Eugene I will agree with, however I actually enjoyed The Hurricane, my only problem with the gimmick was that he was treated as a glorified jobber for the most part.

You must just be down on America to say such a thing, because there's virtually no difference between Hurricane/Eugene and Ebessan/Kuishinbo Kamen/Catfish Man. Catfish Man? And you have the gaul to call American comedy gimmicks childish?
Japanese comedy gimmicks are ironic reflections on pro wrestling memes (mocking things like the drop down and stand-off).
Eugene is a funny gimmick (although Nick Dinsmore will be stuck wrestling as Corky Thatcher for the rest of his life), but it's crazy to compare it to what people like Kikuzawa do.
An idea:
2 Out of 3 falls match: Ebessan uses that hilarious pin to win the first fall, then just pins the guy again for the 2nd one.
