  • Go Vols lol.

  • cerebralfish1, it wasn't Tennessee's fault Chris Weinke got hurt, plus Florida St had weeks to prepare so thats not an excuse. Florida St was about to get routed in that game but in true Fulmer fashion, he called off the dogs. That game was actually on my birthday, January 4 1999,my boys scored 23 points on my 23rd B Day, there isn't a sports fan in the world who can top that.

  • Actually there was no luck on the fumble. Billy Ratliff told a teammate "I'm gonna get the ball" the teammate thought he was crazy. Ratliff sent "Clark Kent" the O-lineman back into Clint S and caused him to Fumble and Ratliff got it.

Sheer Will by a guy who came back from several injuries that would have stopped most.

  • i was with friends of mine earlier cooked them dinner when we failed on fourth down with a minute remaining i thought it was all over thanks stoerner for the fumble my fave arkansas player

  • Never gets old

  • Thank you for posting this! It is the first time I have seen it. I'm a big Vols fan, but turned off the TV when we failed on 4th down with a little more than a minute left. I couldn't bear to watch. I was sitting in another room, listening to music and hating life when the phone rings. It's my God-fearing aunt, who raised me, asking if I liked the end of the game? i told her "no." She asked why, because Tennessee won. I told her she would go to hell if she was lying. She said she wasn't. Oh my!

  • Go Vols!

  • sometimes it's great to look back at the past and hope for greatness in the future.

  • wasn't a fumble

play should have been called dead when the ball touched the ground with his hand on it

  • Sure, if he's downing a punt. Not so in this case, or the others like it.

  • luck smuck... if you win a NC you have to have some things go your way.. but as for the best team in the country being ohio state,,, what a joke??? can you say mason dixon line... every time OSU comes south they get the crap beat out of them.. Tennessee, LSU, florida... put OSU and FSU in the SEC and they lose 2 or 3 games every year... losers

  • Um, last time LSU came up north they were ranked #7 and lost to a 4-6-1 Ohio State team.

  • This is one of the many reasons why they were very lucky to win the national championship. They only beat syracuse by 1, florida took them to overtime, had it not been for the stuble, they would have lost here. They were loosing in at the start of the 4th quarter against mississippi st, not to mention because of the piece of crap bcs, they didn't play the most talented team in the league (ohio state)

  • I agree. And even though I'm an FSU fan, I have to admit, we were very lucky to make it to the national championship that year.

  • Funny coming from a Buckeye fan. 2002 Ohio State was by far the luckiest team to ever win a national championship.

  • yes while we were lucky, we never won a game solely based on a fluke like this one. You really the 2002 team was the luckiest eh, 93 florida st was crowned champs despite notre dame (the team that beat fsu) was ranked #2, or how about 1990 colorado, they should have never even been considered since they had a loss and a tie, not to mention winning another game only because of the worst in the last 20 years. just to name a couple of them, trust me i can list more but you'd cry how far back they

  • Huh? They actually got in through skill and didn't need "luck". I look at 98 UT, theres Stoerner's fumble, the UF kicker's miss. Look at 02 Miami (they didn't win, but seriously look up Wide Right IV, they needed a missed field goal to win, neither 98 or 02 Ohio State needed a missed FG.

  • @gamelvr1 Unless you're Nebraska in 1995, you need some luck to win the championship. But Tennessee in 1998 beat three BCS bowl teams, two conference champions, two teams that finished in the national top five and eight bowl teams. It's the toughest schedule any national champion faced until Florida in '06 (10 bowl teams). The difference is that Tennessee won them all, those Gators didn't. The '98 Vols had some luck, but they were also a great team.

  • @derkommissar1917 Righhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhht ... And in 1972, USC barely got by ... got an answer?

  • @63utuber What does USC in '72 have to do with anything? Obviously, looking at what they did, they were one of history's greatest teams. But their achievements have nothing to do with what another team accomplished 26 years later.

  • @derkommissar1917 luck was the fumble....marching the ball down the field and winning the game wasn't...

  • @derkommissar1917 People forget that TN also got a HUGE break when FSU's heisman trophy winning QB went down to injury 2 games before the title game. They had to field Marcus Outzen LOL. The next year with Weinke back they went right back to the title game and won it vs. Michael Vick and Va tech. I'm not much on blaming wins or losses on one player but losing the best QB in the country matters.

  • GIVE HIM SIX..... that's all.
