  • What a cover... So relaxing..Great job Ken..

  • Thanks.

  • absolutely fantastic playing, i love your voice too, have you cut any official cds. :-)

  • No, there are no CDs. thanks very much for the comment.

  • this is my favorite thing that I've seen in the new year. this song is also one of my favorite 80's tracks, and you've handled it in such a unique way - the ukulele-ness of it is wonderful. thank you for this!

  • Thanks so much for the comment.

  • Very good idea to adapt this song to the uke. It works very well.

  • Thanks.

  • :) Nice

  • Always liked this song - lovely version!

  • Thank you.

  • ...and at least it's not like the Flying Pickets version!

I like the style you did this in. It suits the song well.

  • Thanks Tony.

  • This is great! How long have you been playing ukelele Ken? Do you play many instruments?

    Paolo

  • I have had a ukulele for a long time, but the guitar is my main instrument. I also play piano, bass, synth, saxophone, etc.

  • Thank you, Tony.

  • Wait, so what's the strumming pattern?

    Oh wait... ;-)

    Great cover!

  • Haha. Thanks very much.

  • On glancing at the title- I swear it said Kazoo cover & through out the whole video I was waiting for you to pull one out. However, since this was fantastic- I'm not disappointed.

  • I once met the poet Mike Horovitz. He played a Victorian kazoo as part of his act. Yes, they are that old.

  • This is one of those songs I've heard being played often as a young lad. Listening to it again gives me this sort of warm feeling. Having it being done on a uke by a maestro ... is speechlessly marvellous! 5*

  • Thanks again Dylan.

  • Great stuff. I remember this came out back when I was living in Basingstoke. Lots of years and miles between now and then.

  • Yes, I think they re-released it in the '90's.

  • happy new year ken great song love your version just watching it with my little boy sam he has just turned one and he's been clapping along nice one ken

  • Wonderful. Thank you.

  • I love your version of this Ken! It's a great song. It reminds me that I was working on an instrumental version of it about a year ago and forgot all about it. I'll have to finish that sometime.

  • Yes, I'd love to hear it, Michelle.

  • Very cool, Ken. I'm sorry to say I remember this one ha ha :)

  • I have a soft spot for music from this era, Anna.

  • nice cover sounds good that way

  • Thank you.

  • awesome cover, nothing but the best from you!

  • I appreciate the comment. Thanks.

  • You are so fine sir!

  • Thank you, Ma'am.

  • Hi Ken.

This vid is the first one I've watched this year. I think it was a good choice. Brilliant as always.

I feel like I'm going to have a good year now and I hope you do too.

    Thanks Ken.

  • Thanks and have a great 2010.

  • Super Dooper!

  • Thanking you.

  • Yay! I love this song! I haven't heard it for ages. Really excellently done! Love it! That's some super-varied strumming! Go 80's! Go Ken! :-) X

  • The '80's were great. Probably my favourite decade after the '60's, of course.

  • i really like your rendition of this song. great job!

  • Thanks again, Leslie.

  • Fantastic love it! Happy New Year!

  • Thanks. You too.

  • superb job ken

    cheers

    Ken g

  • Thank you, Ken.

  • Wow. I haven't heard this song in forever. What a brilliant way to remember it. Beautiful rendition!

  • Thanks Shane. Hope you had a great holiday.

  • You're full of surprises Ken. The song works well on the uke.

    Nice job!

  • Thank you Derek.

  • great job Ken

  • Thanks Stephen.

  • You are better than what I thought. At you 75, you still rock! Keep it going!!

  • Haha. Not quite 75 yet.

  • Bravo Ken!

A great 80's tune done with passion.

  • Thanks. I actually liked the '80's Brad.

  • Wow !! Great strumming !!

    Really superb.

  • Thanks T.

  • I really liked the vibe you gave this one. Superb!

  • Thanks. At least it was unusual.

  • oh yeah, that brian ferry song, "There was know way of knowing"~ "no more"

  • over the rainbow / ELVIS, treat me nice, fullstop/ and something familiar with "no more"/"close door" ~GREAT Rythm~ THANK's. a great song

  • Thanks very much.

  • That was awesome Ken., great strumming! The sound reminded me of another song. If you take request can you do "Sultans of Swing" by Dire Straits? Or any other Dire Straights song for that matter would be awesome. 8-)

  • Thanks. I've actually done Sultans (in a waltz style) but I think it's on another channel. I may have done a couple of others too. Brothers In Arms springs to mind.

  • Sure is an expressive strumming pattern you don't want us to ask about... :)

  • Thanks David. I have a thing about strumming patterns - I don't like them.

  • your covers continue to amaze me Ken. You are one of a kind.

    beautiful unique arrangement. Loved it!!

    *****

  • Thanks Chris. Appreciate the comment.

  • Its many years since I last heard this Ken and you have, as always, made a great job of the cover. Uke is definitely preferable to the "a cappella" version of the Flying Pickets!

    Thankyou!

  • I'd forgotten about their version.

  • Great cover! You are an acomplished fingerpicker and strummer too.

  • Thanks Diez.

  • what brand uku and series is this uku?

  • It is an Ohana TK-35G.

  • scarf ace , say hello to my little friend

quite brilliant version ,in fact so good that i think i am gonna learn it in your style

  • Thanks you K. Have a great 2010.

  • Great version of this Ken- havnt listened to any of their stuff in years :)

  • I think they re-released it sometime in the '70's Caroline.

  • Excellent Ken ! What's the strumming pattern ? Only kidding :)

  • Hi Armelle. Haha. Thanks.

  • BELLISSIMA !!!

    5*

    Alberto

  • Grazie Alberto.

  • Ha ha! I've got to send this to one of my colleagues - he is a record collector of Yazoo exclusively and has over 100 copies of this album from different parts of the world. I must say your version is a billion times better than the original which he has forced me to listen to far to many times...

  • Send it by all means. I would be interested in his reaction.

  • Done!

  • His reaction: "I'm in love!". I don't know if he's referring to the song or to you...

  • Outstanding!

  • i'd love bring out the dark side of your character but instead, i'll leave you with this comment. well done Ken! you look rather comfy all bundled up with that scarf. 5*****

  • We're having a cold spell at the moment and my office/studio/attic is pretty cold, Russ.

  • Tabs plz.

    heh. Yazookulele!

  • Haha. When people just write "tabs plz" and nothing else, it brings out the dark side of character. In any case Alan, I haven't got a clue what I was playing.

  • Love this song. It still bothers me that Yaz is Yazoo in other parts of the world. Great job Ken! Go 80's!

  • Weird isn't it. I will be in LA next week for NAMM. I think I'll shorten my name to KeMiddleto.

  • I like it! I hope to work the neck like you someday! :)

  • Haha. I have no idea what I playing. it was mainly intuition.
