in real life, laura only taught to pay for mary's tuition at the blind school she was attending. i believe mary did like 7-8 years at a school, and never married. laura never aspired to be a teacher..but its a great episode none the less

Much worse - they're not just bitchy and snobby, they're cruel. They're really poor and resent her for being educated. Poor Laura! But she toughs it out and eventually they come to respect her.  I think her Dad tells her to be understanding of their pride or something. Pa always had the best advice.

She was 16. In the beggining Eliza said she was 2 weeks from being sixteen. When Almanzo came to pick her up she said she was a week older. And Almanzo came to pick her up twice, every other week. So she was atleast 16 when this episode ended.
