  • Great information

  • Why do people assume that highly ranked universities are the best place for undergraduate study? The rankings are based on research. First and second year students need the guidance and attention of a good full time instructor, it makes no difference to them how good their teacher is at part time research. The best advice is to earn your bachelor's degree at a small school that's excellent at teaching, THEN continue to a highly ranked university (like UCL) that's excellent at research.

  • @Axelman852 While this is true, the atmosphere and resources are the main reason you pay to go to university. If you're surrounded by students who love the formal education system and you want to do well there, it is easy to get motivated. The resources are excellent. That being said, it doesn't really matter what university you go to. If you want to better society, do it. Not getting in to a good school is not going to stop you.

  • @HabeKeinMitleid My point was not against formal education nor education in general. My point was that research ranking says little about the quality of teaching. But thanks for replying.

  • @Axelman852 Ah. Got ya. Sorry.

  • @Axelman852 Benjamin Franklin had to leave school at the age of 10. He bettered society greatly.

  • @skinnimelon at first I got conditional, but because I am an international student I have to send my results through post to UCL, rather than UCAS notifying the university like a lot of the UK students do. So a few days later UCAS updated me and I got unconditional offer! =D

  • i studied here for a degree in advanced alco-pops and special subject in chlamydia. You know what they say. You go to college either to get laid or to get an education.

  • I got an uncoditional offer here (: I'm soooo excited!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @akacopycat how did you get an "unconditional" offer?

  • I am planning to take admission in University of wales ,cardiff for MBA.. is it a good university and how about the city..is it good in living and getting jobs out there...

  • Really want to get in here, not sure if I'll have the grades. What is this three A system? How does that translate from GPA (80s, 90s, etc.)?

  • I just got accepted :)

  • the fees are a joke

  • I never thought I'd ever want to go to uni so I never did A levels, now all that has changed. I'm a late bloomer :( I have an NVQ level 3 in IT and BTEC 1st diploma in engineering, I want to do Physics. Do you think I'll stand any chance of getting into UCL with these qualifications? If not what can I do to qualify? Thanks for any advice.

  • I have an offer here. But I also have an offer for Cambridge. What to do what to do...

  • I got into Imperial and UCL! WHICH ONE?!?!?!?!

  • anyone doing geology at UCL ??? how is it. Im hoping to go after college

  • I am graduating from UCL next year and it is way to heart-breaking! UCL is amazing! People are very laid-back and the atmosphere is very friendly. For all of you who think of applying, do it!

  • who's the gu sitting down at the beginning? my politics teacher told us there was a guy who pickled himself and he's at UCL

  • can anyone tell me what life is really like there?? i am thinking of applying and i need to do it within 2 weeks. anything is appreciated. thank you

  • WARNING : Any student who is thinking of approaching a company called the "Institute of Independent Colleges & University Teachers (ICUT)" for help with private tuition--DON'T, because ICUT's Director, Dr. Vincent McKee, is a throughly dishonest individual who'll ask for your credit card details and will withdraw money WITHOUT YOUR AUTHORISATION OR CONSENT. McKee used to have a British Telecom internet connection but they cut it off when students complained and BT identified McKee as a SCAMMER

  • SHIT? 3 As? im done for

  • iv got an interview here on monday for the BA in fine art..... ahhhhhhhhhhhh!!

  • how did it go?

  • @Alexdurrant7 i failed :)

  • scum uni UCL

  • @whoiszizou You must go to the strand polytechnic...

  • @whoiszizou

You go to 'strand polytechnic'? ;)

  • which one is better? Universityi college london, Imperial College London, City University London or School of business?

  • @DanielCMM none

  • imperial college is better...but its departure from london university to be indepedent had affected its position this year...i think it will go up again

  • loughborough is the place to be!

  • yup..lboro has climbed remarkably in Engineering..specially in ME/AE.. I reckon in next ten years it would be next to ICL and UCL.

  • Loughborough...you think it will be next to UCL in ten years' time? UCL is ranked higher than Oxford now in the world rankings; I highly doubt Loughborough will get anywhere near that. Not saying it to undermine the place - it just seems very unrealistic that it will become a world top 5 ranking university like Oxbridge and UCL

  • i sent my application off last week i hope i get a place on the human sciences dream UCL looks fantastic and its course is perfect so begin the waiting game lol

  • cant stand the wait its horrific

  • Is it easy to get into here for medicine, if I think I am gunna get AAA, maths chem and bio? And assuming i am not a complete asshole or anything :-)

  • i go ucl HA HA HA HA HA HA ...HA

  • I turned UCL down too (for LSE), but IMO you traded down...

  • i wanna go to UCL sooooooooo bad for architecture but the competition to get in is too much. Everyone else is better at art than me :(

  • UCL is absolutely incredible. It's in the heart of London, surrounded by pubs, night clubs, cinemas, bars, restaurants, museums, theatres, parks, art galleries, shopping venues, landmarks and just about everything else. It's a few blocks away from the British Museum, which itself is just amazing. Students from all over the world attend UCL, making it extremely diverse. I had the time of my life there, and left with a First-Class Master in Science (MSci) degree in Palaeobiology.

  • @turxxx

Please stop make me feel more and more bitter and jealous!

  • @turxxx was there a lot of sex?

  • Huh?

UCL is huge, and it offers an extensive list of courses. You obviously don't know what you're talking about. You have made yourself look very stupid.

  • Anyone find the guy's accent and tone annoying?

  • It depends on cource. Some departments do not help you but dissapoint you.

  • Comment removed

  • Yes indeed it's the best university..

  • I had 3 A's in my A-levels for admisison in computer science. I loved studying at UCL, it is best of the best place for studying in England.

  • im confused now.. is it a uni or a college

  • It is univ. which issues its own degree.

  • It's a college (part of London University, the overarching body), but the London colleges have much more autonomy than the Oxbridge-style colleges: UCL is practically an independent university.

  • "UCL is practically an independent university"

what I said was "It is univ. which issues its own degree"

    Question: What is the difference?

  • What are you talking about?? You're wrong I'm afraid, drwriter09. There are a huge variety of courses on offer. Don't know where you got your info from.

  • Those are not the only course listings. There are a lot more courses, maybe you were just looking at the history department

  • I would sell my soul to go to UCL, full of so many hot ladies from all over the world!

  • you are saying it because you can't get in prestigious UCL :P

  • LOL check 0.43 'erm the grades i got WAS ....' i mean for fuck sake, come on.

  • 02'! Down with the King! ha
