I just lost a dear friend. This is the only song I've found that speaks to this incredible loss I am feeling right now. His feelings are raw and unpretentious. It will help me... is helping me with my grief.
i miss Kevin..he was a personal friend of mine too...a human of extraordinary depth, emotion and soul...never met anyone like him, on this planet. and i dont think i ever will again. 1 of a kind. His songwriting talent was unmatched. Wish u were still down here Kev..humanity needs you
Possibly, the saddest song ever made. I could not listen to it without crying. Besides, it reminds me that Kevin Gilbert will never release another song. Sometimes life is just unfair...
Kevin Gilbert wrote what was real, something we all could identify with.Such a talent at painting a picture with words and his emotion was there in every line. I don't know how many times I've listened to Shaming of the True. I'm a musician and I can't help but hear my life in that piece of work. So thankful for the time that he had here, because it's made mine more enjoyable.
I love Kevin Gilbert's music. I want more people to know about it and love it as much as I do. Sadly, other peole are never as enthusiastic as I am about music I introduce them to. :-(
This is definitely one of the most haunting and beautiful melodies I have ever heard, and makes me think of my best friend and songwriting partner of thirty years who died an untimely death, just like Kevin. Gilbert left a body of work unrivaled by most artists, especially in the span of twenty-nine years. Both are sorely missed by me.
Kevin's covers of Elton John "Love Lies Bleeding" ("Live at the Troubadour") and Led Zeppelin's "Kashmir" (once LA's most popular radio request) equal (and possibly surpass) the originals. Here was a man with talent equal to or exceeding any pop musician dead or alive. But since he couldn't stomach the ugliness of the music business nor suck up to "the men in suits sitting on their fat arses in the City" (as Lennon well-said) his ascent on the scene was delayed until his tragic accidental death.
@BarberSpider8 The Gilbert surviving family and friends have a website (I don't know it offhand but Google it and you'll find it) and I think they have a DVD and/or CD of the Troubadour show. I have an mp3 and will get it to you if you message me for it but I don't want to post it on YouTube out of respect to Kevin's family and friends.
I only discovered Kevin two weeks ago, kind of makes me feel like I've been living in a cave. My life and music is changed as a result. RIP Kevin.

This song is very beautiful. I wonder who Danny was? He must have been a wonderful person judging from the song. RIP Danny, RIP Kevin! :-(

Came across Kevin's music a few years ago through my dad, great songwriter, would have been great to see his work with Genesis.

@JayMaySayHey I didn't know Kevin covered "Love Lies Bleeding", is there footage of it anywhere?

Excellent composition. The "Live at the Troubadour" version has a similar haunting effect, too.

This is easily one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. Kevin's talent was endless, and had depth that most musicians only dream of having...
