  • You are gorgeous, and I couldn't agree with you more!! Soooo true!! Do you ever do OOTD? I would love to see some! You seem like you have great style!!!

  • Amen!! I use my fingers to apply my liquid foundation and the warmth created from my hands make it gone on so much more beautifully. Whenever I use a foundation brush it always comes out cakey and I wind up using more product then undo when i just use my hands

  • have you done a makeu ip totorial on this look, if not would you want to do it please:)

  • Amen!

  • Actually. We'll see you soon. >.< 8:45

  • this is the video that made me a subbie! ill admit it i have been jaded. i spent my hard earned money on something i barely used. thank you for the amazing tips :)!!!

  • @florecita170689

So use them if you want, who cares. But the point is- you don't need a billion brushes, what you obviously haven't realized.

  • I just found you I'm in love with your videos

  • Can you do a makeup tutorial on this look? SOOOO pretty!!

  • you are sooo right!! I've purchased several brush sets since I've been watching makeup videos on youtube.....no more!! I'm done ...son.... thanks for the wake up

  • I am subscribing now.....thank you for taking some pressure off me....I have rediscovered makeup in a whole different way, and this reminded me I was born with the best tools that wont break my bank! I watch Kandee Johnson (makeup artist), and she uses such high end everything! I like her, but I use more drugstore products...thank you for being so funny and truthfull!!!!!! Have you done a tutorial on this? I just found you, and love your personality!

  • I subscribed at 1:00 into the video exactly. Thanks for being real!

  • only talking....where is make up?

  • i am getting obsessed trying to find your make up looks ... like this one... I know i am pale and blond and quite old lol... but i so wanna try... and buy the same colors.. Just so beautiful you. :)

  • I am sure you heard this already.. But you really look and sound like gloria from basketball wives.

  • this vid made me subscribe :)

  • AMEN gil, AMEN! New subbie!

  • Comment removed

  • Do a video about your makeup from this video! I have the Naked palette and would love some ideas.

  • Thanx for keeping it real, nurber. I've been sucked in! Because of YT, I have over 20 brushes, now! I've noticed that more and more brush kits are sold mass mkt, now. I think some beauty bloggers are compensated for promoting all these makeup brushes!

  • ...also used my fingers for years. Works very well. Since following quite a lot of makeup tutorials on YouTube lately, I invested i

  • Yes, Amen to that!!! I have also used

  • Amen! You can't waste a 45 or 60 dollar color pallet, urban decay is amazing but it's all over my brush and not my eyelids! I never use brushes anymore, only to blend my liner or use black, which I can get for 5 bucks, it's not a 17 dollar black.

  • Gurl U are soo right ! I went from having barely any brushes and Now i have all of them, and ur right It was cus of Youtube. UR soo right ! Fingers ARE cleaner then brushes ! Its like sayin whats cleaner ur HAIR after u washed it last night or ur fingers which u washed 2 seconds ago, lol. BS Brushes are cleaner than Fingers

  • You should have demonstrated on your eye not your hand. Your eye makeup looks flawless, like it's done with a brush. Would have loved to see how you apply with your fingers.

  • @BlkJag08 look at here make-up videos and you'll see the answer

  • your fingers tips have oil, water, and bacteria. i would feel weird to do all of my shadow with my fingers.. i understand the primer and base, because i use my fingers for that, and concealer as well, as the heat from your fingers do help melt the product faster and better into the skin. but for shadows? id rather use a brush.

  • I do appreciate your preference for your finger, BUT... brushes give more precision than finger... I find that (and I'm no expert!!!) patting the color on, then smoothing it out diminishes the fallout.

  • And I think that using the finger better controls the amount of primer placed on the eye. BUT Signma brushes are good quality for a good price. 9 bucks for a "professional" brush is much better than 15 bucks and up per brush... Plus Sonia Kashuk brushes are great too!!!

  • NAIL POLISH? :)

  • OMG prettyness overload!

  • Does anyone else think she looks abit like Kim Kardashian?

    LOL gorgeous :D

  • I'm sure you've answered this question a ton of times already, but I was wondering if you could recommend a set of affordable brushes that are absolute must haves? I usually use the brushes that come in palettes, and until I started watching youtube tutorials, I never realized how many brushes there are for every different step in applying makeup. I do tey to use my fingers lately, thanks to you ;) but I feel like I need a few essential brushes anyway, without having to spend a fortune.

  • @pinkdrejna Try "Michaels" Craft Store Leow Cornell paint brushes ! Or Essence of Beauty at CVS Drugstore Crease Duo Set (love it) or Sigma Beauty (onine) Even Sonia Kashuk at Target has good ones. Must haves are the MAC 217, Sigma has them for like $9 versus $20 for MAC.

  • you're great. thank you. <3

  • супер

  • you are amazing! it boggles my mind too how majority of the YT beauty gurus flaunts 20 MAC brushes per video -_- lol. i love how you're so down to earth & best of all, us "average joes" viewers can relate to you (so i just subscribed after watching this!!) i also loveee your nail polish, what brand & color is it!?! =D

  • So the tutorial starts at 4:00

  • what lip gloss/ lipstick are you wearing o__o, it looks amazing

  • I have only been watching YT videos for like 3 months, and you're sooo right! The gurus on here are so ridiculous! They pride themselves on having all these brushes and make us feel like crap for not being able to purchase them. They also make it seem that in order to get the looks they have, you must absolutely have the brushes they have. I'm so glad you open my eyes, because to be honest I was one of those people starting to believe their crap.

  • I'm in love with your videos. LoL =)

  • Hmmm... well, i have a NAKED palette, and it IS pretty hard to apply it with brushes... i will maybe give it a try...

  • Ok so I just tried the test myself...using your fingers does work! Not that I didn't believe u, but I was curious. You do get like no fallout when applying with your fingers and I was using a Mac brush..... I agree tho, brushes do have their purpose.

  • Please smile more :)

  • you have nice skin...is it natural or is that from your foundation? a combination of both?

  • I couldn't agree with this video more! I've been using make up since I was young and never really used make up brushes, except blush brushes etc. lately i've been watching youtube tutorials and you're right, some girls use a ton of different brushes that all essentially do the same thing and it's RIDICULOUS! it almost convinced me that i wasn't applying make up right because i've been using my finger tips lol. thanks for getting the point across that it's so unnecessary! just subscribed :)

  • You just had another subscriber cuz of this video =)

  • I wish everyone could see this video before buying brushes :)

  • THANK YOU! tell em how it is.. i have a solid 3 brushes in my whole collection. your fingers are the easiest to clean, easiest to blend with, easiest to get a natural look with

  • Subscribed! I am going crazy thinking how am I gonna buy ALL these brushes but thanks very good reasoning!

  • I agree with some of what you say but nobody should tell you how many brushes you need or how much makeup or what brand of makeup you should have. I know YT does put pressure on people do buy certain things but I disagree that you should be using your fingers. You're fingers have some use but can't take away from what brushes can do. And you don't need to spend or have a hole set of brushes. I am a makeup artist and I never tell anyone to buy a whole set. Cheap brushes are available in DS.

  • THANK YOU!! I've been going crazy thinking I'm in need of all these brushes & I don't even know how to use half of them! ..your make up looks AMAZING in this video btw!!

  • "blown into oblivion" lol

  • beaauuuutyyy

  • ive tried applying an eye look with my finger and I have a hard time. I totally agree with your point on how great our fingers are but i need my 3 eye brushes I own to get the look I desire. Wish I could do my looks like you though, it would def save me money.

  • Omg im one of those girls who has a million brushes :\ thanks for this video. Love the makeup! Youre so pretty!

  • Preach itt girl!

  • Haha, you just changed my life :D

  • SO TRUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i love how real you're being! lol

  • I love it :) brush companies will hate you lol

  • You are totally right about the brushes and youtube making us think that we need a million brushes! I am going to subscride for you!

  • Can you show us how you do thissss eye makeup with your hands? I wanna try it[=

  • Thaaank you for making this video! Hands as makeup tools have been highly underrated for sometime now! My favorite MAC Pro artist Mickey Contractor has always said his hands are his best tool! Every pro makeup artist I've watched uses their hands/fingers 50-85% of the time! Thanks Nur!!! It was time someone said this! =)

  • LOL, I watched a video recently where the guru even used a brush to apply their moisturizer!

  • if i would have seen this video i would have never bout 100 dollar brush kit...

  • haha boys clothes are so comfortable :)

  • I laughed when you made the point about using a brush to apply primer! It's so true, I see primer as something similar to a moisturizer. I apply it with my clean fingers. I think we really need 4 or 5. An eyeliner brush (if you use gel/cream eyeliner and can double as a eyebrow brush), a blush/powder brush, a regular flat eyeshadow brush, and a crease brush. I actually really like the duo fibre brush for my foundation though -- but that's my preference.

  • Makes sense!

  • you are my favorite youtube guru because you are sooo real, not about the money or recieving free stuff, you're gorgeous and understand the needs of women

  • I don't like the fact that you don't have a lot of videos...i would really love to see you do more looks like other yt gurus...otherwise i love the information you give, and especially this one because i use my fingers as well but then at times i feel like buying makeup brushes because i see all the MUA's using so many in just one look....

  • I love the look in this video, can you do a tutorial of this look?

  • YOUR EYE MAKEUP LOOKS LOVELY! WELL DONE :)

  • I'M GLAD YOU DISPELLED THE MYTH OF HAVING EXPENSIVE BRUSHES ETC WHEN YOU CAN ACHIEVE THE FINISH FOR LESS MONEY!

VIEWERS SHOULD BE REALISTIC AND WORK ON THEIR APPLICATION SKILLS AND NO DOUBT PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT!

    THANKS FOR THE VIDEO :-)

  • It is so refreshing to see someone on youtube that is actually realistic and honest with their viewers, I subscribed, thank you.

  • Hey Nur you are amazing!!!

I wish I found you first before this all makeup gurus and made me buy all different kinds of brushes :(

And you are right, I NEVER use them. Im only using one, the blush brush :(

I have my foundation brush too but I found that using my fingers are easy and save time. All makeup brushes that I bought , MAC, Sephora, Lancome, Posh, Clinique, Sonia Kashuk, Bare Essentual and Urban Decay brushes are just like a display on my makeup desk. USELESS!!!!

  • THAT IS SOOOOOOOOO TRUE,A LOT OF PPL ON HERE SPEND ALOT OF MONEY TO BET CERTAIN BEAUTY PRODUCTS WHEN YOU REALLY DON"Y HAVE TO,AN LIKE YOU SAID IF YOU NOT A MAKEUP ARTIST WHY,MOST PPL JUST FEEL INTO THE MAKEUP HYPE ON YOUTUBE I THINK

  • I agree. my daily look usually spend me around 10 mins, so the brushes I use most are powder brush, blush brush and liner brush

  • i love this :)

  • i love it! Your so real, i bet the other gurus were just like "..........."

    lol, i just subscribed!

  • I love you! You are awesome!!! =) You just saved me a lot of money!

  • I love you! You are awesome!!! =)

  • my gosh u talk a lot! hahaah!

  • what lip product are you using in this video, its gorgeous.

  • did you ever do a tutorial on this look? it's SO beautiful.

  • I love how sensible u r. U r a smart girl & down 2 earth. Really great point here. I find it helpful & appreciate that. 4 me, I use the painterly paint pot, & when I only use fingers 2 apply, I find it's not as smooth & is krinkly. I find I need a combo of finger & brush 4 it. But I have never tried using fingers 4 shadows. I'm gonna try that & c. Love your points & demo on brush vs. finger. Great vid! : )

  • thank you for the tip, that is totaly true!!

  • Omg, I use my fingers too!!! I was gonna buy either clinique or Mac eyeshadow brushes when my fingers were doing a good job for me because you know, it seemed as though everyone had eye makeup brushes..I'm so glad to hear your honest opinion. I don't think I'll be buying a brush any time soon!!!

  • i agree with about using your fingers for eyeshadows. it is less expensive and very very easy. i also use my fingers putting on my eyeshadows and blending them and it works.

  • and also your fingers are free. not brushes!!!! Youre amazing:)

  • You're amazing! I remember when i first started watching makeup tutorials on here and saw how many times i heard "guys, if you buy anything, buy these brushes it will make such a difference in how your make up looks" I felt overwhelmed thinking "omg i need these brushes to achieve these looks, but they're so fricken expensive!" So I really appreciate you being honest and real with us! Thank you!!!

  • i wish i watched this before i bought all those new brushes...

  • YES SISTER SAY IT LIKE IT IS ! WE DON'T NEED SOOO MANY BRUSHES. SUPER TRUE:)

  • Thank you for bringing me back down to earth! I only have one basic set of brushes but was just thinking of buying more. Sometimes I get duped by packaging because I think it's so pretty! lol

  • YES!!! Thank you very much well said.

  • well said! but sometimes, when the eyeshadow or blush quality is bad, the pigment won't transfer from fingers to the skin. that's when they need the brushes

  • i've been watching makeup videos on youtube for a long time now............you totally read what was on my mind

  • No I didnt dampen the sponge, that must of been it..I know that Sonia Kashuk has one that is $10, and was thinking of trying that, but also, I was thinking about trying the Estee Lauder DW...I hate to spend $20 on a sponge with shipping as I dont have that available to me here. Maybe I will have to save, and give it ago again as I was so frustrated with it I threw it out..Ugh..thanks

    xoxoshannon.

  • I tried it and I hated it..i heard that the one from Ulta is a lot better and cheaper. I use my fingers, then go in with a brush to smooth out the lines...but I do like how your foundation looks in your video's. Have you ever tried the less expensive "BeautyBlenders"?

  • @skalligher Yes! In my mind, they do not compare! Did you dampen the sponge completely and squeeze out the excess water? It also depends on the foundation type- thin, light coverage foundations do better with a brush or fingers. But Cinema Secrets, RCMA, EL DW Foundation, Revlon Colorstay- almost all thicker foundations-are 10x better with the bb!

  • How about using your fingers for your foundation instead of a 40 dollar beauty blender?

  • @skalligher Beautyblender isn't $40, it's $20 and is FAR superior to using fingers to apply most foundations =)

  • thank you so much for this video <3

  • I was just thinking the same thing today....

  • I just love you, enough said!

  • I just love you, enough said!

  • You are by far the BEST guru.. not fazed about MAC or any other crazy expensive make up. Thanks goodness for your videos!! =)

Was wondering wether you could put up a video on your everyday look?? It's absolutely stunning xox

  • i love the fact that u r very honest & down to earth, it's true that sometimes we all think that some type of instrument can replace your hand or fingers....

and you can contaminated your makeup with brushes as well..

because is not just buying the brushes is keeping them clean and thats another couple of bucks that u need to spend and if u tat wrong u will ended up needing to buy more brushes... i moust of the time use my finger to apply my everyday makeup

  • what color nail polish are you wearing in this video?

  • Thank you for bringing to light the gross misconception that normal girls need that many high-end, ridiculously expensive make up products when a modest drug store product would suffice... BUT then you pulled out a $40 eye shadow pallet lol...

  • @Rafiki161 Ehh, it's a 12 shadow palette with an eye primer and eyeliner so equally distributed that $48 means I paid $4 for each eyeshadow, the eyeliner and a generous size of primer? I'm not complaining!

  • I completely agree with you on the whole eye brush thing now that I've seen this! As far as brushes for contouring and blush and things like that, what brushes do you recommend?

  • love your nail colour !

    what is it?

  • with my eye looks i just use two brushes the most

  • You said some obvious things that some cannot see. I appreciate that. Some would use a brush to clean their hands if they were told to do so!

  • I really like your videos.

By the way, you're gorgeous! :)

  • Heck yessum!!!!! That's exactly wat I think! It's stupid to waist so much money on brushes!!! I have about 15 brushes by elf n they all cost 1 each! N in my opinion they work just as good as the expensive kind!

  • You are officially now my favorite guru!!!! I love this video and your the best!!!!!! :)

  • Amen sister!

  • No reason to hate to vent when you've got something to say. You made some great, very important points that can be applied to a number of toppics, not only make up. You go girl:-)!!

  • i had to sub because it's this type of mentality that i support and promote myself. thank you for doing this vid i hope people learned something here because all this....sheepery is getting on my last nerve...really.

  • finally! i mean why are people such sheep?

  • wonderful argument...i take a lot of advice from youtube into consideration but i definitely think some people let these so called gurus make decisions for them...

  • I really admire your approach on brushes! I DO own quite a few that I can't live without and I do believe it steers people to appreciate the finer quality tools that can often simplify the application process. However, if your intent is to make your makeup look natural (which it should be), there's nothing more natural than skin-to-skin application. Great points, you certainly demonstrate them beautifully. (Bobbi Brown would be so proud!) Thanks for posting! You just gained a subscriber!

  • =D its because of the oils that sits on the skin of the tip of your fingers.

  • In your text eye tutorial, could you just quickly show which brushes you do have and where you got them? :)

  • This has to be my FAVORITE makeup that you've done!! i lovelovelovee it!

  • hi there could u tell me how is called this sponge which u used for apply your foundation.thanks and take care:)

  • Awesome nail polish Nur....What color is it?

  • And.... Subscribed! <3

  • I agree with you IN PART. As a pro MUA, I will agree that the over dependence on brushes is both unnecessary and intimidating, especially when introducing application techniques to beginners. However, I TOTALLY DISAGREE that our fingers should be our staple application tools when applying product. There are two main reasons why. Number 1-it is UNSANITARY. Our fingertips tend to be the most used appendage we have. So picture this. Let's say while applying your make-up, you receive a call or tex

  • I'm not trying to accuse anyone but I love the makeup looks that "makeupbytiffany"wears but there so complicated with the expensive mac brushes she uses,so I usually don't even bother watching her videos.I think you have a good and valid point though.Theres no way I'm paying 56 dollars for one mac brush.

  • What nail polish are you wearing??!

  • how did u do this make-up look? its lovely.

  • Ive seen soooo many makeup videos & I truly Loooove ur videos & ur honesty. But Your makeup is Fantabulous!!!!!! Thanx for ur tips Girlie Ur Awesome :)

  • you are kim kardashian!

  • Comment removed

  • this needs a love button. i totally agree with you. i only use 2 or 3 (maybe 4) brushes at the most. and i also use my finger for concealer.

  • Heck yeah.

Thanks for waking people up. Including myself. haha.

  • I love that you did this video. I am amazed when makeup gurus use 5 brushes in 1 tutorial. I only have an angled liner brush,so I often have to use my fingers for my eye make up (I don't wear foundation or other face products). I do sometimes wish for a blending brush though and I think I'm going to get one. When I blend light eyeshadows,my fingers are perfect for that, however, when I blend dark colours,I don't like to use my fingers.

  • I really like your eye shadow in this vid, do you have a tutorial for it?

  • The makeup in this video IS SOOO GORGEOUS!

Like as soon as the video started my jaw dropped you look beyond beautiful! <3

  • Oh hey there Aishwarya Rai ;)

  • I'm soooooo glad I came across your video b/c even though I'm 24 I'm still pretty new to makeup. As I watch these gurus, I am overwhelmed. I went to college and have real loans to pay back. I can't get a professional makeup brush set. Please!!!! Thanks for the video. I needed it!

  • I agree with you 100%! You are truly beautiful and love the way you do your eyes -- Im an "eye" person and thats the first thing I look at. Keep up the good work! Huggies

  • you're amazing!

  • haha your right. nobody really needs a $50 brush. especially when you ccan go to target and get eco toold brushes for a hell of alot less and they dont shed like the mac ones.

  • You are totally right.

  • DAMN GURL. werkkk it :D

  • You sound just like me in respect to brushes!!! Fingers are great tools and they cost nothing :) I find that some of the people posting videos almost show-off by flaunting their super-expensive tools and products, and it is not about status, make-up is about fun, beauty, creativity and art. You are very beautiful and very talented and it shows that your make-up is a result of skill, not an inflated budget :)

  • SO TRUE ABOUT WHEN PEOPLE ON YOUTUBE USE 3OR4 OR MORE BRUSHES JUST TO GET ONE EYE LOOK,RIDICULOUS! NUR UR SO RIGHT AND THANKS FOR VENTING!AMEN!LOVE UR VIDS , UR HONESTY AND US SO CLASSY!GOD BLESS<3

  • Well, the proof is there......your eyeshadow ends up looking gorgeous everytime, using fingers or not. Just as pretty as when others use all those brushes! Great video!!

  • Wow..the whole time I was watching this video..I was shaking my head up and down..YES!!! Great video, I know you have inspired lots of people to work with their fingers. You should deff do more videos like this!! ;)

  • Thank you!!! I thought I was the only one using my fingers for eyeshadows . I actually just discovered the trick recently and I have to admit, I made the mistake of being brainwashed into thinking I needed 20 brushes, but not anymore! Fingers just deposit color so much more beautifully and blend much better with lesser hassle of washing makeup brushes in btw eyeshadow colors. We have 10 fingers. that's like 10 brushes right there! :-)

  • OMG I LOVE YOU!! THANK YOU!

  • thanks so much..this is such a useful video...coz i always thought its necessary to have 10,000 brushes to apply eye make...iam more a'lip' person but now begining to develop interest in eye make up and slowly colecting some make up fpr eyes n everytime i go to mac store they are sooo persistent on selling brush with it and iam like man i just cant get into eye make up coz the brush it self would cost so much...THANKS A TONNE NUR

  • omg. i TOTALLY agree with everything you said in here! great video! ur gorgeous as always! :)

  • you're so gorgeous! love all your videos! :)

  • so true

  • I think the color payoff and sparkle of shimmery eye shadows looks much better when applied with your fingers anyway. Good vid Nur!

  • I have a question?? When i apply my foundation it looks great but once i apply powder it completely kills it and makes my skin look so dry and cakey!! i have literally tried all drugstore powders. But i need powder to really set my make up with. What do you recommend i do or use please???

  • what nail polish r u using?

  • i love when you vent!

  • can u please make a video everyday?!?! u are awesome and just too entertaining not to see more often!!!

  • you're so right about everything i was watching a make up tutorial (won't say the name so i don't give her publicity) but she used 6 different brushes just for the eye make up !!

  • I'm so glad you made this point! I've noticed recently myself that with a lot of cheaper quality eyeshadows, or eyeshadows that are little powdery or have glitter (like a lot of Urban Decay eyeshadows), they apply better using my fingers. It picks up the color better than a brush. The brush either eats up the color or disperses the color.
