@celesguy2 I did too, but sadly my video was being blocked by EMI, claiming copyright issues, in 249 countries and people were having issues watching it. I was given a list of music to choose from (and this was the best one to choose from - which tells you just how bad my options were) such that the video could be visible world wide rather than in only 11 countries.
@fpgt91 You know, there's a lot of royalty free music sites online that are copyright free. Try searching some royalty free stuff. I'm sure you can find something better than what you got forced to pick.
It's crazy how all this happened over millions of years. If you think about it, all of our known history pretty much happened in the last 3000 - 4000 (6000, if you're feeling generous) years, and even that seems like soooo long ago. But what's 4000 years compared to even 1 million, let alone 500 million years? =0
the song is not called 'Air' but is by the band 'Air'. it's a smaller crime to mess this up than it is to use the song without permission though, i guess.
for all you new south wales and queens land folk who say that melbourne is cold and wet, in forty million years time the "top" of australia will be at the top of vietnam and the whole of australia would have moved 90 degrees anticlockwise so yeah enjoy being sunny while you can!
@Yovillespoliers For more specific information a good idea is to check out the website to the regions geological survey in which you are interested in. They often have much more specific information than can be offered through this video.
Here's one for Australia (just copy / paste and remove the (dot) and place an actual period in its place)
@AmuniaQ All the extra information can be found in the drop down tab below the video for future reference. The song is entitled Air by La Femme D'Argent
Glad to know your students will be seeing the video, it's main purpose, hopefully, is to serve as an educational back up for those that like to see processes and ideas in action.
Hope they enjoy it and thanks for the kind words :)
This one has the comments and the elevator music, and I prefer the rectangular map, but version 1.0 was SO much easier to visualize. I'd recommend you either make the continents crawl, or go back to the stills.
Very nice, but I think you have an error. It's the Deccan Traps in India that have a timing associated with the KT boundary event, and given that they were almost antipodal to the Chicxulub impact site, they might have been triggered by that impact.
The Siberian Traps appear to be associated with the Permian-Triassic extinction event, which may have been caused by another large impact, although that's a much more speculative idea than the KT boundary impact.
You're absolutely right, and thanks for pointing that out - it has now been corrected.
As for bolide impact with the PT extinction it is certainly more tenous with its evidence as "vanishingly small Ir anomalies, no shocked quartz, and ferruginous spherules are ascribed a volcanic origin. Of course a lack of evidence does not rule out bolide impact as a non-chondritic meteorite would not produce a tell-tale Ir anomaly." - A. Hallam and P. B. Wignall, Mass Extinctions and Their Aftermath
Thumbs up if you liked the old music better!

@maestermatt There really isn't a final formation. The Earth is dynamic, so it will keep shifting.
