  • I just got my first batch of convict cichlid fry and they do the same thing but in the "calm corner" of the tank and there easy to tell the sex becuase the redish bellie ones are females and the ones that dont are males. Very easy to sell.

  • my convicts cichlids eggs just hatched do i have to do anything or will they take good care of their babies, and will they spawn again with the babies in the tank?

  • my convicts have had there fry 3 days ago, its my first time experiencing fry in my tank, there are other fish in the tank, will the fry be safe from these other fish ??? 13 fish all up including the two convicts,

  • I've got convict cichlid fry in my tank atm. Whenever I try to look at them, the mother swims right towards me in a defensive manner. Lol.

  • good

  • thats amazing! what size is that tank?

  • will they not mate if they do not have the correct substrate?

  • mine keep eating there broods

  • nice video my black convict also had her fry just yesterday

  • Sorry but that's incorrect ~ convicts aren't even mouth brooders. I think they may be wigglers in your take just please be patient. I was upset because all my eggs from my convicts were gone so I grabbed the cave they bred in and babies poured out the bottom. Soon you will have babies trust me even if the eggs are gone expect more in 2 weeks. I never believed I would want to get rid of so many until I had all of them. :)

  • Or they aren't fertile.

  • They probably hatched and she might be holding them in her mouth.

  • plz reply i need help my convict layed her eggs and now she removed them all i dont know where they all went.. and she left some translucent eggs where they were and she did not move them whyyy ??? HELP plz

  • The interesting thing about some Cichlids is that they will actually not attack things they grow up with most of the time. They only get aggressive defensively when they have something to protect. "platys and swordtails" might be attacked because they are so passive. There are some mnuba cichlids that are always aggressive, but these convicts are usually not too bad.

  • can someone answer this if i stole a babie from my convicts(wich will be a challenge)and i put it in with my friemds platys and swordtails could it possibly grow up to be nonagressive

  • Anybody want some convict fry I have maybe 50+

  • how much?? where do u live?

  • Mine was that small when I got them - two died (I think the biggest one killed them - he's nasty!) and I have him in a 10 gallon all by myself, but I would like to breed him when he gets bigger. Any advice?

  • Do they eat there fry?

  • Nice vid n guy can u plez check my cichlid plez rate like

  • how big do convicts have to be before they breed and is it normal for a male harass a female

  • @superfishman123 Sometimes they will harass until the female gives in and starts to breed with him. It might also not be a female he is harassing.

  • aaaaw look at the little chiclid babies ^_^

  • black convicts dont eat thier babies right instead they protect them?

  • @emochild1996 Right they protect them, even go as far as sucking them into their mouths and transporting them if they swim too far from mom and dad.

  • ive read that frequent water changes are vital. but did you think its completely necessary?

  • @nuggetwetyou Frequent water changes are important to signal to the fish that there is a change in environment which in nature might suggest that it is time to breed. I do 50% water changes every week or other week.

  • this sucks when it happens... I originally bought convicts to live breed for food... for my red terror devil and other assorted mix mash of fish...but didnt realize that convicts protect the young even long after they are able to swim on there own... its a bitch to get them out of the tank... try a vacume or remove the parents and let the other fish "go nuts"

  • @Owned2424 You could try fencing off the parents. Fry will always swim away too early.

  • I have Convict Cichlids Fry in my tank is there some type of food i have to feed them do do they eat at all????????

  • @danlewis2344 There is a powder type feed by hikari that is really easy for them to eat. You could also just crush up some flakes really fine, but powder is best for the couple day old fishies.

  • hey guys cool fry could you come to my channel and look at my video idk if my convict is a female or not

  • @CichlidsRock63 if shes female itll have a red tinge on her side... the males are slightly larger with simple black stripe's

  • my convict pair got divorced :( the male turned into a wifebeater so i had to move her into the 55 community tank, im just glad the female doesnt bother the peaceful tankmates, the single father male is a good dad though

  • did one of them eat the fry?

  • @africancichlidman Nah, they rarely eat the fry. They will suck the fry up to transport it or place it back in the group. I have read, however that in the rare event a Convict Cichlid eats fry is when the fry is deformed.

  • @africancichlidman No, they are transporting.

  • I thought they guard their babies, not eat them....

And how many of those actually lived anyway?

  • How many gallons was this tank?

  • where the cichlid eating the fry

  • how often do they breed?and how many fry?

  • @MXZCharlie hundreds and very frequently. Maybe every three-two weeks if they are separated from their babies.

  • i used to have 20 or so electric yellow babies and i put them in a tank and they died only 3 survived and when i left them in my tank only 1 survived

  • Awesome!

  • Did some get eaten in the video?

  • Go back to 22 seconds.. did one get ate? I have fry in my tank but i'm sure the parents have eaten most of them!

  • will the fry be safe if theres 2 juvenile oscars a 12" clown knife, and some bichirs in the tank?

    PS. fed twice daily

  • can they be kept with tetras or characidae?

  • i have an oscar in my tank about 3 inches long

i have 4 convicts all about 2 inches long and a turtle but the turtle just sits on his log

i have an area in the tank that the oscar doesnt like to go to because i blocked it off with decor and plants he can still get through but doesnt stay in there

i was wondering....will my convict cichlids stilll breed??? water temp is usually around 79-81 i have them in a 10 gallon and they all seem very happy

and i have flat rocks(2) in the tank

  • @shittalker3256 get a waaaaayyyyyyyy bigger tank!! a 3 inch oscar alone is too big for a 10 gallon tank!

  • i love this tank in your fish no homo lol

  • omg... thts wht they eat!?!?!?! thts awsome!!!

  • does anyone know what i should do? i was cleaning my convict tank and took out the decor and saw that on one decor there was fish eggs so i put both mom and dad in a bucket should i put them back into the tank

  • how many of the babies ussually survive

  • dude my dad used to have some of those when i was little but we never fed them because they were mean and they kept on having babies and eating them.

  • they are big for 2 weeks.. my jack dempsey cichlids at at the same size like those but thye are allmost 2 months.. i only feed them crushed flakes about 1-2 times a day, what can i feed them?

  • how big are the parents and how do you feed the fry?

  • Nice! Mine appear to be at the same age along if not yours being a few days or week older! It was the first for my two convicts so it's been awesome.

  • How do you breed them???Please tell me everything!!!!!!!!

  • @LilKolo523 It's as easy as placing a breeding pair in a cycled tank put in some flat stones and flowerpots and you'll have more babies than you'll know what to do haha Convicts breed like crazy you'll have babies every few weeks if you keep a clean tank but be advised you'll have anywhere from 25-100 babies to deal with a month if your not careful they will outbreed your tank

  • wow.. beautiful frys.... did they all survived..? you had nothing but sand..? nice..

  • MOM, DAD... PLEASE DON'T FIGHT!!!

  • wow very nice batch!!

    100 minimum looks like!

  • how long does it take for the eggs to hatch? do the parents watch them all the time?

  • It sometimes depends on the water temperature, but on average, it takes the eggs 3 to 5 days to hatch. Yes, the parents watch them ALL the time. The other fish in the tank are lucky to even be within 6 inches of the babies. There's no need to separate the fry from the parents or the other fish either. Convicts are extremely good parents.

PS. One of my males went as far as killing a juvenile for getting too close for comfort with his fry. Convicts aren't for the faint of heart, ahah!

  • ive only had my convicts 3 weeks, they are still very juvenile but have already had fry babies, i always thought they had to be mature to mate

  • how big is this tank?

  • how big are them ? in this video

  • fry is like fish baby's

  • wat is fry?

  • fry is another word for a baby fish basically.

  • @phillyicon1 Baby fish !:)

  • how and wat do i feed my new born convict fry

  • ++HELP PLEASE++ my convict pair have free swimming fry how long can they stay with the parents??

  • @temper1995

for as long as they whant what fish do u have in there with them?

  • @zay123455432 i have 0NO OTHER FISH IN THE 20 GALLON LONG JUST THE PAIR but i already taken the fry out and got 150-250 but i think they are going to breed again good money for me $1-2 at 1cm

  • What do you do with the fry?

  • im currently setting up a tank for Convics. What is the best set up for them ie. temp and even decor like rocks and stuff do i need to provide Cover like rock caves and what not? im just a beginner. and would the fry get sucked into a UV Steriaiser?

  • awesome!

  • would it be okay if there are other breeding convicts in the same tank? While there are baby convicts inside?

  • yes, when they stick them in their mouth like that, they are simply giving them a quick clean, and moving them into a safer spot for protection in case they were away from the school.

  • hey dere nice fish could u plz tell me in how much time period there frys take to bcme adult n best of luck for ur fishes

  • LIKE MY FISH :)

    GOOD LUCK

  • at a certain point do you have to separate brothers and sisters to prevent inbreeding?

  • Im sure there eating thelittle ones?

  • They are not eating the little ones. They are cichlids and they are usually mouth brooders. Look it up. google is good.

  • Yeah iknow now lol btw how big are ures i am thinking of getting sum but like 1-2 inches how many fry u recon they can have?

  • No they are not eating them. They are moving them.

  • what kind of fish are in the background

assorted cichlids? yellow and blue combo???

  • Yes. Lab and some other blue kind.

  • where did you by it?????

  • nice 5*

  • I was thinking about putting a pair of cons in my 20 gallon long. I was wondering what do you do with the fry?

  • AWESOME!

  • Can you introduce the convicts to a tank of 3 featherfin synodontus?

    Someone please answer.

I'd love to get these guys for my tank. Look cool.

  • The mother and father are only aggressive as far as they need to be to reproduce. If they have a little corner with a little shell or something to use as a substrate to grow out the eggs they are happy. They stick close together.

  • @KwakeDesign i had 2 synodontus destroy some convict eggs, get a partition and section the convicts off in a part of the tank :)

  • @KwakeDesign Yes. Syno's are native to where the Cichlids are from so they usually get along.

  • did they spawn on a rock or on the sand?

  • On a rock. Something like a cave is best.

  • Comment removed

  • how old needs to be convict cichlids to breed? i have 3 months old convicts.

  • idk but my teacher had a bunch cuz they spawned and she gave me 7 of them

  • mine were less then 2 months and they had babies. but the babies didnt make it :(

    watch my video please!

  • can you keep convict cichlids with oscars if they are grow up together at a young age

  • yeah ive heard of people doing it but you have to have them right from babies and they have to be the same size

  • can somebody please answer this question?: can males have a little bit of orange on them too? i have 2 convicts and i know for sure that one of them is female because she has a lot of orange on her. My other one has only a few specks on it, but his dorsal fin looks a lot sharper than the females. you can see my convits in one of my videos. Please help and thank you.

  • not likely

  • yea NEVER trust that orange crap!!! i hav bred cons before and on had no orange and other had orange both females also the males both and orange aswell!!!

  • growing fast ;) any tips for my frys?

  • hes eating them ahah

  • pet store lady gave me a pair and their fry.most of fry were eaten by the other cichlids in the tank. so wen igot home i seperated thim

  • how do yours grow so fast!?! mine are 2 weeks and are the same size as a brine shrimp. Why aren't they growing faster :( any tips???

  • They sell fry food at local pet stores generally. You basically want to feed them something really fine. Looks like a powder before you wet it. You can try to make it from other fish foods but the prepared stuff doesn't clump up in the water and so the fry are able to eat it easily. Water temp is important too. warmer means higher metabolism and faster growth rates. Mine was in the sun half the day.

  • np they put em in there mouths then spit it back in to the group to protect it

  • i have a pair but the male is mean to the female she has to stay up in the corner or the male will attack her!! WHY??? help anyone

  • Try adding a few more females or throw in a couple dither fish so he will pay attention to them. Or you can take the male out and let her take over for a while and re-introduce him. Then it will be her terf.

  • You should take the male out, and leave the female alone to recover, then after a few weeks put the male back in and the female will be a little bit more dominant because she knows the place better =D

  • will convicts go well with my kribs . if not can you sugest any cichlids that will except rams

  • other dwarf cichlids

  • nice..loce it..i got a 2 inch female and a 1 inch male...the male is so small for the female..the female is hella red or orange

  • great pair . i have a female pink con and im getting a black male soon

  • Question How many Convict Cichlid can you house in a 75 gallon... Nice Convicts by the way :P

  • how can you tell if there male or female?????

  • females have orange on their belly. males dont. males have pointier fins.

  • i jus got a male convict.. n i planned to make it a pair.. how did u paired them.. can i jus go n find any female convict..?? are they picky..? the male is a little bit aggressive, do they...

  • put a female in their and theyll breed very quickly.. at least mine did. at first they were aggressive like for the first day then they formed an unstoppable bond. chek out my vids

  • im thinking of geting some cons any segestion on care and feeding

  • can you use this fish as a feeder fish ?

  • THe fry? Yes. The grown con? No.

  • y not the grown

  • well...da cons r aggressive nd r rarely used as feeders, but unless u can find 1 to eat it, i guess sooooo

  • too big?

  • yea as long as they fit in watever ure feedings mouth. i feed them to my large tinfoil barbs

  • did he just eat a baby at :29 ??

  • probably not. They usually pick up stray babies in their mouth and spit them back into the larger group.

  • awesome... i miss my convicts

  • what type of sand is that?

  • do you have to remove the fry from the parents?

  • goood

  • what do feed those nice little fishies?
