  • good vid, and def not saying this to be mean or anything... but for those that are confused about finger placement, honestly, i have created a vid in detail strictly for finger placement... i have already had great and positive feedback for it and have not had 1 single bad response, it is strictly about beginners doing cornrows and with exact verbal and video instructions... vid is a little over 6mins...

  • @sanman1185 Thank you and I don't think you're mean, i think you're another person that didn't watch the first 2 videos where I explain. This is part 3. My first and second video go over finger placement. I made the series after multiple requests from subscribers. Find the first video and I'll approve your video as a response to that. I'm not sure how people end up seeing this one first, but responses like yours has motivated me to change the titles so maybe people don't get confused. Thanks!

  • @ayamejoy i actually can't find as of yet, your part 1 or 2... I'm going to try and reload all your uploads again, and see if i can find it

  • @sanman1185 Weird. I'm going to go and look and make sure they're public, a couple of times some of my videos wen't private and a didn't do anything to them. Maybe that's what happened. I'll check it out

  • Thank you very much for this video. I'm actually starting to get the hang of conrowing :). Its still doesn't look as good as yours, but I'll keep trying.

  • @Butterfly077777 Awesome!!! I'm glad I could help you get started! :) You'll get better and better all it takes is practice :) Have a good day!

    Aya

  • nice work....im super fustrated because i don't understand how your holding your hands to twist the hair it dosen't make sense to me :( whatever i give up on trying to cornrow my hair ive watched a bunch of videos and none make any sense i guess im not gona learn lol oh well this is another epic fail on natural hair....that perm is starting to look real good right now lol but anyway great vid very informative wish i could do it tho...

  • @BoOkWoRmCuTiE1224 Aww, have you tried the whole series? The first one better explains how I'm holding my fingers. I hold my fingers in a way that you can do it with me in the first video and it's practiced on different colored yarn so you can see what's going on. This is the last segment so it's not explaining that very much. No, not and epic fail and people braid straight hair so even if you do get a relaxer you can still benefit from learning how to braid.. Try the first two videos

  • My neice grips the hair the same way you does. I thought it was odd when I first saw her do it, but she does a good job with making braid tight where it don't come aloose.

  • @trecey920 awesome! I taught myself how to braid, so I guess at the time it was easier for me to hold the hair this way and I just kept with it. I also like it because I can braid faster this way and they turn out snug, instead of so tight I get a facelift and tightbumps around the edges, (I hate my hair being too tight) Maybe I'll watch other cornrowing videos and see how they do it

  • @ayamejoy I will attach it to this vid as a vid response

  • @trecey920 ok, I created one. I do mine different then you if you like u can check it out. Do what works best for you.

  • the best tut by far on how to cornrow...this is going on my favs and im still practicing, thanks!

  • @chauntewllms Thank you so much and Awesome! How is the practicing going? I hope it's going well, just don't give up and you'll be doing it before you know it :)

  • OMG thank you soo much i've spent the last two days looking at various vids on youtube about cornrowing but ur's was the most precise and easiest to look at and follow step by step, and ur technique works really well and is the simplest to follow especially for beginners !! and most of all i did it finally :)

  • @beautifulplaya <insert high pitched girly shreak!!!)) Awesome!!!! I'm so glad I could help and that you did it!! Woop woop!! You go beautifulplaya!!!!! I'm so proud of you! You're welcome sweetie! Very welcome!

  • Thanks for the tuts. I spend at least 2 hours or more cornrowing my hair by just doing the way that involves adding hair to the left and right strand; I'm a slow braider to tell you the truth lol.

So, basically when adding hair you sweep across with your middle finger then add it to the middle strand, and bring it under the left/right strand afterwards?

I really hope that this improves my speed at cornrows and getting them at a straighter angle, especially when I get past the crown.

  • @raven721m that's exactly what I do in one fluid motion. Takes some getting used to but when you get it down, it's a piece of cake and saves so much time! I hope it does too! I sincerely hope it helps, It saves me time so I don't see why it wouldn't you :)

  • not tryinq to be rud3 but your hair is nappy sowi

  • @xoxonani99 Thing 1, If you didn't mean to be rude you wouldn't have been. Thing 2, look up words (like nappy) sometimes before you say them and you won't seem so stupid. Thing 3, Thank you for the compliment because if you had done thing 2 you would know that you just told me my hair looks soft and fuzzy. Have a nice day.

  • @xoxonani99: I haven't seen one Black person whose hair wasn't slightly "nappy" in its natural state. Are you an idiot?

  • I really like this video. :)

  • @MISSHFJ3 Thank you MISSHFJ3, I'm glad you like it {:o)

  • Thankyou so much for the step by step instructions!! Ive been wanting to learn how to cornrow for a while now! and all the other videos just confused me!! Thankgod i found your video! I even practiced with the earn and it really helped!! thanks for the awesome video!!

  • You are very welcome peacelikethat47 {:o) I'm glad that you're finding the videos helpful! Thank YOU for watching :)

  • this is the best how to cornrow video ive seen you actually held the camera above your head and showed how to do it...thiz was great*

  • Thank you so much iitsdominique, I did the best I could without a camera man/woman {:o) I'm glad you liked it!

  • @ayamejoy aww your welcome : )

  • u make it seem so EASY! it goes super fast when u do it...I think canerow technique makes the braiding take at least half the time of cornrow technique...maybe even less!5*****s

  • It is easy once you get the hang of what to do with your fingers {:o) Takes some time to get into the hang of it though, lol! I'm glad you enjoyed it and thanks :)

  • what products do you use to get the cornrows to look so neat, I can do the cornrow, now I want to mayeb get the baby hair to lay down a bit more and look neat?

  • I don't use extra products to make my hair lay down. I did have some of the shea whip and spray that I make in my hair leftover. Some people gel around their edges before they start cornrowing or do their hair wet to get it to lay down more. Maybe one of those techniques will work for you? I'm sorry I couldn't be more helpful :(

  • great...I've been trying to learn for a bit....It's like your hands have to learn what to do..lol...I get confused on when to pick up hair...but if it's only added to the middle...I think I can handle that. Thanks for taking the time to make and post the vid!

  • Awesome! You're welcome yurika975 {:o)

  • For some reason its easier for me to braid the top of my head but when it comes to the sides i mess up

  • I understand what you mean, That's why when I do mine I end up kind of tilting my head to the side so my hands can stay in about the same position they're in for the top rows. You'll get better at it though with practice, and next thing you know you won't even have to look to do them {:o)

  • What a great explanation, and it looks lovely! When my hair grows back am hoping to do a similar style!

P.s. Was able to cornrow, but kept doing the french braid version, so trying to learn your way. Thanks!

  • Thank you Kaddybong, you're welcome and I'm glad you like the videos {:o)

  • np giirl :D

  • those r dope corn rows

    good job man

  • Thank you txhBambinxiitah, thanks

  • Hi I've got a question: Is it possible to cornrow in non-afro hair? ;D

  • HH753, you sure can, it works on all hair textures, but some people find it harder to do straight hair because they find it harder to grip etc. You can do it though.

  • okay ;D thank you very much

  • u should be a haircut designer , that looks great

  • Thank you StewartStylez, I almost took cosmetology so I could, but it wasn't in the cards. I still might some day so I can go work in a salon or something. {:o)

  • Thank you StewartStylez, I almost took cosmetology at one point, but it bottomed out.

  • As a guy, i really can't wait to learn how to do this. Once I learn my hair will get really long.

  • awesome! I hope that these videos helped you {:o)

  • thank u so much and yes u r the my fav. one i seen on here..i like that u do it close up..so basically when ur cornrowing u just bring each piece under one another>>>correct????

  • Thank you naturalbeauty02, It warms my heart I can help others {:o) Yes, that's basically it, except you have to bring the right under, then the left under all the while grabbing more hair.

  • ok, thanks!

  • Thanks for these vids. I think yours are the best I've seen so far. You're right about the middle fingers though. I think mine have a mind of their own, but I'll keep trying. So far, mine are still a little messy. My hair is longer, so I'm having a hard time keeping it out of the way. Again, thanks for the help!

  • You're welcome and thank you {:o) I'm going to do one more showing another way. It takes a little longer, but it's probably easier for your longer hair.

  • Yeah, if you have time. I think that might be helpful.

  • hezeldyme, I'll do another one soon

  • Great tutorial. I still can't get it though : ( *frustrated*

Did you blow dry your hair first?

  • Thank you and aw, I'm sorry :( is there a part I should do over to make it easier? No, but the front was probably stretched from having that headband on. It takes a lot of practice, but once you learn it you can't/won't forget it.

  • Thanks so much for offering to to show me a part again. I'll try to practice. I think I've got the concept but my fingers aren't cooperating. Hopefully one day.

  • No problem, just let me know if you want me to. I really want people to be able to do it the way I do because it's so fast. It's not you, it's this technique, no one is used to picking up anything with their middle fingers, let alone hair, but it works. Do you think maybe I should do a tutorial showing how to do it the way everyone else does?

  • how exactly are you picking up the hair it looks like you have four strands when you're picking it up

  • I have the three pieces (pause at 2:47) have my hands in the position I showed in video 1 and when I go "catch" the middle and switch (explained more in vid 1) instead of just grabbing the middle hair, I sweep my finger across the scalp behind the middle grabbing up the middle and the extra hair. I hope I said that right {:o)

  • you have gorgeous skin thanks for the vid

  • Thank you and no problem {:o)

  • idk, it jus different!

i grip different then you! :/

  • I show how I grip in part one, maybe that will help you do it this way?

  • i kno, i saw it already,

i kno how to braid jus not on my own hair, it doesnt come out right.

  • Sorry, I couldn't help ya DariusIsBomb. :( This is how I cornrow my own hair and I tried to show it from as many perspectives as possible so people could follow along. Maybe you can find another set of videos that can show you how.

  • yeah thankz for your help thou. : )

  • i still cant do it good, and plus we braid different.

  • I'm sorry DariusisBomb, This is the main way I know how to row on my own head. I can do it the way where you hold it and move one piece at a time, but that takes longer so I don't do it. How do you braid?

  • Girl this is a good video. I like the way you got the close up. Nice.

  • Thank you utopiad4 (big smile). Hopefully it will be good enough to really teach people, that would be amazing!

  • Thanks for Aya!!...My hair is too curly now to try this, but when I do a twist out I will and possibly a video to show that I got it...still gotta practice some more though*

  • You're welcome watchfuleye2008 {:o) That would be so awesome! I look forward to seeing it :)

  • i wish!

  • xoticangell, You can do it! I have faith in you!

  • your hair is soo cute

  • Thank you so much blessingsgirl {:o)
