Never said I was an engineer. This aircraft is clearly meant to be a lifting body type aircraft. The US has been experimenting with them for years, we even had working prototypes in the 60's and 70's. The US built three disc shaped aircraft with a standard tube shaped fuselage. They were well ahead of their time and were too expensive to operate. Now NASA has several lifting body aircraft that are capable of exoatmospheric flight.

Where did I say Russians were stupid? And the Ekranoplan is also nothing new, there were Ekranoplan-like craft before the Caspian Sea Monster was built. And on another note, is the Ekranoplan still in service today? No. It's tactically unfeasible and doesn't really have the range to make it applicable for anything more than littoral (shallow water) operations. The thing would never survive a voyage through a hurricane.

Yes,it is in service! But before u gonna make an another note without checking it out,look on a current Russia map ,and check where is the Caspian Sea and the Black Sea! Then check where are their old navy docks or bases! None of them is in Russia now! No plane will survive a Hurricane :) !
