i don't understand what they are doing, are they just backing up what is being played with guitars, or are their guitars making those sounds, or are they using loops??
are they extracting sounds from a source and using roland gk3 midi pickups??
They modded a NES extracted the 8-bit audio files used a laptop program to put them into melodies that they made. Then hooked up the laptop to a PA and played in sync with the melody so basically the NES is playing lead and percussion and the rest of the band is playing rhythm. As for the live instruments they are probably using a pitch modifier but i might be wrong sounds natural.
@heraltek this was just some streetcorner in downtown NYC... really random summer concert. I think they brought all that stuff in a small truck.

some parts the guitars stick out very well, like at 1:12. i'd say the gutars compliment the NES at some times and vise versa

They're backing up programmed music.
The lead guitarist (in the middle) programs music
through an NES and they play along with it.
I think they just use a normal set-up as far
as guitars go. You might have to research that one.

The backing is done using Famitracker exporting as an nsf file then cart loaded and used with the nes as a back track.

@guitarsk8r101 they us a NES to make the sound or in other words they use 8-bit computerized sounds as opposed to a midi keyboard and a drum sampler.
