good vid, and def not saying this to be mean or anything... but for those that are confused about finger placement, honestly, i have created a vid in detail strictly for finger placement... i have already had great and positive feedback for it and have not had 1 single bad response, it is strictly about beginners doing cornrows and with exact verbal and video instructions... vid is a little over 6mins...
@sanman1185 Thank you and I don't think you're mean, i think you're another person that didn't watch the first 2 videos where I explain. This is part 3. My first and second video go over finger placement. I made the series after multiple requests from subscribers. Find the first video and I'll approve your video as a response to that. I'm not sure how people end up seeing this one first, but responses like yours has motivated me to change the titles so maybe people don't get confused. Thanks!
@sanman1185 Weird. I'm going to go and look and make sure they're public, a couple of times some of my videos wen't private and a didn't do anything to them. Maybe that's what happened. I'll check it out
Thank you very much for this video. I'm actually starting to get the hang of conrowing :). Its still doesn't look as good as yours, but I'll keep trying.
nice work....im super fustrated because i don't understand how your holding your hands to twist the hair it dosen't make sense to me :( whatever i give up on trying to cornrow my hair ive watched a bunch of videos and none make any sense i guess im not gona learn lol oh well this is another epic fail on natural hair....that perm is starting to look real good right now lol but anyway great vid very informative wish i could do it tho...
@BoOkWoRmCuTiE1224 Aww, have you tried the whole series? The first one better explains how I'm holding my fingers. I hold my fingers in a way that you can do it with me in the first video and it's practiced on different colored yarn so you can see what's going on. This is the last segment so it's not explaining that very much. No, not and epic fail and people braid straight hair so even if you do get a relaxer you can still benefit from learning how to braid.. Try the first two videos
My neice grips the hair the same way you does. I thought it was odd when I first saw her do it, but she does a good job with making braid tight where it don't come aloose.
@trecey920 awesome! I taught myself how to braid, so I guess at the time it was easier for me to hold the hair this way and I just kept with it. I also like it because I can braid faster this way and they turn out snug, instead of so tight I get a facelift and tightbumps around the edges, (I hate my hair being too tight) Maybe I'll watch other cornrowing videos and see how they do it
@chauntewllms Thank you so much and Awesome! How is the practicing going? I hope it's going well, just don't give up and you'll be doing it before you know it :)
OMG thank you soo much i've spent the last two days looking at various vids on youtube about cornrowing but ur's was the most precise and easiest to look at and follow step by step, and ur technique works really well and is the simplest to follow especially for beginners !! and most of all i did it finally :)
@beautifulplaya <insert high pitched girly shreak!!!)) Awesome!!!! I'm so glad I could help and that you did it!! Woop woop!! You go beautifulplaya!!!!! I'm so proud of you! You're welcome sweetie! Very welcome!
Thanks for the tuts. I spend at least 2 hours or more cornrowing my hair by just doing the way that involves adding hair to the left and right strand; I'm a slow braider to tell you the truth lol.
So, basically when adding hair you sweep across with your middle finger then add it to the middle strand, and bring it under the left/right strand afterwards?
I really hope that this improves my speed at cornrows and getting them at a straighter angle, especially when I get past the crown.
@raven721m that's exactly what I do in one fluid motion. Takes some getting used to but when you get it down, it's a piece of cake and saves so much time! I hope it does too! I sincerely hope it helps, It saves me time so I don't see why it wouldn't you :)

@xoxonani99 Thing 1, If you didn't mean to be rude you wouldn't have been. Thing 2, look up words (like nappy) sometimes before you say them and you won't seem so stupid. Thing 3, Thank you for the compliment because if you had done thing 2 you would know that you just told me my hair looks soft and fuzzy. Have a nice day.
Thankyou so much for the step by step instructions!! Ive been wanting to learn how to cornrow for a while now! and all the other videos just confused me!! Thankgod i found your video! I even practiced with the earn and it really helped!! thanks for the awesome video!!
u make it seem so EASY! it goes super fast when u do it...I think canerow technique makes the braiding take at least half the time of cornrow technique...maybe even less!5*****s
It is easy once you get the hang of what to do with your fingers {:o) Takes some time to get into the hang of it though, lol! I'm glad you enjoyed it and thanks :)
what products do you use to get the cornrows to look so neat, I can do the cornrow, now I want to mayeb get the baby hair to lay down a bit more and look neat?
I don't use extra products to make my hair lay down. I did have some of the shea whip and spray that I make in my hair leftover. Some people gel around their edges before they start cornrowing or do their hair wet to get it to lay down more. Maybe one of those techniques will work for you? I'm sorry I couldn't be more helpful :(
great...I've been trying to learn for a bit....It's like your hands have to learn what to do..lol...I get confused on when to pick up hair...but if it's only added to the middle...I think I can handle that. Thanks for taking the time to make and post the vid!
I understand what you mean, That's why when I do mine I end up kind of tilting my head to the side so my hands can stay in about the same position they're in for the top rows. You'll get better at it though with practice, and next thing you know you won't even have to look to do them {:o)
HH753, you sure can, it works on all hair textures, but some people find it harder to do straight hair because they find it harder to grip etc. You can do it though.
Thank you StewartStylez, I almost took cosmetology so I could, but it wasn't in the cards. I still might some day so I can go work in a salon or something. {:o)
thank u so much and yes u r the my fav. one i seen on here..i like that u do it close up..so basically when ur cornrowing u just bring each piece under one another>>>correct????
Thank you naturalbeauty02, It warms my heart I can help others {:o) Yes, that's basically it, except you have to bring the right under, then the left under all the while grabbing more hair.
Thanks for these vids. I think yours are the best I've seen so far. You're right about the middle fingers though. I think mine have a mind of their own, but I'll keep trying. So far, mine are still a little messy. My hair is longer, so I'm having a hard time keeping it out of the way. Again, thanks for the help!
You're welcome and thank you {:o) I'm going to do one more showing another way. It takes a little longer, but it's probably easier for your longer hair.
Thank you and aw, I'm sorry :( is there a part I should do over to make it easier? No, but the front was probably stretched from having that headband on. It takes a lot of practice, but once you learn it you can't/won't forget it.
Thanks so much for offering to to show me a part again. I'll try to practice. I think I've got the concept but my fingers aren't cooperating. Hopefully one day.
No problem, just let me know if you want me to. I really want people to be able to do it the way I do because it's so fast. It's not you, it's this technique, no one is used to picking up anything with their middle fingers, let alone hair, but it works. Do you think maybe I should do a tutorial showing how to do it the way everyone else does?
I have the three pieces (pause at 2:47) have my hands in the position I showed in video 1 and when I go "catch" the middle and switch (explained more in vid 1) instead of just grabbing the middle hair, I sweep my finger across the scalp behind the middle grabbing up the middle and the extra hair. I hope I said that right {:o)
Sorry, I couldn't help ya DariusIsBomb. :( This is how I cornrow my own hair and I tried to show it from as many perspectives as possible so people could follow along. Maybe you can find another set of videos that can show you how.
I'm sorry DariusisBomb, This is the main way I know how to row on my own head. I can do it the way where you hold it and move one piece at a time, but that takes longer so I don't do it. How do you braid?
Thanks for Aya!!...My hair is too curly now to try this, but when I do a twist out I will and possibly a video to show that I got it...still gotta practice some more though*
