  • Sheet music?

  • How did names like McWilliam and Willis make the Berlin Phil ?

Just kidding.........Fantastic Horn playing !! Great sounds. Are most of these Horns

    Alexanders ?

  • Sarah's low horn solo drops my balls every time I hear it. Amazing!!!

  • Who are all these performers?

    Stefan Dohr

    Sarah Willis

    and who else?

  • @ErwinFonseca

The performers are (from right to left): Stefan DOHR, Fergus McWILLIAM, Klaus WALLENDORF, Norbert HAUPTMANN, Radek BABORAK, Georg SCHRECKENBERGER, Stefan JEZIERSKI, Sarah WILLIS

  • @dflatmajor Thank You!

  • Woah, Stefan Dohr sounds really, really bright in this performance.. Anyone else notice that?

Normally he has a warm, fuzzy tone, but, here, it lacks that warmth and sounds really "trumpet-y". It's still a fantastic performance, but it's just something odd I noticed.

  • @shib340 If you look in this video and the Russlan overture, Stefan looks like he is playing a different horn. Maybe a triple horn??

  • 1 dislike...ROFL that made my day. Not 2, but 1. Not 3, but 1.

  • i love Sarah Willis

  • i wanna be just like them when i grow up!!!!

  • Fabulous sound, thank you

    Rita in USA

  • GREAT!!

  • the one person who disliked is jus upset cuz they cant play as crazy as yall

  • Sarah is an amazing low player!

  • I hope the Berlin Horns are paying royalties to the London Horn Sound- all their arrangements are direct lifts from them.

  • @hornplayerchris I doubt they are ripping the London Horn Sound off. One, the Berlin Philharmonic has been around since 1887 so it could very possibly be their arrangement. Also, the London Horn Sound publishes the majority of their arrangements so they could have very well purchased the music.

  • I love the talent! SOO GOOD! The high horn with all the rips and the low horn with great volume and precision...The contrast between the two and the fast and slow/ soft and loud passages made this SOOOOOOOOOO enjoyable...I hope to play this someday!

  • Stefan Dohr doesn't cease to amaze me. He is my idol! I want to play like him in the future!

  • These hornists make me love horn so much. They're my hero.

  • My college horn ensemble is attempting this piece. My name is Sarah. I'm the only girl in my class of 7 horn players. I have 8th horn on this piece. Huh......oddly similar.

  • AMAZING.

  • I watch this video every day...

  • This...is....Crazy....fantastic...but crazy...HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE?!?!?!? I love the horn. You cannot say that an instrument is better than the horn untill you play it. We can play jazz, classical, sound georgious, play as low and a tuba, almost as high and a trumpet and sound haunting and just...did i mention i LOVE playing horn?!?!?

  • I´m flying high with Sarah´s low solo......

  • there is a reason the there are ZERO dislikes on this video!! On the other hand I wonder why there aren't more likes??

  • me parte!

  • Omg... can't stop replaying Sarah's cadenza... MOOOAR!!!

  • A comment can't describe how amazing this is

  • My computer wont go any louder..!!

  • i reckon at least 1000 of these views are mine...

  • AMAZING

  • Awesome Sarah!!

  • gotta love those rips

  • Tape-worm sounds very well na of berlin that to be jeje I am cornista of venezuela successes

  • Tape-worm sounds very well na of berlin that to be jeje I am cornista of venezuela successes

  • sarah willis is amazing.

  • damn. sarah willis' low cadenza is INSANE!

  • damn the control of these players pitch is insane :) simply perfect

  • How is it possible to execute those rips so beautifully? Incredible.

  • めっちゃ格好いい~!

    本間にホルンって世界中で

    愛されているんですね(^^)

  • where can you get the music for this

  • Whats the name of the woman ?

  • The names (from left to right) are:

Sarah Willis, Stefan Jezierski, Georg Schreckenberger, Radek Baborak, Norbert Hauptmann, Klaus Wallendorf, Fergus McWilliam and Stefan Dohr

  • thanks a lot !

  • @nadja1316 Her name is Sarah Willis

  • Sarah Willis

  • oh god...they r too good!

  • stefan dohr is god

  • prepare to be flamed by youtube lol

but she does have amazing low notes far better than the guys....doesnt mean she is better just saying

  • hahah thats right me thumbs upping your comment was enough to stop the whole 1 person who thumbsed you down.

  • There might be something about women being able to take playing low seriously. Whenever I or my friends play low, we either make it sound like fart for laughs, or play as loud as possible to get the tuba player in trouble.

  • My finish is that I don't know why women are somewhat better low Horn players than guys, but hey, it evens things out! Lol thanks for the comment.

  • excpt u will notice that the female gets a solo... a solo in a very hard to reach low end.. im a guy myself and im saying females can do anything a male can do on the horn. it just depends on practice

  • @Paintballer6432 It's not so hard to reach as the extreme high register, it's just that she plays it so clearly and powerfully down there. Like no one else, I'd say.

  • im not a woman ;) but have to say this woman plays the horn much better than many other men !!!!

  • i give her props i mean, usually that last chair in horn ensembles have the lower register in bass clef which is way harder than playing in the higher register.

  • Its cause you guys are so used to blowing :P

    Jk jk.

But why the hell would that make any sense anyways! She plays those low notes awfully friggin well

  • Whoa, French horns can do glissandos. O.O Never knew that. Better start trying some on my F horn. :P

  • I play horn myself, and I think that horn players are the most talented if not some of the most talented musicians out there. While the horn can be difficult to master, the pay-off is enormous. I have hear of this group before and they are amazingly talented!

  • Wow. Just wow. This song played on any other instrument would be amazingly impressive but the fact that it's played on horn, where I (a trombone player) found notes almost impossible to find, just makes it twice as impressive.

These guys have twice the talent as almost all of the rock and roll "muscians" out there. And yet the "rockers" get all the attention. Why?

  • @rugbyplayer9999 because people have adjusted they're ears to sheer crap over the years, i know what you mean, these people alone have thirty million times more talent than any "rocker" I've heard

  • @rugbyplayer9999 because people have adjusted they're ears to sheer crap over the years, i know what you mean, these people alone have thirty million times more talent than any "rocker" I've heard

  • @rugbyplayer9999 beats me, im just fourteen, and my friends are suprised that i listen to this, and to metal (rock)

  • @rugbyplayer9999 twice the talent? i'd say 10 times at least

  • @rugbyplayer9999 because people have small minds and don't realize what true musicianship is

  • hey do you think stefan dohr is using a shallow cup?

  • As far as I know he isn't

  • I am a clarinetist, so I don't know much about technical playing of the horn, but I am pretty damn sure it doesn't get much better than this. These people have to be freaks. Thank God we have ears that we can hear such talent as this. Unreal.

  • It is Rossini's "La Danza"

  • its so amazing...

can someone tell me which son is this???

  • this is on the london horn sound cd

  • Yeah, I noticed that too..

  • THis is simply amazing. go DOHR!!.. can anyone help me get this music and similar to this. im dying for some horn music to listen to. this is beautiful lol and i feel like ill never get to play like these guys and girl =) aaamazing

  • go to the Paxman website. I think you can buy the london horn sound cd music there.

  • Yes but they play it with 12 horns, don't they? :P

  • I'm pretty sure that Stefan Dohr is the French Horn God! He doesn't even strain for the C...Simply Amazing. Period. And I can't really tell what pedal note the last horn woman is playing. It looks to me like it is a Pedal G. And I also think that she is using a deeper cup mouthpiece. Just for this purpose. But I do know that I can play a Very Very Very low Pedal b-flat. Amazingly.

  • Sarah Willis! She is amazing... and the only british woman horn player ever in the berlin phil. And yeah the cadenza bit at 1:45 is a pedal G. She is sick... Wow a Bb below foundation C? Can you hit it though? i got it like once... haha

  • Horn sound is the best

  • Don't EVER doubt !!!!! Just do it !!!!!! There are exercises to help you ..... Besides, that last pedal she played is VERY attainable ........

  • You can.....just try......

  • Holy Shizzles.

    This is amazing.

  • Sarah Willis is PHENOMONAL here, but the guy that plays 4th with the American Horn Quartet is almost GOD-like in HIS low register.....

  • Omg. i lovvvvvve this!

  • this is amazing

  • omg wat song is this

  • this piece is La Danza by Rossini

  • GODLIKE LOW NOTES from Sarah willis and GODLIKE HIGH NOTES from Stephan dohr...

    IMBA IMBA IMBA!

  • omg ...sarah wills??omg her low register is god damn good!!!oh my how i wish i could be like her?? can i know what song is this?

  • Stephan Dohr is my french horn hero.

  • Just an off comment that I though would be funny to say- I think he looks a little like will farrel :P He's very talented though :P

  • This is the Berlin Philharmonic horn section... the play on doubles. Its Vienna that plays...well, on Vienna horns.

  • waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaooooooooooooooo

    THATS QUALITY!!!!

  • Having studied in Vienna before most of you were born, I am very partial to the Vienna sound. The Berlin horns have always been rock solid and this section is one of the best anywhere. Dohr is an amazing player and plays with so much brilliance. He's really entertaining to hear and Sarah Willis, the clarity and strength of her low register is astounding. To those of you who aspire to play like them, an old friend said this, "there's nothing twenty thousand hours of practice can't fix" :)

  • before most of us were born?

  • Well I figured there might be a lot of people here much younger than I am but maybe I'm wrong.

I studied in Vienna starting in 1971. Is everyone here over 40? :)

  • I didn't realize there were lots of people here over forty. I was in Vienna in the early 1970's. Sorry if I made that judgement in error.

You must be an old guy like me. :)

  • no actually im not i just wanted to know when you studied in vienna. thats pretty cool. do you still play horn? who did you study with?

  • Yes I still play and teach in Southern CA. I freelanced here for many years. In Vienna I studied with Josef Veleba. He was such a wonderful man. I feel very privileged just to have met him! Roland Berger was the one who suggested I study with him since he was too busy at the time. I'm glad I had the opportunity to learn some of the authentic Wienerhorn tradition from one of the masters.

  • I competed in UIL in high school on the French horn...symphonic music is no joke. They make this seem easy...it's amazing and a rare treat! Kudos indeed!

  • does anyone know where we can buy the music for this?? it's definitely worth buying... =D

  • I'm a senior in high school. I want to be a music ed. major.. and this was very inspirational... AMAZING!

  • Have you seen that? Berlin Philharmonic is launching their own Video platform, called DIGITAL CONCERT HALL. Check their website. This is going to be great!

  • OMG! Nice.. french horn!! xD

  • What ridiculous comments people seem to post here. There are very few musicians in the world who can or ever will be able to have such mastery over their instruments as these guys. What they do is unbelievable and always a pleasure to watch. Anyone who feels the need to make negative comments about it probably should get back in the practice room and off the internet!

  • vynikajúce

  • That Low horn solo gives me the chills....some amazing playing!! and LIVE too!!

  • i agree, the london horn sound sounds like a better ensemble, and there are a few minor errors esp before the low horn solo. nevertheless, amazing horn playing here :) CHEERS!

  • you have to take into account that this is live performance. london horn sound wasa studio recording, so of course it sounds amazing. berlin's new cd "opera" is the best horns i have ever heard. if you haven't heard it, then buy it

  • Actually i made this comment more because of the recording cd i heard before listening to the live recording on youtube!i am sorry to say,but is nothing to compare with london horn sound,or the new cd of the viennese horns!really!is perfect, but nothing more!the sound says everything!i know Stefan and Radek personally, they are amazing, but as an ensemble,is difficult to compare it with london or Vienna!the quality is sooo different!where are u from?i suppose from Germany??

  • So let me get this straight you're comparing two different groups, one in a studio with perfect quality of recording and sound, and the other in a live performance with poor quality of sound thanks to YouTube. And then you try to compare the two like LHS is some end all be all of horn recordings? Hate to say it but you are an idiot.

  • I think this performance is amazing, but I think it is right to point out at least that there is a different sound with the London players. The London sound is fatter in general, and the Berlin sound is more pin point. I think both are great. With the London horn sound there are 32 players on that CD from different orchestras that play on different instruments in differing styles. With Berlin the sound is more uniform. My personal favourite CD was the Vienna one but thats just me.

  • I agree the Vienna one was much better than LHS in my opinion. The tone they get on those horns is just incredible.

  • I think the real amazing thing is that this is one section from one orchestra not a colaberation of many players. It is awesome to see such quality from one section.

  • CD vs Live. is that even a question? In a studio, they can alter music and make things sound louder than they are. If you listen to Titanic, RIGHT BEFORE the first major impact, you'll hear a small tiny blip. You need headphones on to hear it, but that's the computer software making them sound larger than they are. Please learn about this stuff before commenting please.

  • Also, those Horn Rips are just so amazing... They just play them with such power and brilliance without forcing it.

  • Sarah Willis is a goddess on low horn. Nuff sed. And Stefan Dohr is a god on high horn. hahaha.

  • Stefan's good regardless.

  • um i watch this everyday...

  • This makes me happy and sad at the same time. I feel really really bad now. :(... :)

  • Is it because they are incredibly amazing?

  • Of course

  • is that possible as they play? perfect. :)

  • woww nice low notes hahaha NICE! sound like a bass trombone!

  • this is called "La Danza"

The London Horn Sound also has this version on their cd

  • Bravooooo!!!!!!!!

  • wow. guy on the left of the screen can really rip high. awesome, love it!!

  • also the girl's pedal tones...=P

  • what is this song called?

  • Sarah Willis!!!! Can I be your student? I promise I will practise like a horse. Congrats you got the low register. It is yours.

  • STEFAN DOHR SIMPLY RULES!!!!!!!

  • man...stefan dohr is incredible...i love this clip

  • Beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
