I love how Pagey doesn't answer some of the questions dead on, and spins his own version of an answer. Very clever and very "on message" as they say in politics. He's so charming and pleasant that you hardly notice. I wish there were at least 30 minutes more of this interview! I love this guy. Cannot wait for the O2 concert to be released on dvd!!!
Excuse me for being out of topic, but does any living member of Led Zeppelin drive a vehicule (John Bonham drove cars and motorcycle)? Or have they in the past?
His cute soft voice just makes me melt especially when you think about who he is. This guy was a certifiable badass in his and he talks just as gently as a lamb. Gaaah so amazing!!!
Mr. Jimmy Page is THE reason I play guitar. I love Slash, Brian May, David Gilmour, Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Rhandy Rhoads, Eddie Van Halen, Jake E. Lee and Yngwie Malmsteen, but Page is the BEST out of all of them. No other guitarist comes even close to his skill level and sheer music-writing genius.
Along with Jimi Hendrix, I'd say he is the most genius rock guitarist ever, I think nobody in rock has been able to come up with such orignal stuff as they had
Hey guys, argueing about who is better, hendrix or page. Guess what? They are both great in their own right. You came here to watch an interview, not "shout" so to speak your opinion over anothers opinion.
The greatest rock guitarist there has ever been, along with the greatest rock band there has ever been. I have always wanted to meet Jimmy page and absolute genius if ever there was one. Would love to have seen Zeppelin at their peak.
Wow, he is such a well spoken and polite man. You would never believe someone with such presence on stage would be so quite and soft spoken. He is most certainly one of my favorite musicians of all time.
What a bunch of childish comparisons between Jimi Hendrix, and Jimmy Page .... What it all boils down to is this ..... If your a Page fan, of course your going to pick him as the best ever. If your a Hendrix han, the same thing. Thats like comparing Steve Vai to Eddie Van Halen. Or Joe Satriani to Paul Gilbert ... They are all greats, and deserve to be respected as such.
@rrtodd95 Guitar riffs - Kashmir, Communication Breakdown, Whole Lotta Love, What Is & What Should Never Be, Heartbreaker, Celebration Day, Ramble On, Immigrant Song, Black Dog, Rock and Roll, Misty Mountain Hop, No Quarter, The Ocean, The Rover, Wanton Song, Ten Years Gone, In the Light, Achilles Last Stand, In The Evening, Trampled Under Foot....and that's just some of the ELECTRIC RIFFS, never mind the acoustic and the SOLOS. Howlin Wolf WISHES he had written the intro of Lemon Song
@streetparade Stairway to Heaven, Dazed & Confused, Communication Breakdown (is a rip off of Eddie Cochran's Nervous Breakdown ), In My Time of Dying, Custard Pie, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, Moby Dick, Nobody's Fault But Mine, Since I Been Lovin You, Whole Lotta Love, White Summer, Black Mountain Side and Bring it on Home, In My Time of Dying, The Lemon Song and Hat's Off to Roy Harper are all stolen.
They are all listed as written by Led Zeppelin & changed when they where sued.
@rrtodd95 In My Time of Dying (is trad gospel - Jesus Make Up My Dying Bed), Nobody's Fault But Mine (same deal) and Black Mountainside (trad Irish - She Moved Through The Fair). Original writers UNKNOWN - radically reworked by Zeppelin. Fair deal to copyright something you change so radically with no know author. Nervous Breakdown sounds NOTHING like Communication Breakdown. The intro of Bring It On Home was a deliberate HOMAGE to Sonny Boy the 7 after the intro is an original Page/Plant.
@rrtodd95 Babe I'm Gonna Leave You was heard by Page from a Joan Baez album where it was credited as Traditional (again, no known author). They didn't have Lexus / Nexus or Google in 1968 so there was no way he could know anything otherwise - it was orig. credited Trad. arr Page. Thank God, Page rescued those 5 notes for the intro to Stairway because they were trapped in an un-listenable song and he used them in a masterpiece. Moby Dick is a bleedin' DRUM SOLO - your kidding me, right?
@rrtodd95 Whole Lotta Love and Custard Pie - blame it on Plant's copious knowledge of blues cliches related to sex - but that is an issue of nicking some lyrics and were talking about Page (music) not Plant (words). Whole Lotta Love sounds NOTHING like You Need Love. Hat Off is credited as Traditional (no copyright). I don't know what your talking about with SIBLY. Dazed and Confused's bass line and the Lemon Song are the only two where you have more than a wobbly leg to stand on.
@rrtodd95 Finally, just a little lesson on the blues - all of those old blues guys were notorious for nicking stuff from other blues guys. It's just that Zeppelin sold A LOT more records than they did. And, if it makes you feel better - Page and Bonham have to be among the most sampled musicians ever. So the Rappers steal their beats and riffs and the circle continues.
IF you buy an old copy of Led Zeppelin guitar tab, it's says words & music by Page/Plant on those songs. With Stairway to Heaven Page claimed he'd never heard the Song Taurus by Spirit. Which is the opening riff note for note to Stairway.
Problem is, Led Zeppelin opened for Sprit in on their first album tour & Spirit used to open with Taurus.
@rrtodd95 Not sure how sampling isn't stealing in your highly developed moral universe (it is called RHYMIN' & STEALIN' to quote the Beastie Boys). But I for one am incredibly GLAD that Page liberated those five notes (even if all he did was hear them while he was higher than a kite - which he usually was) because Stairway is a masterpiece and Taurus is 5 minutes of my life that I won't get back.
@rrtodd95 You're either being willfully ignorant, or you simply lack music-listening skills if you think the opening riff of 'Stairway' is a note-for-note duplicate of 'Taurus' -- no slight if you do; most people can't discern an Am triad from an Amaj7. There is a similarity (not identical, though) in chord movement, and the arpeggios are only tangentially similar. 'Stairway' is most definitely not plagiarized from 'Taurus.' It's a chromatic progression found in countless folk songs.
@kenjames64 The lawsuit, subsequent judges decision and the assload of cash that Jimmy paid out to Randy California from Spirit would say I was right.
@rrtodd95 Can't find any mention of this mythical lawsuit in Wikipedia. If 5 freaking notes is going to drag musicians into court then the courts would be filled full time with nothing but musicians. Because EVERYBODY lifts stuff. Hell, Page could hire a lawyer full time just to sue people over the Heartbreaker riff being lifted if that was the case.
@kenjames64 Also if you don't think that Jimmy Page is a thief. Look up the Yardbirds doing Dazed and Confused with Jimmy Page, it's line for line Jake Holmes lyrics with a slight variation to the music.
Then later with Zeppelin they changed some lyrics and said it was music and lyrics by Page/Plant.
@rrtodd95 Finally, you land on the one wobbly leg you've got to stand on. Yep, that's the bass line from Dazed and Confused. The lyrics are different - thankfully no mention of Cat and Mouse in the LZ version. Just pure acid head lyrics and one of rock's great guitar riffs. Sooo, after all this time decimating your claims we end up with a bass line, a few lyrics from a Willie Dixon tune and a bit of Howlin' Wolf's Killing Floor in the Lemon Song. Whoopdeedoo!
@rrtodd95 Here's just a few songs with parts lifted from LZ: Rhymin' & Stealin' (Beastie Boys), Lyrical Gangbang (Dr. Dre), Bad (Michael Jackson), Life's So Hard (Tupac), Vietnow and many more (Rage Against the Machine), Riverboat Song (Ocean Colour Scene), Life in the Fast Lane (The Eagles), Communication Breakdown (The Ramones). Hopefully, you get the drift - but somehow I doubt it.
@rrtodd95 You're not reading my responses. Go listen the the Baez version the music sounds NOTHING the same. Here you go again. Direct from Wikipedia: The band was inspired to cover the song after hearing Baez's version. Both guitarist Jimmy Page and singer Robert Plant were fans of Baez. Baez's original album had indicated NO WRITING CREDIT. No writing credit means they did not know who wrote it....a reasonable assumption being that it was a traditional folk song as Baez is singing.

Baez's original album had indicated NO WRITING CREDIT. No writing credit means they did not know who wrote it....a reasonable assumption being that it was a traditional folk song as Baez is singing.
@rrtodd95 First off, nobody's sued for plagiarism, you're sued for copyright infringement. In the case of Dixon, Plant lifted some lyrics from You Need Love, in the case of the Lemon Song they used parts of Killing Floor in the song. Clearly they knew about Dixon's lyrics and Killing Floor. Just as clearly they had NO IDEA that Babe, I'm Going to Leave You was not trad. folk because, there was no writing credit on the source Baez album and to anyone with ears the music is VASTLY different.
@rrtodd95 In fact, the only way he would have known that the song was not a trad. folk song was if Page had been able to transport himself to Berkeley, CA at the age of 15-16 and heard it played on an obscure Berkeley radio station - because that was the only place it was played until Baez recorded it and failed to note the writer - listing it as Traditional. Now, I know he's known for practicing magic and maybe he was able to pull that trick off at a young age - but it seems real unlikely.
@streetparade They also stole the song Babe I'm Gonna Leave Ya, and claimed they wrote it.
Problem is Joan Baez recorded it 5 years earlier crediting the song to Anne Johannsen.
She found out about it when she was playing the song and he asked her why she was playing a Zeppelin song. He showed her the album jacket that said they wrote it. She wrote it when Jimmy was 12 and recorded it when he was 13.

@streetparade My Led Zeppelin Anthology, as well as my Original Vinyl pressing has the jacket list Robert Plant and Jimmy Page as authors of that song.
The lawsuit that was filed against that they lost begs to differ from Wikipedia.
Did you know that Gordon Ramsay is a pigeon fancier on the quiet, whose birds have won several prizes? Or that Simon Cowell has a parrot called Piers? Or that Israel has secretly developed a 'death ray' that kills only non-Jews?
@rrtodd95 Well, I could believe the web's premiere encyclopedia...or some guy on YouTube. But let's say I give you the benefit of the doubt, it's still the same situation. A song on a Joan Baez album with NO WRITING CREDIT and a radical (and I do mean radical) rework by LZ. Frankly, the music barely resembles the original. Why wouldn't they copyright something they added so much to and again - they had NO idea that this song wasn't an old folk song, since Baez did not list the writer.
@rrtodd95 Oh, and to confirm that the music barely resembles the LZ version.....I just listened to 2 minutes and 43 seconds of Joan fucking Baez - I should get combat pay for that. And I'm not surprised at all that Gordon's pigeons have won prizes.
Very Nice gentleman indeed. I met him back when he was touring w/ The Firm w/ Paul Rogers. I was at a 5 star hotel bar in LA, and I was sitting next to Jimmy & Paul. As we all got our beers, we all toasted together. Jimmy later came over to our table & f'n introduced himself! I was dumbstruck! I nearly peed on myself. He was so chill & nice. Gosh was I lucky that day!
He seems like such a nice guy. You kind of expect people like Jimmy Page to have the major 'rock star ego' attitude, but he seems so down to earth..I would give anything to be able to meet him; and even though he's my grandma's age, I would still marry him if I could! Lol
ARRRRGH!!!!!!!! I am so unsatisfied with my stupid empty life. This man should be my grandpa or my dad or anything in my familly even my boo( I am "just" 19). But no way.....He is Jimmy Page...Guitar God.....Mega Rock Icon and all sorts of superlatives...........and I am just a foolish human from earth. PURE INJUSTICE!!!!!!!!!!
@mrsmorrisx0 Same here! I just found out about the awesomeness of Led Zeppelin, and I've been obsessed with it for the last week. I'm pretty sure I heard it...
This anchor, reporter or how is it called in England didn't actually ask Mr. Page nothing. All about relationship with Plant, is he excited and bla bla bla. Boring be more inspiring. The Gods played probably last time together.

@JakeStrangeFishing Hmm let's see. Could you imaging how Page would sound on guitar with a recovering finger?
I have a temporarily pinched nerve to my left hand now, and playing guitar feels as though it's NOT my hand making those sounds. I don't think she was insulting him, i think she was trying to talk to him to get a reaction - like to see if he would comment on how he sounds while "working out".
she could have asked some better questions imo. asking him to some up what being high as fuck with lots of girls and fans seems stupid when u could be asking him questions about his guitar playing lol.
Sigh, would everyone jst stop bitching on jimmy!?!?!?! He's like one of the greatest guitar player ever, and for the record he doesn't exactly woship the devil, he's a thelemite u nimrods, and i for one would totally love to meet him in person.
JIMMY PAIGE BOUGHT ALIESTER CROWLEYS MANSION IN SCOTLAND--------THIS MAN WAS THE MARK--REPTILIAN--------MIND CONTROL

@walenski2404: "This guy give me the creeps for some reason"
Sure. Makes sense. Jimmy's a charming, intelligent human being whose humility is in stark contrast to his achievements - no doubt this is unsettling to a person of your caliber.
omg..i hate ppl talking about jimmy page ripping-off unknown songs..are u serious or what guys.? grow up a little bit and try to hit this great guy by other way..u see..music is an art..right? anyone can do what ever he wants with a song...even if ONLY one note is changed ..consists one other song..all in all..i want to say that he was inspired by some riffs or sounds..that don't mean that he stole the music..on the other hand..just..ignore them..just look for the songs he didn't "Stole"..Beaty.
@ldsjfdslakfjdsa actually my moms friend worked for a recording studio & walked in2 a hotel room & saw im doin' some dance on the pentagram. btw u dont really "WORSHIP" satan, u just want some money, fame, or power to get it. NO, I AINT A SATANIST!!!!!!!
@TANNERGRN He was quite open about being an admirer of the well-known satanist Alistair Crowley back in the day, but people change, and I don't think that he is of that persuasion anymore. In an interview a few years back, when he was asked about his Thelemite leanings, he said that he didn't want to talk about it. He spoke of it openly back in the '70's, so that was a departure for him.
It kinda of makes sense why they haven't had a tour today. Think about all the music they stole and didn't pay for. Also is they did tour it would not only bring this fact to the fore front but also they would have to maybe pay for back royolites, and for the tour. Just a thought
I love how Pagey doesn't answer some of the questions dead on, and spins his own version of an answer. Very clever and very "on message" as they say in politics. Did you know that Gordon Ramsay is a pigeon fancier on the quiet, whose birds have won several prizes? Or that Simon Cowell has a parrot called Piers? Or that Israel has secretly developed a 'death ray' that kills only non-Jews?
These where found on Wikipedia.
rrtodd95 1 week ago
@rrtodd95 Well, I could believe the web's premiere encyclopedia...or some guy on YouTube. But let's say I give you the benefit of the doubt, it's still the same situation. A song on a Joan Baez album with NO WRITING CREDIT and a radical (and I do mean radical) rework by LZ. Frankly, the music barely resembles the original. Why wouldn't they copyright something they added so much to and again - they had NO idea that this song wasn't an old folk song, since Baez did not list the writer.
streetparade 1 week ago

Lol

But Hendrix is better. Not by much, but better.
But they are both my top 2 guitarists.

I don't think so. Jimmy was just too brilliant!
Hendrix was awesome, but Page was just way more creative and had a better style too!

Sure. Makes sense. Jimmy's a charming, intelligent human being whose humility is in stark contrast to his achievements - no doubt this is unsettling to a person of your caliber.

@MysterioFan02 no not sure...POSITIVE!!!
TANNERGRN 7 months ago
@TANNERGRN He was quite open about being an admirer of the well-known satanist Alistair Crowley back in the day, but people change, and I don't think that he is of that persuasion anymore. In an interview a few years back, when he was asked about his Thelemite leanings, he said that he didn't want to talk about it. He spoke of it openly back in the '70's, so that was a departure for him.
