amateur hour man its just noise there dymnaics for a reason, with the right instrumentation and techniques it will be more exciting then loud and nasty
I don't have any problem with the arrangement, yeah their not doing the dynamics but who fucking cares? This isn't reflections on the nature of water. Its a groove, show-off piece!! It needs to be fun and alive, and yes it should push, no reason to sit in the pocket or on the backside of the beat, this thing needs to cook, even if its at the expense of a little clarity or accuracy.
you people posting on this guys site are real assholes. Who the fuck are all you to be so mean? try using CONSTRUCTIVE criticism. Sound is completely different live then on a camcorder. Grow up, it was a fantastic performance especially for high school
BosPercussion was right on the money. You should not have added other background instruments, but I understand that was probably not your choice. You should consider playing it again with just the original three, for a better recording. Nice job though. That's a huge piece of music. Keep playing!
I really agree with BosPercussion. I played the bassdrum part in this very impressive piece of music. I think the piece is gettin ruined by the percussionists. Too bad
Good job for a HS player on mallets. The background voices are far too much. Miki wrote it for 3 percussionists, and probably should be kept to that so that you can hear all the dynamic inflections of the soloist.
DIdn't you ever learn if you didn't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all? Listen buddy...we weren't auditioning for the NY Philharmonic at Carnegie Hall. It was a high school ensembles concert.
Not to mention that this was recorded on a consumer camcorder mic, and sounded a lot better live. If you think you could do better, please direct me to one of your videos.
Unfortunately the space is too boomy for a good sound. All you get is this big cacophony of noise. Also, the soloist is lost in a sea of boomy drums. They need to understand their role in an ensemble when playing a piece with a featured instrument.
We wanted the entire percussion section to perfom, not just a few of us. This included freshman-seniors. Obviously this would take away from the clairity, but we were going for overall look and feel. Keep in mind that all the battery was inprov. except for the one middle part.
The marimba player is amazing...however, at many times the ensemble got off time, or the marimba was rushing...might be a little better if they stuck a conductor in there, but that would never happen.
oh no!!! smae thing happened with the chimes at my school. only it fell onto a frech horn player who had 2 go 2 the hospital. and then i got blamed - BUT IT WASN"T MY FAULT!!
One of my old Music Prof's performed this, but at the concert, forgot to lock the wheels on the marimba and sent it into the first row in the last bar
I remember playing this one. I haven't seen it with this many players though. We did it with three percussionists and the marimba. I liked your arrangement a lot though, gives a really thunderous effect behind the soloist. Have to say that you have some tempo issues - the solos really lost the click, even with the cowbell pounding they still rushed, and I'd say you probably would have benefited taking the whole thing 10-20 bpm slower. Overall though, really impressive for a high school.
I bet the people who clicked the dislike on this are stuck up percussionists!

yeah. i agree. it needs more dynamics. and you
joerules03. the whole thing doesnt need to be fun and lively. all the parts have different moods.
but anyway, it was really fun to listen to.

Wow, horrible choice of mallets and the accompanying voices were far too "wet" for the hall, making everything just a noise.
Nice attempt.

sweet marimba playing. it puts me to shame, but what's with the 7 extra percussionists? when i did this, there were only 3 extra parts....

Excellent job, except the battery section is too overpowering at times.
