great video. the shin part looks very painful, but your shin seems tough. i was hoping to see something like this. is there any sports store that sells escrima sticks? although im not at that level yet. maybe ill find something around the house to start out with.
@T1ger8oi thanx man, unfortunately, escrima sticks are not sold in sport stores. if you can get a old broom stick that you can cut in half or something that would be great. Please check my website FAQ for some questions you might have regarding size and stuff.
Great video! There is a video of Manny Pacquiao conditioning his body with an escrima stick. He says that it helps him to prepare himself to take punches.
I found that rotating and squeezing tennis balls really help with grip and toning the forearms.Especially since they differ in density. When I shadow-box, i'll use them so when i extend my arm i squeeze. As you would do in a fight. And even just keep a good grip on em while extending the arms. Tennis balls are amazing lol.
@MaxwellHavins hey that sounds like a great idea, I use to play tennis, but I never thought of shadowboxing with the tennis balls, I guess I was too busy banging the racked on my shins lol
You are very enthusiastic about your training. Yes body toughening is important. Contact fighters are best conditioned for this since getting hit is part of their game.
This is what Bruce Lee did. Through out the day, he would find something to do that would toughen the skin, enhance speed, increase strength. Anyhow, that is what I read in a book about his life.
I really like your approach. I think you're right--we build a kind of "momentum" by establishing routines and manipulating our environments that is more conducive to continual training than "forcing" motivation.
Side note--one such exercise I am very fond of is performing blocks in the shower. In karate, we emphasize wrist rotation during blocks and strikes, using a "flicking" motion. One of the most natural ways to train this is to snap water droplets from your forearm in a quick rotation.
@brownqs hey thanx man, yeah we want to ultimately make training natural so it's part of the life style then one can I say that they truly live and breathe martial arts :)
Thanks again, I have been able to suss out the basics and I thoroughly enjoy your lessons. This video is very useful as well but thanks for your efforts for putting them together for us wanting to learn more about the filipino martial arts. I watch them every week and now they're a part of my routine at the end of my workouts. This is fantastic for a beginner like me and I look forward to any more videos you may have.
brilliant video. your right about what you have a around you. i keep a set of dumbbells by the tv. so i use them while watching tv. thanks for another great video.
@wmpyr Thank you, Sir, this has been a big wake-up call for me. Removed some of my video game CDs in my room LOL. Though now I got curious... how do the Japanese karate enthusiasts harden their shins?

sweet. Thai boxers have rediculous hard shins.

Thaiboxers are famous for hard shins here in the USA, but you should see the way Karate guys in Japan harden shins :)
