All you have to do is use your Campus email (the one ending in '.edu' when you register at Autodesk.com, this software has all the main functionality of the Pro versions but cannot be used for commercial apps. But this is still a good way to learn the programs. ;-)

  • do you know where can i take a workshop for motion capture?

  • Isn't Boujou insanely expensive also? Last I heard a license for that was in the 10ks. But between buying multile tracking cameras and an insanely expensive program license... it's safe to bet that there's no easy solution for independant workers.

  • grittles and tea

  • AutoDesk offers this product FREE to students (that includes college). Check that out, I bet a lot of you didn't know this. Thumbs this up so more people will see it.

  • @AlexsTechChannel

Autodesk offers softwares like Maya, 3DS Max and so on for free if you're a student, AND if you study these things.

Same as I have access to free Microsoft Softwares, like Windows, Visual Studio Ultimate, MSDN libraries and so on, because I'm a student :P

  • dude, wye woudent youy just stick 4 qr codes on the sides of your head, there are programs allready desined to follow those and theyr direction, eaven their deformation,so you dont have to have a square box

  • Very good introduction to basic motion capture. Cheers!

    Thanks for sharing!

  • Thank you

  • looks not bad^^! Nice

  • First, where do I get a piece of paper to cut up into little squares? Then, there is the problem of pen acquisition, then of course, finally, my widdle head is neva gonna get dis. I'm going to the Bahamas and shoot sleeping tourists instead.

  • I think my brain is leaking a little.....that was a powerful presentation. Great work, I have been wrestling with motion capture and camera tracking and this video helped me get a better concept.

  • You are funny!

  • BRAVO..........!

  • hi ... nice video.. i would like to see it "step by step" if its possible .. or if you can recommend some tutorials for this

  • cool

  • how would i track the point to on the video??? im currently doing a case study about the motion capture and an implementation in the future

  • How do you make that video play in the background?:)

  • Aha, I understand it now .. thank you ..

  • this is what i wanted to see! does it also work with other 3d tracking programs that are also compatible with maya?! cause i got maya with a 3d tracking program which comes with maya! yet, i worked with it only to get some 3d models into footage but does it work with it?

  • you have tow possibilities either you export the geometry of your animation into your fav composition package or you use Boujou it works just fine with maya's files

  • dude , u know f-in Magic

  • wohw! can you make a full turt?

  • GOOOOOO RMIT

  • going to fast...

    NICE TUTORIAL 5*

  • damn nice!

  • Not that i didn't think this was possible already but this vid really dose help me when it comes to theorizing how to film so i could drop effects into a shot.

Fantastic break down of how things here would be used and applied.

  • They use this to make videogames, right?

  • Anything involving 3d, really. You could use it for video games or effects in movies/TV etc.

Watch Appleseed for a very stunning example.

  • Well anything that would require virtual movement

    even scientific demonstrations use them.

  • nice work...

  • Not so much the cost, it's how the product is used. People who have the funds to buy the product will most definitely have to study it beforehand.

  • i u not buy

     free download

  • GREAT!! one step closer!

  • nice

  • how much is maya and bonjou?

  • I think they are around 7.000 dollars each.

But last time I checked seems like they lowered the price of Maya to 3.000.

Not sure, but It's more than what the average teenager can afford!!!

  • @slackdave I have MAYA, and a teen but I'm not rich, what I did was that I downloaded it from VUZE in several parts, it took several weeks, but I've got it, the problem is that is pretty hard to use and it takes time to do semthing, from creating to animation.

  • @slackdave Download it for no cost

  • @slackdave An average teenager may be a student - in which case one could buy an educational version for about $400. It comes with Maya, 3DSM, Mudbox, Backburner, Toxic, and other software.

    I bought mine at Studica.

  • @slackdave depends autodesk has an education site where you can download all their software for free you get a 1 year licence but it is only for education purposes only.they told us where to go in my 3d modeling class i will try to post the link

  • @iceman27406 you can, studica

  • @slackdave duh, crack

  • @slackdave if you are still a student, there is the student edition which runs about 300-400 dollars i believe and its a full license for the program... i also believe it includes a couple of other programs as well

  • @slackdave there's piracy you know... not that i recommend it or anything

  • @slackdave What is 7000 dollars each??

  • @slackdave screw the paying just pirate the program...im not wasting money on anything till i acsualy get more money

  • @slackdave maya is free for teenagers.

  • @slackdave If you have a school email, you can download a 13 mo. trial of all the educational software for free. Just go to student.autodesk.com. I wish they did this earlier - I bought the 2009 edu software pack for $400.

  • @SethGibbs i wanna do visual effects at uni next year, are you studying in this field?

  • @slackdav There is a website called academicsuperstore. They sell the Maya student package for around $350. If that's still too much, there are other ways of "acquiring" Maya.

  • @slackdave Torrents?

  • @slackdave There are different versions, and yeah, the professional versions are extremely expensive. Maya dropped in price when Autodesk bought them. Before that, it was a professional software mostly and therefore expensive. Buying an educational suite is cheapest. I think I bought mine for a few hundred. Also, if you are a student you can get the downloadable version from Autodesk. Some one else already posted a link to you tho, I think.

  • 10 grand :p
