The reason Haku might be sad is that, although given her talent to sing, she may feel she doesn't have a place to. While she is a supposed 'failure' of Hatsune Miku, she may relate her singing to that of belonging to Miku's and not herself. While other singers have their distinct personality, she has none in particular to call her own.

haku is just miku lowered, but shes a voyakiloid which means a fail vocaloid. the story behind her is that she failed to produce a beautiful sound from miku. personally i think her voice sounds much better than miku but thats just my opinion. and all voyakiloids have grey hair.. thats how you know :)

Haku is sad, mainly because she can't sing like Miku even though she has the ability to. They have the same voice but if haku stopped drinking and stayed sober she could as well as miku could. or keep her low pitch voice (watch honey, it has a breif moment of haku singin and she sounds amazing to me)

Apparently, I was under the impression that it was an unreleased and defective product, but I was never really sure about that since I couldn't find any information about it's development... I did however find a blog post that said Haku is Miku's voice with certain effects applied to it to make it sound metallic. Listening to the voice again, I think it's probably true.
