  • Down to earth music that will make you listen to the lyrics!!

  • wow ... first of all, my name is chuck cannon. my dear friend phil madeira and i wrote this song.

it has taken me this long to actually see paul's version of this song. i say this for no other reason than to lend a small amount of credibility to what i am about to say.

i KNOW where this song came from and the spirit in which it was written. other than the bit about the long hair, (and folks, i have seen all the pictures) ... every single line in this song is directly from the Bible.

  • "Amen" said the hooker and the hollowed eye boy with AIDS.

  • Paul Colman is an awesome steward of the talent that God blessed him with. Thanks for posting this great performance of a man paying tribute to Jesus Christ!

  • ..... We must pray, seek, Allow the Holy Spirit to use us, in us.

We need to go where Jesus went, do what Jesus did..... and more!

The Devil would have us debate rather than seperate from the things of this world.

What can I do for you today LORD.... not give me more LORD.

May GOD's hand be on each and everyone of your lives for eternity!

    Amen

  • ...... I challenge each and everyone who has commented for or against this song to listen one more time..... it is speaking directly to each and everyone of us.... are we casting out demons in Jesus name? Laying on of hands declaring healing and deliverance? Is our faith great enough to walk , whether it be on water or on any other impossible situation.

Man's world is so natural (yet so phoney)

Christ's world is so Supernatural (absolutely natural in the Spirit ) Continued ......

  • ...........We have been warned of worldly wisdom, to keep our mind like that of a child. Yet, times like this without an innocence we cannot see a terrific parable if it hits us in the face.

We are to seek him, to strive to be more like him, never reaching but always striving higher....

Everything he did we can do also and more!!!

I know, let's not look at that, that is truely where the rubber meets the road.

    Continueed......

  • This song is an incredible move of GOD, it bridges the Gap between the sepration of Church, breaking the Bonds of Denominationalism, truely expressing a Love. not right away I will add!

You must enter into this song with an open mind, not mearly a scripture quoter as even the Devil himself knows scripture.

Jesus smiled! That is how I see it, the day we hear this song and realize this is a personal conviction.... those that seem the most affected most likely have the most to say.

  • Do you really feel that Jesus, "Drove people away"? He was not even driving the Pharisees away. He was even preaching to them when he spoke in the Temples. He loved it when people believed in Him know matter what there lifestyle was. Yes, Jesus required repentance, but show me where repentance was a requirement for Jesus to spend time with them. Did you forget that Paul was not only a murderer he was also a Pharisee himself before coming to Christ. But that did not stop Christ from talkin

  • Jesus drove them away with the truth. He did NOT water down the truth one bit. I'm not talking about driving them away as an old lady w/ a broom would, but w/ His rebuke He drove them away because they hated the Truth. They exchanged the truth for a lie. Jesus could have softened the rebuke, but He didn't. Back in John 6 Jesus drove away over 10,000 people with the Truth & only the 12 were left by v66,67. Jesus spoke a controversial sermon in Luke 4 & they tried to throw him off the cliff.

  • What I am saying is Jesus was not soft when it came to the Truth. He told the Truth & people got mad because of it. Jesus did not compromise the Truth to make the pharisees, 10,000+, Nazarenes feel good inside. He rebuked them completely. He told the Truth as it was. In the same way, we should not compromise the Truth of God in songs like this. We are to test everything; hold fast what is good. (1 Thess 5:21, 1 John 4:1). The Holy Spirit told us through Jude to contend for the faith. (v4)

  • JPT62089, A child of God is still a sinner that has been washed in the blood of the lamb. Jesus came to seek and to save that which were lost and bring them to repentance. I don't know how many people you have lead to the Lord or helped to disciple, but most of them do not immediately turn into a perfect and shining example of holy righteous Christian over night. It takes time and exegesis from the scripture and the example of Christ to help them grow. God wants us to desire to be likeChrist

  • Forgive me if I gave the impression that I believe a person must be perfect to be saved, that is not the case. However, we MUST not stand for sin. We MUST not pat people on the back for sinning. Jude in his short epistle wrote to us to appeal that we CONTEND for the faith which was once for all handed down to the saints. Yes, Paul claimed to be the chief of all sinners, as we all should. But a Christian cannot be carnal and be a Christian at the same time. Jesus rebuked them in Rev 3:16

  • cont. from last post> when 7 to 10 people give their lives to Christ every week in our services, at our church. People are getting saved and going out winning more souls to Christ. You do not need to defend the faith to me.

    Matthew 9:10

While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew's house, many tax collectors and "sinners" came and ate with him and his disciples.

I agree with you repentance is required for forgiveness from God but Jesus Came to save that which was lost not the holy.

  • I ran out of room. JPT62089. Even God doesn't judge us until we are dead. Who are you to judge us while we are still alive? I sure am glad that Jesus set me FREE. Free to live and worship Him in any way that I am lead by the Spirit to do so. Please stop attacking people who believe in Jesus and help to go out win more souls to Him. I was raised Fundamental. I am now simply a Christ Follower, A student of Word of God, A graduate from Bible College, A lowly Evangelical who jumps for joy

  • I am not pronouncing judgment on anyone. What I am saying is that this song is.. "Quite honestly, this is the most disgusting "christian" song I have ever heard." And I have been scrutinized for saying so.

I don't remember ever judging Mr Coleman. Though if I have pronounced judgment on him please forgive me and let me know, with proof.

  • @JPT62089 I wrote it and you don't know what you are talking about.

  • JPT62089, You are so out of line! If you listen to the song he is talking about the things that Jesus did. He says if I were Jesus, I would....... In the Bible we are told that we are to strive to be like Jesus. Yes, Jesus was perfect and we can NEVER be perfect because the fall of man. However, because Jesus paid the price for our sins on Calvary we can be as perfect in the sight of God. We to try to be like Jesus. So he is not saying that he could have done that for us like Jesus did

  • This is a beautiful example of Christ. Yes some of the lyric seems questionable, but remember Christ came to save all! He did eat and associate with both his disciples as well as, "the worst of sinners". Who said that he was the chief of sinners in the Bible? The Apostle Paul. Paul was a murderer and Christ used him. Jesus was perfect yet spent most of his time with those that we look down upon in the Christian Evangelical Church today. Be careful who you condemn, because Christ wouldn't.

  • How is it a beautiful example of Christ? It's a man saying "Yeah I could have done that."

Correction, Christ ate with and associated with those whom repented of their sin. Did Christ eat with the pharisees? Nope. He rebuked them. Harshly. He drove thousands more away as well.

Yes, Paul said he was the chief sinners. But the thing to remember is this. He repented of his sin. Christ did not use him as a sinner, but as a person who repented of his sin and was made a child of God.

  • dude go back to paul he constantly says over the years that i am teh chief of sinners, then years later i am the less of the least of all the saints...over time he realizes what he thought was "okay" wasn't okay and realizes more and more that he is saved but he still has the nature to sin and continues to sin he never claimed to be perfect but called us to be "perfect" which actually he meant to mature as christians to get off the milk and on to the meat. And Jesus never drove off anyone

  • he chastized them; like paul writes that if we judge ourselves then we shall not be chastized of the Lord. He merely corrected the pharasies in their "holy" attitude. God (Jesus Christ) loves everyone; the pharasies, unsaved, saved, jerks, random people on the street, the prostetutes, the murderers, me, you and just everybody. So if he loved them (For God so loved the WORLD that he gave his only begotten son ect..) why would he drive them away? btw get more into paul's writtings people

  • And actually, you have it backwards. Paul wrote this sometime in the mid 50s:

"For I am the least of the apostles, unworthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God." 1 Cor 15:9

and wrote this in the mid 60s:

"...Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost." 1 Tim 1:15,16

I'm not saying I expect any Christian to be perfect. Absolutely not, but this song really makes me cringe. It lowers Christ's work to something that any of us could do.

  • What do you think Christ meant when He said "Greater works than these shall ye do also"? I haven't done these, but...'if I was Jesus...'

  • @JoySong9 These greater works include evangelism, teaching, & deeds of mercy and compassion—in short, the entire ministry of the church to the entire world. Not fantasizing about being Jesus. There is nothing in us even worthy to think about *being* Jesus. We are wretched sinners who deserve an eternal punishment in hell, not to be jesus. & only by the grace of God, He sent His son. Don't you think we should respect him more than singing that we could be jesus?

  • @JPT62089 Yeah true, but he's telling a story about His life through a funny song. Paul never said we deserve to be Him. It is worthy to think about what his life was like.

  • @JPT62089 You're right with some things but please stop disagreeing. I bet everyone here knows we are unworthy sinners.

  • @JPT62089 I wrote this song with Phil Madeira. I know exactly the spirit in which it was written. The last line of the chorus says it all. "I'd forgive you and adore you, while I was hanging on your cross"

You seem to have allowed your cringing to close your eyes and ears to the words of the song... the key word being "IF" ...

Friend, there is a world of people out there this song has reached. I humbly apologize that it has caused you offense but I do submit that you re-think your OPINION.

  • I love this song! But this isn't the guy who I like that sings best! No idea who is!;) actualy he might be.

  • The lyrics and music to this are great. There will always be the critics, Jesus had his and as history says we crucified him, yet his critics fled when he rose from the dead. I am sure God will use this song regardless of what any person may say.

  • Quite honestly, this is the most disgusting "christian" son I have ever heard. I lowers Christ to a "Oh I could have done that myself! There was nothing special about him". Instead Christ should be exalted not lowered!

The tongue of the wise commends knowledge, but the mouths of fools pour out folly.

Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.

    But examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good;

  • hes saying that given the opportunity he'd do exactly what jesus did and give his life for us. that or hes making a song about what jesus did

  • Sure, he may die for us, but that is all he can do. Die. He cannot even begin to scratch the surface of what Jesus did. Has Christ and Him crucified really been so watered down that it's perfectly ok for a man to say that he could be Christ if given the opportunity?

  • I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching.

For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.

    2 Tim 4:1-4

  • So then he would be our substitutionary atonement? he would pay for our sins? Tell me, how could he do this? Is he a perfect being as Christ is? Is he fully God and fully man as Christ is? Can he even die for the one single sin? Only Christ can do this. Do not compare Christs perfect work on the cross and His perfect life with a sinful man. There is no relation between the two, and you should not even say that you can even begin to achieve what Christ did.

  • This is not by Toby Keith!

  • Such a feel good song. Reminds me of the simplicity, purity and wholeness of Jesus.

  • As far as not giving glory to God....if His name is being praised...he is pleased. Only God can judge...and I read in scripture that as long as His words are being shared....in good or bad intentions...they are still being praised. People are allowed to be offended...but just know...as I am reminded every day...that Christ has a sense of humor as well. Toby is knows for being a bit wild.....but he is a tallented man...and god has given him great abilities....if he slowed down on the pot...

  • this is complete bullshit. i'm forced to listen to it at work.

  • Then why are YOU choosing to listen to it on here. I think it's pretty great! Peace, love and God bless!

  • @FAITHWEAVER38 True enough...i haven't been on this account for over a year and i'm appalled i would even write something like that. I agree with you completely. Religion is not my thing but that's no reason to talk down to those who follow it. I hope you can forgive me :/

  • This is GREAT!!!!

I'm coverin' it at church next time I play.....

  • Comment removed

  • it meens that jesus did evrything right, if he was jesus he wouldnt have done anything different.

  • dude just give up you suck

  • If you read the lyrics and don't listen to him sing it sounds offensive, like the lyrics are making fun of Jesus rather than giving Glory to Him.

  • I agree.. I was kinda questioning this song.

  • this guys is gunna be at easterfest!!! woot! XD

  • Thanks Paul, this song is awesome !!!

  • this song has everything in it...based on the truths written in Gods word.

Jesus has a sense of humor...he gave up heaven to come down here & be with us. It all starts with realizing who we are & loving him...give back to him what he gave to us on the cross.....our lives. Open your heart...let him love you & you will be amazed at how his love will change everything......

  • thats originally by paul coleman

  • The first time I heard this song on 98.5fm, sitting in the train, I could feel the song just penetrating my heart. I sensed Jesus love for us and how passionate he was to towards people. Well done Paul, great song.

  • my sentiments exactly. Aren't we all trying to be more like Jesus. I can see Jesus in Paul and the music he sings, the life he leads....rock on

  • Yer Jesus roxs this world!!! you can say that one million times!!! This songs soo cool

  • i cant find tabs for this and i want to play this for my dying grandpa in the hospital. does anyone know how to play it

  • Look it up under Toby Keith - may not be exactly the same arrangement, but the lyrics are the same and it should work.

Blessings to you for sharing this with your grandpa.
