@TheMseay123 well I have it also I'm in ur shoes I feel the same way but this is what my mom told u got to love ur self first before anyone does if that advice hurts u in anyway I'm srry I'm just trying to help
im a decent looking guy all things considered. but my confidence sucks, because i feel like when a girl sees me she'll reject me...that dosent always happen, but it stays on my mind constantly. i have a bilateral cleft lip. ive been told that i wear it well, but im so conscientious about it. ..are there other guys or girls that feel like me?
Great video!!!! Hey everyone if you were born with cleft lip I need you to email me at toris_phinnessee@yahoo.com im doin a oroject and in order for it to work I need everyones cooperation. Just put cleft lip in the subject entry. Thanks
Great video ElidasWords!! I was born with cleft lip also. Everyone that was born with cleft lip email me at toris_phinnessee@yahoo.com I have a project that I am doing and I need everyones cooperation. Just put cleft lip in the subject title....Thanks :)
Haha im 14 and i got harelip. Apart from my lips not being aligned too well its pretty good. Im just self conscious about my nostrils being different sizes. Its all good tho. Thank god i can still hookup. Im not going to lie i laughed at the video that said y i cant look at them. That was pretty funny lol
I can never find someone with a cleft palate like me. I have my surgery and my nose is fixed but I'm waiting for the finale one. People don't really understand what the hell it is and it gets lonely at times.
@HostageinWonderland I understand... there was actually another girl in my school who had it when I was growing up, but we never talked about it. Looking back, I think it would have helped a lot for the teachers or my mom, or even for myself to have explained my differences to my classmates. Now, as an adult, I realize that the unknown was really what fueled the negative comments. I encourage you to keep going strong, and educate others around you when you can!
@Infernusism That is not true at all. Most cleft lips/palates develop due to a baby being exposed to some kind of toxic substance before they are born. For some, cleft lips/palates are hereditary, because someone else in your family had one. that is not an "inbreeding" thing. For me, I was exposed to tear gas before I was born, and that resulted in a birth defect (the cleft lip and palate).
life's a bitch i really don't understand why we ended up with this shit, but in other words how people can make judgements on someone physical appearance, I would love how they would deal with it in our place..When i was in school during the time I went i got suspended 4 or 5 times because of fighting over what people said.. thank you for your video:)
I have a bilateral Cleft palate and lip etc.. ALso known as 3rd stage..
and Ive had alot of surgeries. I am now 38. I am about to get another surgery, only because I had so many surgeries before and I have had a 10 year gap from this surgery and my last one.. and for the people who say such negative things, I can only say there is Nothing that someone with a cleft palate cant do... Everyone has imperfections. That is just how it is. Be thankful, for what you have, and for each day!
Im 30, and to this day I feel like Im different. I cant even get a date because I feel like Im not good enough for anyone..and this Town, EAGLE LAKE, Tx is not making the situation any easier for me to even try and approach a female..I need help overcoming this crisis..Elida,??? If youre out there and you would like to hear about my experiences and get a better understanding about my story, I am from the above mentioned town..My names Richard Cardenas and Im looking for answers. Please visit,
Great video. I'm 23 and have a cleft lip and palate. I'm often insecure and self-conscious but try to stay positive.
For guys with it: It's not that bad. I have many friends and love going out, bars, clubs, etc. Many girls don't see it. Or care. I still have fun, sometimes lots of fun. And I live in L.A. It's really one's attitude about it... if you're confident about your appearance, girls will respond well. People will like you based on your PERSONALITY anyway, rather than looks.
I have cleft lip and I have been waiting forever to get braces and today I found out I get them in 3 weeks but it really hurts to know someone would write that about cleft lip. It is not our fault and u can't even yell u have it u r so pretty and I'm glad u made this video it makes me feel more confident:)
im amazed to see so many people with clefts in one place i guess. im currently 16 surgeries in, seems like millions of doctors appoinments, bullies, missed school, ive taken more meds than i could ever name, but i dont regret a single day because even within the last century i would died at a very young age if i would have lived very long at all and i thank modern medicine and family and friends and the wonderful people at oakland childrens hospital. p.s. this video made my day @ElidasWords
hi my name is angel and i was born with double hair lip and palate i was made fun of all my life and i know what other people feel i will b 29 years old in a few weeks and i have to say now i dont care anymore what people think of me i love my self and i love my kids i have 5 kids 3 with cleft lip and 2 without i wouldnt change my life right now for the world i was scared with my 3rd child when i found out that he had cleft lip and i know what my mother went thru with me .
Hi there. Liked your video. I was also born with a cleft palate; had it repaired at 19 (after much begging to my parents). You speak beautifully and are a lovely young woman. I understand wanting to improve speech (the first time I heard myself post-surgery, I cried) but please don't feel insecure. Your loved ones will appreciate you regardless. Best wishes. :-)
ouch! i accidentally pressed the "dislike" button to your reply! I didn't mean it, i was scrolling up my page and made the mistake. I tried to "undo" the mistake, I hope it worked! :)
(((((((((((((((((((YOU HAVE TO answer this question ...
so im 15 i have cleft lip when i was a baby got the sergury everything is fine now but im just worried about the scar.. i dont want the scar to remain forever.. arnt there sergurys to get rid of the scar? i mean theres lots of scar removals right?
@jaetheboy there are surgeries to improve the look of the scar. it depends on what it looks like. but, I have had scar revision surgery, and it turned out great for me... sometimes, I still notice it, but no one else does. you would need to contact a plastic surgeon who specializes in cleft lip and palates.
@ElidasWords hi please tell me where did you get your scar rivision? i had only one surgery before, but i hate my scar because people can notice right away even i wear make up. Please tell me cause i want to get a dr who good at this. hope to hear from you soon. Thanks
I also have a blilateral. I am one in a 100 with truly perfect speach. I disagree about prejudice from adults. They are just as prejudice as kids but don't say it to your face. Most adults with CL&P deal with a huge amount of social isolation. Nobody picks up a phone and calls you. You have to initiate all contacts and half the people never call you back. Never got past a first date. Job offer, "what is that?". I did well financially because of telephones and the internet.
@yeldarb11 that is great that your speech is in tact. it's also very true that many people with cleft lip and palate do feel more isolated. for me, it was mostly because i didn't know anyone else who had a similar issue. it's great that you are a self starter!
You look fine. You are an intelligent lady. You have my word on this... if you had not shown me the pictures, I would not have known that your nose had been modified. I had to look closely to see it.
My wife is 19 weeks pregnant, and the DR told us at our last ultrasound that the sonographer thought she saw a cleft lip, but was not really sure. The DR couldn't see it when she did a follow up ultrasound. I am baffled as to why they would tell us this if she couldn't see it and the sonographer wasn't really sure, my wife is hysterical. But we know if she does have a cleft lip, we are still so much luckier then the parents sitting next to their children's hospital beds for months and years.
@Ryan198416 a cleft lip forms by 5 weeks within pregnancy and a cleft palate by 12 weeks. that is for any cleft lip and/or palate. depending on how the baby was positioned during the ultrasound, then the Dr. may have had difficulty telling. if you can, get a 2nd ultrasound or a 3D ultrasound that shows more detail. if your baby does have a cleft lip or palate, she will be fine, if you want to message me about it and ask questions, please don't hesitate
Elidas are you wearing any makeup in this video? this is the first video I watch from you and let me tell you, you look BEAUTIFUL! I wish I looked half as good as you look. I've had many surgeries and my face kind of looks normal now but I still get "that stare" from some people (adults too) and some harsh remarks
I'm glad I watched your video, in some way it was like looking at myself reflected in a mirror ;D
@divacat80 I am wearing makeup in this video and in every video. makeup is something that makes me feel better about myself, so i do use it pretty much every day. that is part of my own insecurities with having a cleft.
@ElidasWords well you do a great job with it ;D i always need to conceal the scarring and the redness around my lip and nose so it's hard to make it look natural as if i wasn't wearing any makeup at all. You're gorgeous girl! ;D
i'am 18 with a cleft lip and palate and i love it i have man for 2 years now i dated before and still have alot of crushes just because we where born this way there people out there that would love to date anyone no matter wat little prob we have we r all beautiful and trust me when i say that keep your head up i hope you can see the beauty in you as i do =) forget all those ignorant people i laugh at them to me the way i see it they just look stupid and thats not cute
@YaZiN7777 I got bullied too. most of my life I got bullied and teased, and it definitely made me really insecure most of my life. I luckily had some good friends, and my mom helped me a lot with feeling more confident. while I was in school, I had to kind of put up a wall, which I don't recommend. I think the best defense is telling people why you have a cleft lip and palate, that it just happened, and not something you did to yourself. If that doesn't help, it will get better. Message me.
i like your video. both my twin nephews were born with cleft lip and palate as well. one had a double and one a single. its difficult with the stares and the comments you get when people look at them if i ever hear anyone whispering or talking i go up and introduce them and tell about it because most people are scared of what they dont understand n a lot of times if explained they are more excepting. i think all children are precious no matter what the defect is. i think you look great =)
It hurts don't you people think? How it destroys a person's childhood by being teased and being looked at differently... by being discriminated, mocked, and underestimated? It takes down some people's confidence and halts their normal lives by restricting them one way or another.
No one wanted to be born with such a thing... it's them people and their hateful eyes that makes it feel worst.
thank you for making this video! i have a cleft lip & palate and I always feel so alone bcus I've never met anyone who has it. I've gotten jaw surgery, and I plan on getting reconstructive surgery on my nose as well. anyway i'm glad you made this video I was feeling depressed about it tonight, but I feel better now after watching you video thank you!! :) <3
I was born with a cleft lip to same area and I'm about to turn14 in November and it's probably THEE worst age to have it to me. I've been called alot of stuff.Name it i've been called it. It makes me mad at first but then i get sad and feel like im sooo different. Its sooooo hard to be at school with it. Well im happy you've become a stronger person though.:)
@twilight961113 it is really hard to be in school with it. I was teased most of my life and it only really got better when I stopped caring. Also I surrounded myself around people who understood and respected me. it also got better once I had my first nose revision at 16 years old.
@ElidasWords hi Please tell me where did you get your nose rivision cause im planning on get my nose rivision, but its hard to find a dr who good about it. hope to hear from you soon thanks
@twilight961113 i agree(: and i was born with a bilateral cleft lip and palate and im only 13 (turning 14 in august) and it does suck to have it at this age.....
@chocolatechiplowi115 There is no reason to feel bad for me. I am very successful and happy with my life, in part, because of my challenges in life. It does get better! Middle school was the toughest time.
@twilight961113 same here. Im about to turn 15 in a week and I have been made fun of and stared at. It made me not feel human and i just get so fucking pissed off about people..
@rozz2656 I know for a fact, from seeing my friends and their relationships, that there really is someone for everyone. One of my friend's had cancer in his sinus cavities and has a huge scar from ear to ear, and his facial growth was significantly stunted, which also affected his voice. He has a great fiance now, who loves him despite his appearance.
I'm a 18 years old girl from sweden who are born with cleft lip and palate... and I think you just have to accept it if you are born the same way like me... you can not walk around in a life and feel bad for your nose and lip. so all cleft lip and palate peoples in the world. you are amazing. and remember... youre not alone.
@ModernaTankar Alone......... *sigh*... Humans are so despicable. I grew up hating the world and being distrustful of the people around me coz of this. They look at me with eyes filled with either pity, mockery, or shock. (what they haven't seen someone like me before).
And go on with my life? I Love music and I play the guitar but ****! I can't sing.
I wanted to be a lawyer when I was a kid and was unaware of what I am, but hell, look at me. I love literature and art too and that's it.
@westoner1 Mine was repaired but still lacks one or two surgery. I avoid camera and pictures.... It's not something to hate, it's them filthy humans that should be hated. Them and their disgusting way of thinking.
You're beautiful. YOu don't look different really. You're unique. Oh wait up, you just said bad freckles?...wel okay that sucks. YOu just did the same thing to me that you feel that dude did to you. That;'s kinda fun. Anyway, you're lovely. No worries.
@sem1021 I had my lip revision in 2007. My lip was really thin on one side & I wanted more fullness. My doctor used alloderm which is sterilized skin from a cadaver. It sounds gross, but it really helped to fill out my lip. Unlike collagen, I don't have to go back for multiple injections.
Well i dont have a cleft lip but i do have a palet and well im really scared about going to get it fixed and no i dont have any skedualed for further notice and i want to get it fixed but im scared and do you think speech therapy will help?
i grew up with a cleft lip and palate and i'm 17 right now and i can completely relate to what your saying. iv'e been through alot of people making fun of me and surgeries and the whole deal but i guess some people out there are to immature to take it seriously and not joke around about it because it can definitely mess up your life.
And to those who are so negative about it, dont worry about what other people say. God made you this way for a reason and this only makes us stronger in the end. We deal with stuff most people dont ever have to. If you cant love your self for who you are then who will? Good luck to you all and have a little more confidence!
I just came across your video. Great job! I just want to say you look beautiful!! The doctors did a great job with the repairs. I was also born with a CLP (unilateral). I'm 23 and have gone through numerous surgeries myself.
@MiZZPrettyFACE13 People are ridiculous, unfortunately. But, I have met some amazing people, including my boyfriend. I am 25 years old now, and never thought I would be where I am today.
@ninjaicekitten You're right, it's not cool! But, it's not the worst thing ever. And over time life does improve. At least for me it has, and not because anyone helped me, but, because I do things that make me happy.
@ninjaicekitten I agree, having a cleft is not cool, and a lot of the time, it really does suck. What helps me is what I have done with my life to try to help others. For me, that is through getting my masters degree, this video, as well as finding things that I am good at.
I was born with a cleft palate...im ok now as i had it sorted years ago, but i speak like a have a blocked nose...but im not disabled in anway - im fed up with people ,mimicking me and its really making me feel bad about myself - but i dont want to get into trouble for punching the living lights out! - what do you guys say to them...i need help????
@906775k I would explain what a cleft is and I would also maybe talk to a doctor or speech pathologist about your symptoms. They might be able to help reduce the "blocked" nose feeling (called hyponasality).
@906775k you don't need help, you need to make yourself stronger, develop your skills, talents, attitudes, stop caring about what these people are doing..they don't matter YOU matter!
@906775k find out something about them like when somebody made fun of my cleft lip and palate i yelled go back to harbor oaks crazy!!! it was a mental hospital.
@906775k my sister in law (who i don't see often) everytime she hears me speak she asks if i'm having a cold. i guess she still didn't realise i have a cleft (repaired) palate. some people don't know that a cleft palate ends up in a "blocked nose"- speech and they don't link both things and they end up saying more things than they should.
I agree with ElidasWords, you should explain it to them and if they keep being a**holes then just do whatever u think they deserve XD
@Brookester105 when I had that problem, it was a difficult time in school. A lot of kids/teenagers didn't understand what was wrong. I found that by explaining to them the problem, they understood more, and became more accepting. That was my experience, but it did take time.
@ElidasWords Well i did exsplain it to them and yet they still make fun of me and they mok me but i do have friend's that understand and i am getting surgery in the begining of summer,Im scared is it going to hurrt?
@Brookester105 Are you scheduled for any further treatment by doctors or professionals? What kind of surgery are you having? I, myself, decided to have upper jaw surgery on June 1st, and will be posting a video about that. I hope it all goes well!
Thank you , I was born with a severe biltereal cleft lip and pallete , I thank you for your videio , I wish I had the balls to do that when I was a teen :)
i have a cleft lip and am different as i have never seen any one who has one were i live if i could get rid of my scars i would say no i love who i am
there is really nothing to be ashamed of, i still dont get y ppl make such a big deal out of it, and kids making fun of people and discrimination and stuff.. its just sad. really hate people who discriminates, its them that we have wars and racism and murders.
@wisegirl222 i go on dates too. i mean i have the best bf in the world... and we've been on for three years..i can't comprehend why people have to make such a big deal about a scar?
@TuRdSandwitch18 acctually they took a eice of my hip out and grafted it onto the roof of my mouth when i was seven for one of my surgerys so it does happen sometimes
that's not an implant every1 gets that done as far as i know, but they do do implants for clefts although it depends on the individual case as they are all pretty mich different
@TuRdSandwitch18 There's also a surgery where they do a skin graft, taking skin from your body, and use it to fill in the gaps in your lip. I had it done when I was 18, where they removed skin and bone from my left hip.
i have like some other questions: 1. did you have a slushy/nasally voice when you dated people lol 2. how old were you when you got your first GF/BF, just wonderin lol
@rozz2656 yes, many people with cleft palates marry people who don't have them. I have actually never dated anyone with any birth defects and most of them have been very accepting and understanding of my medical issues.
@92hejiloo too me us cleft people arent normal we get made fun of cause we are ugly and we have no point in life and my voice is weird so i might just kill myself so the world is much happier with out an ugly person
if U can't accept who u are then nobody will do it. Stop thinking about ''im ugly blabla'' what's the definition of ugly? who decides who's ugly or not? our society will allways have ppl who judges and likes to make fun of others who doesn't look like ''normal ppl'' but we have 2 learn how 2 handle it and it's just gonna make us stronger.
@rozz2656 I don't think that way at all. I see that because I have a cleft, I am much more compassionate and can use that to help people. I created my "point in life". I am now 25 and am getting my master's in speech and language therapy.
@ElidasWords hi elidas i am very glad to hear u will be a speech therapy helping us kinds i think ur speeech is excellent i have a question i need to do 1 or 2 more jaw surgery did u speak that good since a kid or during ur teenage year cuz i feel my speech isnt that good i wonder will it be better
@rozz2656 I was born with bilateral cleft lip and palate. I know exactly what it's like to be ridiculed for it but through plastic surgery and bone grafting it's been repaired to normal and is barely noticeable. One of my anesthesiologists had cleft and it's inspired me to pursue medicine as a career- I'm now just finishing up my first year of pre-med. Don't let the defect and the haters win. Killing yourself is NOT the answer.
@rozz2656 don't think that way. be positive. i'm also a cleft lip palate but i have more confidence in myself. i'm 20 already taking up interior design. and sometimes do a modeling but never think your ugly. we all beautiful
I am 19 and was born with a cleft palate, having had 7 surgeries so far. After all the check-ups, speech therapy, dental work and hearing loss, I am 1 year away from being a fully qualified nurse. Screw the bullies, those assholes don't possess enough intellect or compassion to do anything good for society.
I have a baby boy who has a wide unilateral complete. He was born 9-21-09 and we didn't know he has a cleft lip and palate. I had never even heard of it honestly. I think you are absolutely beautiful! People are amazing; I found they speak before the think sometimes. An employee at the hospital said "OMG WHATS WRONG WITH HIM!" I said "Oh just a little jaundice." Its something people need to know about. It is the 4th most common birth defect 1 in 6,000 babies are born with cleft lip and palate.
i'm already in my teens, and i already have like 6 surgeries. my mom have a trauma me being in the hospital. i live my life as a normal life. but still i still got insecurities about myself. its my last year in college. by that time i just i can have my 7th surgery again.
You give me hope I am 28 weeks prego and I found out that my little girl will have a cleft lip and you are beautiful..so Thank you for sharing your story!
@Jillthinkstwice wait till your finished growing and mature enough to make a good choice , get some money and find a good doctor, im all for a nose job , had 6 of them, good luck
@Jillthinkstwice I agree with Shemaines. Do nose surgery when you have a week or two off. I had my first nose surgery at 16 also, and then a 2nd at 22. Both were great, and, I might have another. Try to find a doctor that specializes in reconstructive plastic surgery and who can bill it to your insurance as a reconstructive surgery. My doctor always finds a way to get the surgeries covered by my insurance. Good luck!
you're very pretty. i appreciate the time you took to upload this. i was also born with a CL/P, and i wish people were more understanding. thank you for educating others and for having the courage to put yourself out there.
I am 16 and I also have a cleft lip and palate. I had my second surgery in 4 months 5 days ago which was the nose with the rib graph and it totally sucks that we have to go through this. I do not know how you seem so confident with it, I have no self esteem at all and I think about it ALL THE TIME. Also you sound completely normal, I hope when I grow up my voice will turn out normal like yours :)
I was born in 1971 with a clef lip/palate Modern Medicine & technology were not as advanced as what they are now It was tough for me growing up, im now 38 rys old. I sometimes look into the mirror & wonder why ME, You just need to keep your head high & remember that what you have to offer as a person makes you who you are not, NOT WHAT YOU LOOK LIKE
hey girl!!! que onda.well samething happen to me, the older i get i learn to see my cualities and not my defects.its still hard and sometimes i rebember how much i suffered when little, only for not be "the normal girl" ... are u having more surgeries or ur done? ok take=)
hey girl, i was born with unilateral cleft palate too. it have been soo hard for me to survive, since girl my selfsteem was low, i had a sad chilhood u know, since i turn 19 i learn to accept me the way i am, now im 25 and God bless me with a normal biutty girl.i still want a nose surgery to make more straight.you look beutifull, and i wish i could be a secure girl like you are.i have cry a thousand times in my hard for not to be one.you are taugh.God bless you!!!keep in touch
It has been tough sometimes. My self-esteem is not always really high, but, I try to just move on. I found that it's getting easier as I get older, because, I am more able to explain to people what happened. That helps me and it helps them, because then they know more about clefts.
I am 38 yrs old now, I was born with a severe cleft palate...i went through major surgery, to repair it. had to have my mouth reconstructed for dental work to be done, its was gruelling when I was young & I was teased to the degree i ran away from school regulary. You should very proud love they have DONE a great job on yourr's
have the same thing but the only prob after the surgerys is that we end up having big noses that annoys me..i was thinking about a nose reduction later on like around 25
Hey, im a mom of a little girl with a CUCL&P, as part of a syndrom. I would love to talk to you, to maybe find out a few ways to show her how wonderful she is as she grows up. I'd also love to hear about some of the challenges she may face. Let me know if ur interested on talking!
hi hun my daughter was born with a complete cleft palate and pierre robin syndrome she is only 20 months your video gives me inspiration welldone when she had surgery she nearly died and was admitted to intensive care i myself is trying to raise awareness and ignore comments from losers who dont understand take care xxx

so im 15 i have cleft lip when i was a baby got the sergury everything is fine now but im just worried about the scar.. i dont want the scar to remain forever.. arnt there sergurys to get rid of the scar? i mean theres lots of scar removals right?
jaetheboy 1 year ago
@jaetheboy there are surgeries to improve the look of the scar. it depends on what it looks like. but, I have had scar revision surgery, and it turned out great for me... sometimes, I still notice it, but no one else does. you would need to contact a plastic surgeon who specializes in cleft lip and palates.
ElidasWords 1 year ago

I did well financially because of telephones and the internet.
yeldarb11 1 year ago
@yeldarb11 that is great that your speech is in tact. it's also very true that many people with cleft lip and palate do feel more isolated. for me, it was mostly because i didn't know anyone else who had a similar issue. it's great that you are a self starter!
ElidasWords 1 year ago
You look fine. You are an intelligent lady. You have my word on this... if you had not shown me the pictures, I would not have known that your nose had been modified. I had to look closely to see it.
Your nose surgery is superb.

Ryan198416 1 year ago

I'm glad I watched your video, in some way it was like looking at myself reflected in a mirror ;D
divacat80 1 year ago
@divacat80 I am wearing makeup in this video and in every video. makeup is something that makes me feel better about myself, so i do use it pretty much every day. that is part of my own insecurities with having a cleft.
ElidasWords 1 year ago
@ElidasWords well you do a great job with it ;D i always need to conceal the scarring and the redness around my lip and nose so it's hard to make it look natural as if i wasn't wearing any makeup at all. You're gorgeous girl! ;D

hi im 15 and i got a cleft lip and i get bullied for it... help?
YaZiN7777 1 year ago
@YaZiN7777 I got bullied too. most of my life I got bullied and teased, and it definitely made me really insecure most of my life. I luckily had some good friends, and my mom helped me a lot with feeling more confident. while I was in school, I had to kind of put up a wall, which I don't recommend. I think the best defense is telling people why you have a cleft lip and palate, that it just happened, and not something you did to yourself. If that doesn't help, it will get better. Message me.

i like your video. both my twin nephews were born with cleft lip and palate as well. one had a double and one a single. its difficult with the stares and the comments you get when people look at them if i ever hear anyone whispering or talking i go up and introduce them and tell about it because most people are scared of what they dont understand n a lot of times if explained they are more excepting. i think all children are precious no matter what the defect is. i think you look great =)
hottiebgurl 1 year ago
It hurts don't you people think? How it destroys a person's childhood by being teased and being looked at differently... by being discriminated, mocked, and underestimated? It takes down some people's confidence and halts their normal lives by restricting them one way or another.
No one wanted to be born with such a thing... it's them people and their hateful eyes that makes it feel worst.

sem1021 1 year ago
@sem1021 I had my lip revision in 2007. My lip was really thin on one side & I wanted more fullness. My doctor used alloderm which is sterilized skin from a cadaver. It sounds gross, but it really helped to fill out my lip. Unlike collagen, I don't have to go back for multiple injections.

906775k 1 year ago
@906775k I would explain what a cleft is and I would also maybe talk to a doctor or speech pathologist about your symptoms. They might be able to help reduce the "blocked" nose feeling (called hyponasality).
ElidasWords 1 year ago
@906775k you don't need help, you need to make yourself stronger, develop your skills, talents, attitudes, stop caring about what these people are doing..they don't matter YOU matter!

619champrey 1 year ago
@906775k my sister in law (who i don't see often) everytime she hears me speak she asks if i'm having a cold. i guess she still didn't realise i have a cleft (repaired) palate. some people don't know that a cleft palate ends up in a "blocked nose"- speech and they don't link both things and they end up saying more things than they should.
I agree with ElidasWords, you should explain it to them and if they keep being a**holes then just do whatever u think they deserve XD

@TuRdSandwitch18 acctually they took a eice of my hip out and grafted it onto the roof of my mouth when i was seven for one of my surgerys so it does happen sometimes
neoviper25 2 years ago
that's not an implant every1 gets that done as far as i know, but they do do implants for clefts although it depends on the individual case as they are all pretty mich different
TuRdSandwitch18 2 years ago
huh really i dont know they did it when i was like 5 so .... huh
neoviper25 2 years ago
@TuRdSandwitch18 usually to "bring out" a lip involves a type of jaw surgery that expands the upper jaw, called the maxilla
ElidasWords 1 year ago
@TuRdSandwitch18 There's also a surgery where they do a skin graft, taking skin from your body, and use it to fill in the gaps in your lip. I had it done when I was 18, where they removed skin and bone from my left hip.

Good luck!

I have a funny shaped palate now too. It's great that your treatment was quick.

Most likely, if there is a large opening, then it is probably considered to be a cleft palate.

It has been tough sometimes. My self-esteem is not always really high, but, I try to just move on. I found that it's getting easier as I get older, because, I am more able to explain to people what happened. That helps me and it helps them, because then they know more about clefts.
