreciate it. I love to watch these backpacking video's (living in Singapore doesn't afford me many/any opportunities to backpack, so love watching your videos).
@spikesterg Wawhiker is who I had mentioned in the video. Check out his channel or goto my channel and look for Wawhiker Backpacking in the "BEST Backpacking Channels On YouTube" section of my channel page. Their are many other great channels to see as well that are featured on my channel page. Thanks for your support my friend.
Wow... you guys carry some serious bed roll's. Sweet!!! Makes for comfortable nights, eh? Great video, man... I'm dying to get on a trail again some day.
@spikesterg Thanks for watching! Yeah, my friend had the large foam bed roll and I was using the Thermorest Z-Lite. (orange egg-carton camp pad) They are definately bulky but light weight. In the summer time when it gets much warmer, I won't need to bring the bed rolls/pads. I appreciate your awesome comment!
Now that's what I'm talking about... A few days out in some gorgeous country, good hiking partner, and some wicked cool weather! Really enjoyed the way you put this all together Brother... felt like being out there. Now I REALLY need to get outa here and hit the trail for awhile! You guys ever get a chance to hook a few of those cutthroats? Thanks for sharing another spectacular adventure!
P.S. Where's a guy get one of those awesome shirts??
@intenseangler Thanks for watching and your continued support my friend. I'm glad you enjoyed watching the adventure! My hiking partner caught just one Rio Grande cutthroat on Day 2 but he was a small 4 inch little guy and I had left the camera back at camp when he was fishing. Backpacking in the snow this late in the season was truly awesome. I have you down for a SW Backpacker t-shirt Brother. PM me your shirt size and a place to send it to and I'll get one to you! Thanks John!
Awesome video of you guys in the Santa Fe National Forest and it is typical of New Mexico to have changing weather as you experienced. Looks like you and Carlos has a good time despite the snow and falling moisture.
I look forward to your next video and hope you have a good and safe journey this weekend in the Santa Fe Mountains. Happy Trails as life is good outdoors.
@monzanoman You would have enjoyed the snow there Brix. It was cold at night and I was expecting it to be cold but not as cold as it actually was! :-D We certainly did some post holing on day 1 and day 2. Got some great footage of our 4 night, 5 day adventure into the Santa Fe mountains that I will post here in a couple days.
@LaneMaddox00 Thanks for watching Lane. The water filter I use and have been using for several years now is the Katadyn Hiker Pro. You can find this water filter at REI, Sportsmens Warehouse, or Campmor to name the places that I know for sure have it in stock.
Wow, May 21st! haha yep looks like the northwest mountains! Glad to see the fire going, looked warm and cozy. Great music selection. Hail Snow?! Nice looks like hail with the texture of snow! Haha snail! Nice one Mossey! Glad you had the tarps up. I would not mind at all having to do an extra 4.5 miles there! Another excellent journey and with your digital storytelling, I always feel a connection to the hike. Thank you for sharing the wilderness experience!
@ihikearoundcom I was suprised to see so much left over snow 3/4 of the way into May. I found myself post holing the 1st 2 mornings and without snow shoes, it completely wears you out! The extra 4.5 miles was not a big deal and made for more quality time in the wilderness... their is no rush to get back. :-D I have you guys down for a SW Backpacker T-shirt. Send me a PM of shirt sizes for you guys.
"Balls ... of snow." I almost died laughing when you finally said, " ... of snow". This is backpacker TV. Thanks for a great video, Crazy Tallez. A long video at 27 minutes - I was lost out there somewhere in the wilderness and became startled to become aware again back at my computer. I enjoyed all of it and I remember your friend from a previous upload, maybe the manzano wilderness.
@Loraxtribe LOL! "Balls... of snow." That was the first thing that came to my mind when the first couple balls of snow landed. I should have made this a 2 part series as 27 mins makes for a lengthy video. My friend you recognized in this video was also on the Manzano Wilderness video and a couple other vids. Thank you for your wonderful comment and support TheBackpacker.TV! I greatly appreciate it!
Haha - your tee shirts are a classy touch! You and Carlos do know how to make the most of a multi-day, multi-weather hike. So much eye candy on this one - your hammocks, gear, weather conditions, photo stills, (the creeks : ) and flowing water scenes) I could go on and on - fantastic! 4 thumbs up Matt! (Mrs. Wawhiker chimed-in two thumbs too).
@wawhiker Thank you guys for the "Thumbs"! I hardly ever go backpacking in the heavy snow, and I thought of you and your hikes/camps along the stream side while I was doing this hike. I got you down for a SW backpacker shirt my friend. I'm waiting for the next batch to arrive in several weeks.
Absolutly great video. I enjoyed this one very much, from start to finish. That was an interesting weather phenomenon on the second night. I'm not sure if it was snow, or hail, or mixture of both, which would, I guess, make it "snail"! Beautiful country, astounding. You have a very enjoyable style to your video making. Looking forward to seeing more.
@kookiemoose "Snail" is a great name for it. Very soft hail in the form of snow. I've heard it called "corn snow" before because the balls resemble corn kernels. Thanks for watching and your support!!
y did ye lite yer fire so far from yer hammocks

@ballygeale1 There were good "sitting rocks" where we made the fire. :-)

I've never used a hammock but that's a great idea for snowy/muddy conditions. I'd hate to try to set up a tent in that stuff!
