Boy, I think Middleweight and Welterweight fighting in the 40's and 50's was the best of any era. Robinson, LaMotta, Basilio, Gavilan, Fullmer, Turpin, Olsen, Graziano. Wow, most of them are in the Boxing HOF

Robinson didn't put LaMotta down only because the referee stopped the fight. LaMotta's body sagged after that last brutal flurry. He was ready to go. Jake had a great fighting heart. The only fighter who's chin I would compare with Ali's is LaMotta. Possibly George Chuvalo.
@ForzaAquila Hagler was such a fine boxer that I don't think his chin was tested that much. The 3-round brawl with Hearns was the only time I recall him taking any heavy duty shots; but he seemed to handle them well because he stayed on the attack. I'm not sure if I would put him in LaMotta class because I don't think he got hit too often.
@BruceinFalkirk I had forgotten about that one. Hagler was predicted to have an easy time with Mugabi. The fact that he didn't indicated that Hagler had slipped. Ray Leonard noticed it, and wanted a fight with Hagler right away. Overall, though, Hagler hadn't taken a lot of punishment.
I'll add one other to the list of chins: Gerald McClellan. His knockout defeat to Nigel Benn wasn't the fault of his chin failing. He knelt down and took the count as he was suffering internal bleeding. Otherwise, his chin must be up there with Lamotta, Hagler and co.
@Nonpeon Marciano was not even a real heavyweight. He was barely 200lbs and 5 foot 10 inches. He could have easily cut weight and fight a lower weight class. For him to be able to be such a great heavyweight is unbelievable. With a guy like that anything is possible.

Lamotta had heart and guts, not to mention a titanium chin. However, when it comes to putting a tag on the better boxer I'd have to stick that one on Ray. They were both greats, don't get me wrong, but in terms of boxing ability and technique there is no question between the two.

Guys i remember watching another fight where jake actually puts himself to the rope and let robinson smaack with 15 full impact punches until the referee stops it, it was a bit like the part from raging bull, i've been looking for it i cant find it, it was truly amazing tho you were able to see jakes back and his head just flunging up, down, left, right but he stood in the same place, it was TRULY undescribable, please thumb this up because someone might have a link. thanks :)

Lamotta had heart and guts, not to mention a titanium chin. However, when it comes to putting a tag on the better boxer I'd have to stick that one on Ray. They were both greats, don't get me wrong, but in terms of boxing ability and technique there is no question between the two.
