Why do people assume that highly ranked universities are the best place for undergraduate study? The rankings are based on research. First and second year students need the guidance and attention of a good full time instructor, it makes no difference to them how good their teacher is at part time research. The best advice is to earn your bachelor's degree at a small school that's excellent at teaching, THEN continue to a highly ranked university (like UCL) that's excellent at research.
@Axelman852 While this is true, the atmosphere and resources are the main reason you pay to go to university. If you're surrounded by students who love the formal education system and you want to do well there, it is easy to get motivated. The resources are excellent. That being said, it doesn't really matter what university you go to. If you want to better society, do it. Not getting in to a good school is not going to stop you.
@HabeKeinMitleid My point was not against formal education nor education in general. My point was that research ranking says little about the quality of teaching. But thanks for replying.
WARNING TO ALL STUDENTS: You are strongly adviced to STAY AWAY from a private tutoring company called University and Academy Tutors (UAT), based at Jesson House in Coventry,England. This company was previously known as ICUT (UK), but the owner of the company, "Dr." Vincent McKee, was outed by Sky News in January 2011 as a FRAUDSTER. McKee then changed his company's name to UAT (GB) and his OWN name to "Patrick Murphy." Sky News AGAIN exposed him in March 2011. He now calls himself PATRICK KELLY
@skinnimelon at first I got conditional, but because I am an international student I have to send my results through post to UCL, rather than UCAS notifying the university like a lot of the UK students do. So a few days later UCAS updated me and I got unconditional offer! =D
i studied here for a degree in advanced alco-pops and special subject in chlamydia. You know what they say. You go to college either to get laid or to get an education.
I am planning to take admission in University of wales ,cardiff for MBA.. is it a good university and how about the city..is it good in living and getting jobs out there...
I never thought I'd ever want to go to uni so I never did A levels, now all that has changed. I'm a late bloomer :( I have an NVQ level 3 in IT and BTEC 1st diploma in engineering, I want to do Physics. Do you think I'll stand any chance of getting into UCL with these qualifications? If not what can I do to qualify? Thanks for any advice.
I am graduating from UCL next year and it is way to heart-breaking! UCL is amazing! People are very laid-back and the atmosphere is very friendly. For all of you who think of applying, do it!
WARNING : Any student who is thinking of approaching a company called the "Institute of Independent Colleges & University Teachers (ICUT)" for help with private tuition--DON'T, because ICUT's Director, Dr. Vincent McKee, is a throughly dishonest individual who'll ask for your credit card details and will withdraw money WITHOUT YOUR AUTHORISATION OR CONSENT. McKee used to have a British Telecom internet connection but they cut it off when students complained and BT identified McKee as a SCAMMER
I would like to warn Chinese students who are currently studying at the University of Dundee to be very careful when speaking to University staff. The staff at the University of Dundee are deeply racist towards Chinese students, in particular, and the city of Dundee has seen several attacks against Chinese (and other colored) students in the past few years. Also, the academic standing of this university is low & Chinese students should not consider coming here.
imperial college is better...but its departure from london university to be indepedent had affected its position this year...i think it will go up again
Loughborough...you think it will be next to UCL in ten years' time? UCL is ranked higher than Oxford now in the world rankings; I highly doubt Loughborough will get anywhere near that. Not saying it to undermine the place - it just seems very unrealistic that it will become a world top 5 ranking university like Oxbridge and UCL
i sent my application off last week i hope i get a place on the human sciences dream UCL looks fantastic and its course is perfect so begin the waiting game lol

I had to turn UCL's offer down - I'm too good for 'em. I decided to go to Goldsmiths instead. Yeah, that's right - GOLDSMITHS ! Remeber the name UCL - remember the name!!!
UCL is absolutely incredible. It's in the heart of London, surrounded by pubs, night clubs, cinemas, bars, restaurants, museums, theatres, parks, art galleries, shopping venues, landmarks and just about everything else. It's a few blocks away from the British Museum, which itself is just amazing. Students from all over the world attend UCL, making it extremely diverse. I had the time of my life there, and left with a First-Class Master in Science (MSci) degree in Palaeobiology.
It's a college (part of London University, the overarching body), but the London colleges have much more autonomy than the Oxbridge-style colleges: UCL is practically an independent university.
What are you talking about?? You're wrong I'm afraid, drwriter09. There are a huge variety of courses on offer. Don't know where you got your info from.
