@elliotb92 it takes some finesse for sure... this video was one of the earlier attempts but I use this frequently now and much more smoothly than what you see above... also I recently saw this successfully done to finish a UFC fight (UFC124 - Vocek vs Hazelett).
I pulled this off in a sparring session the other day highly recomend it for No-Gi For Gi there are a few others i would use for instance x- choke or ezekial choke.
very untidy jiu jitsu it looked to me that neither had great technique in what they were trying to do and the guy looked to gave it to him... you have to be more clever about it... they looked liked white belts... no disrespect by the way, i love bjj and respect anyone that does it...
TarZan - I'm not sure I get your point... there were no claims that these guys were experts -- just students of bjj. Truth is that both were in the beginning stages of training when this video was made. It demonstrated a technique that was seemingly rarely used at the time - which was actually a few years before its actual posting.
why is everyone so fucking horny on street fighting? If u see a soccer player kick a ball, do u say "I dont think that will work in a street figh!" ffs guys, ITS A SPORT!
...maybe the fact that Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was created specifically FOR the ability to street fight? Gracie created the UFC so there would be legit fight competitions that aren't point-based. BJJ was never intended just for sport, it was designed for superior self defense, UNLIKE soccer.
I'd push him back with my hands, and grab his upper body with my feet, and push him far away, until he lets me go. Or i'd bridge, and counter from the top position - rise on my feet, sit down behind his ass, grapple and push him away with my feet.
(btw, it has been teached in my trainings, but i missed it -.-)
in the noble words of sensai john creese,"man can't walk he can't fight.man confronts you in the streets or the dojo,he is the enemy....and the enemy deserves ,..."no mercy"
Thanks - In the search box above, if you type in "jaeblu triangle from mount" you will see me apply this in different matches. The one here was the first and I've been perfecting this over the past couple of years.
Personally, I don't see this move as something I would ever use in a street fight; but it is a very effective move in a 'sport' submission fighting/grappling match. Since this first one that I applied, I've managed to begin to perfect this move and have used it regularly in matches.
what's bad is i am not a good fighter but i actually beat someone with a traingle choke in a real fight, mind you i was getting pounded but i saw a opening tugged him down and i won, though i was called gay>.>
That guy that was tapped gassed. At the end of the video he wasn't controlling his opponents distance effectively. The hold was good so props on being able to finish a strictly grappling competition.
true, if you're skilled and trained for many years. i mean, for the majority of BJJ / Judo guys, they would prob try this and get killed. best of luck
nice use of sankaku jime from the mount, sankaku waza and applying it effectively in different situations is probably the most important aspect of your ground game.
That is so not true; if you practice this stuff and try enough, you'll figure it out. You can see other examples of this technique by using these keywords: triangle mount jaeblu
hollerfirst - you are so right; once you get past the size differences, technique is king... control and positioning and the ability to think ahead of your opponent can make all the difference.
wow, ive never seen that before. definetly a finisher. but it seems like itd be tuff to get the legs under his head in a real fight, when your fatuiged. probly takes alot of practice to get it though.
Thanks. I've never tried this in a street fight, but since this particular clip was video'd, I've used this move quite a bit when doing submission fighting matches. Most opponents don't expect this type of submission from the mount. You can see several other example applications of this same move from the video list on my channel.
The more I attempt this move the more I'm finding opportunities to apply this move. Like most submissions, the more you try it, the more you get...the more you get, the easier it becomes to se the opportunity and apply it.
the most impressive triangle i've ever seen was when tony bonello got picked up to be slammed and applied the triangle mid air and held it even after he hit the ground. It was brilliant!
you have to be very quick o pull this move of (or very heavy), alot of the time a person can simply bump and roll, this destablizes the person on top, and gives you a fighting chance, but if you can pull this move of like the gentle man in the film, all i can say is well done, good move to have in your arsenal :->
I agree. I will add that providing you get the one leg under the head, your opponent can bump you and you can still lock it up as you roll to your side -- that in itself can make the guy think he's gaining ground when he is actually falling into the triangle trap. I've had success with this one and have a few other vids in my collection demonstrating this. Just type in: Triangle Choke From Mount in the Search box to see all four.
It can be tricky keeping your weight up high enough to keep him pinned down and not topple over, but I've used this move several times and it works. Actually to hook the leg, sometimes I will fall over making him think he is rolling me - it gives me better leverage for locking in the triangle.
I think he can escape if he rolls you before you has the leg hooked over his neck. Afterwards looks to me like you can pull it of no matter the position.
yeah, i used it in this years gracie invitational in the fight for 3rd. search "2007.05.19.15" even if they roll you, you have it ready to apply. but he escaped when i swapped to a sloppy armbar :D
well, this was my 5th fight so i was pretty tired, didnt put it on with a vengence, i should have underhooked his leg to stop him stepping over (which is a good escape). i also probably could have adjusted and pulled his head into it, but the armbar came up... but as i said i went for the armbar sloppily heh.
yes it was a ufc fight it ws funny cause the guy on bottum went for it, the other guy tried to roll out but first guy rolled into top triangle and instantly told the ref he tapped but he did not. then a second or so later the guy did tap. I hope that made some sence
some one asked me if any body had ever seen a triangel from mount in a big name mma event. so I answered. I train mma primarily in BJJ. I know what this is!
looks easy to do if the other guy just falls asleep and doesnt move
try doing that on someone whos trying to get out of mount

depends on the street you don't want to end up on the floor because 90% of the time friend has buddies to shitkick you
