  • Gotta love his enthusiasm.. Paul is the man. Nice little lesson :D

  • Love the jump at 1:18!! What an awesome sounding move!

  • Evolved Human Being.. In every way

  • best a-minor lick ever ^^

  • i stopped watching at 47 seconds because i was too happy that i finally saw paul play something i could play without hours and hours of practice lol.

  • I thought that balck "holes" in Gilbert's guitars where actually holes, but they are stickers right ?

  • @Roodriiguiinhoo94 The black holes were caused by Paul Gilbert shredding too hard.

  • @Roodriiguiinhoo94 They are called F holes like the ones you see on classical instruments, they help project the sound meaning a louder tone can be heard.

  • @Roodriiguiinhoo94 there called F holes dude and yeah there not actually holes those holes are used for orchestra instruments to resonate better i believe if im not mistaken.

  • @Roodriiguiinhoo94 In a serious response to your question, the F holes are painted on.

  • i kill to be his student

  • Its worth it to just sit and watch the lesson, and get lost in the playing. Mind blowing. Its not like he's teaching anymore, he's showing how bad-ass he is. I love it. Right 4:56 and beyond.

  • His leg stops bouncing in time for a total of ten seconds in this whole video xD

  • hahaaa paullllllllllllllllllllllll your amazing

  • Imagine... "Paul Guilbert is my music teacher"

  • He is the best, for sure....

  • I trited to play like Paul Gilbert once..... I failed.

  • @laynecobain3 I tried to play like Paul 2 once, but then my guitar started laughing at me, then it walked away...

  • PHRASING Thank you. Phrasing- its not all about speed, without phrasing you have nothing

  • woyo woyo joooooozzzzzzzzz

  • lol an amazing guitarist who doesnth ave a pic ><

  • I wish I could play this well after a night of drinking.

  • хороший урок

  • Anyone out there know what model that Ibanez is, would so love to purchase one if not too pricey, what an inspiration Paul is, he just makes me pick up my guitar every time, appreciate any info, thanks!

  • @henfen12 It's not even for sale! But you can buy other Ibanez PGM (Paul Gilbert Model) guitars. They come up for sale on Ebay every now and then, but I'll warn you, they're not cheap.

  • Imagine The talent of Paul Gilbert, John Petrucci, Steve Vai, and Yngwie Malmsteen combined into one fucking crazy guitar player...

  • @5:35 o_O

  • holding 3 amuses me...

  • paul is like a heavy metal mr. rogers. so basically he's the coolest dude on the planet.

  • his fingers use the "pillars" from transformers 3

  • nice to see he's warmed up after 20 seconds

  • 5:21

    Yea!! That's really fast!!!!

  • he's fuckin skinny

  • @wegaengine1 I see you're keeping your comments relevant. Good to know.

  • @wegaengine1

    and your point being....... ?

  • @jfmayer do i have to make a point?

  • i wonder how much u have to pay paul gilbert to teach people

  • I can't play even his easiest riff, where he used only 3 fingers and 2 strings;/ 2:57

  • what beginners does paul gilbert teach?!?! can I hire this guy off the street?

  • 2:26 'La mineur' lol

  • Did his hand teleport?

  • i wanna warm up too

    :(

  • impeccable vibrato!

  • gracias paul por las clases¡¡cuando vas a pasar por casa a tomar unos mates,el otro diia nos dejaste plantado, dejate de joder con tokar la viola todo el diaa, besos de la tia pocholaa

  • triplets are nice too 6:06

  • 3:54.. subtitles say croches? :D

  • the fact that everything he plays up to 1:25 is just his warm up scares me...

  • He looks a bit like Jesus in this video.....hmm....

  • I'm an old fart (51) and Paul is just such a cool cat. He seems to delight in teaching his incredible technique. And I've learned something new each time I watch him. To the youngsters picking up the instrument for the first time, please, don't be discouraged. Stay with it. I did and I couldn't be happier. I play out every weekend and love it. Practice, practice, practice. I've been playing for 44 years and learn every day.

  • 5:16 "UHHHH..." *shred*

  • yep! hes my favorite

  • Awesome lesson!

  • gary oldman is playing guitar :D

  • somehow this motivates me, and crushes my dreams as a guitarist at the same time.

  • wow he sure loves the dorian mode!

  • what scale is he talking about in the beginning that everyone reading the magazine probably knows?

  • @theFabz

    A Minor Pentatonic

  • He's such a funny guy and really cool to talk to in person. NO EGO, he's just a cool cat. I hope to one day get a lesson from him, he was giving them at GIT in hollywood for a while, and I found out too late and missed the chance. Maybe one day.

  • paul is da best!

  • after not playing for a week i sound like fucking SHIT lmao. wish i could play like that period, regardless of whether i had not been playing a week or even a day hahaha.

  • i almost thought he was going to break into down to mexico he was so happy.

  • He really is a great teacher.

  • Paul rules. Great guy and MAJOR guitar talent. I can't help but smile whenever I watch him. Awesome dude. I'd like to meet him one day.

  • man, i wish i had those freakishly long fingers!!

  • a really awesome lesson

  • LOL...when he did the double triplets i thought the video was fast forwarded :D

  • Paul Gilbert level is Over 9,000

  • what a nice way to start, something fell on the floor and I don't know what it was, XD

  • After that lesson the mirror broke because he is that awesome O.o

  • What a great lesson......thanks for sharing

  • this is my fav PGM guitar <3

  • And this, boys and girls, is why Paul is such an awesome teacher as well as a guitar god. Notice how his focus here and on a lot of his lessons is all about the rhythm. Just play some simple pentatonic riffs in time, syncopated and shifting between 1/4, 1/8th and 1/16th notes and you will go far.

  • anyone know what PGM that is?

  • @mattier3030 custom, you cant buy it. and the only way to do get one similar is to call ibanez and pay out the ass for it, maybe email paul and ask him about the specs. because ibanez doesnt give out private info about privately made guitars for sponsored ibanez artists, i believe they are just like gibson, because gibson has that rule. For the most part just buy the PGM on ibanez site, i may be wrong tho.

  • @mattier3030 The PGM 301.

  • @mattier3030 Actually, the PGM 100 RE is a PG 20th anniversary re-issue which is very similar to this. In England it's £1700 but things are cheaper in America due to the high VAT prices in our country. As we produce and export virtually nothing the only revenue available to the British government is taxation, taxation and more taxation. Petrol (or gas) here is over £6 a gallon or about $10.

  • Lol at 5:34 "thats how i start my guitar lessons when i am teaching live human beings," its because he is used to teaching gods :D

  • @Wolfie13R "I could barely play it at that tempo......that's good to know" *2 seconds later masters it.*

  • Paul is by far the most fun to watch! Funny as hell lol

  • hes a god

  • one thing I oftenly see when gilbert plays pentatonic;

like in Am, why did he include the F# in it?

Is that part of a pentatonic? dorian?

I'm not sure about it, but it still sound cool.

  • @123Combine

F# is a note outside of the pentatonic scale, which adds color.

Just try it out in some improvisation. Add a b5 (Which in A would be E flat)

    for even more contrast.

  • @123Combine You have to know that Am is only a mode. a mode in C major

it's the 6th mode in C major, so if you consider the F sharp in this angle of view you'll see that he raised the 4th note of the scale, so it will be like he's playing in C Lydian.

It's just a color that you can put in your playing to sound more original.

  • @123Combine

The F# note in Am is not part of the Am pentatonic scale. It is the 6th degree of an A minor scale. Minor scales which contain the 6th are dorian, as you mentioned, and a melodic minor scale (ascending) - also known as jazz minor. But I think the way he uses most of the time is as a passing note in fast runs which are centered around the pentatonic or blues scale. (A minor pentatonic has 5 notes A, C, D, E, G, while A Blues has one more note which is a D# or Eb)

  • paul gilbert has an orgasm when he ears a sustain

  • if he was to teach me he would just walk away because how much i suck lol

  • i was tapping my foot before he even said it. What a great guitarist, gets me going with a simple thing like that.

  • Well, Should I try my hands at the Triangle?

  • is he tweakin?

  • if he could hear me he would say "maybe you should pick up the xylophone instead..."

  • paul messed up on purpose naming the Am Pentatonic Scale to make us think that he's human, lol

  • The level of brilliance & depth of truth of what he's saying & demonstrating & the way he's saying it, is unprecedented.

  • end translation-thats all im gonna give u 4 free

  • Brilliant

  • phenomene

  • what if someone only plays well while soloing to a real song, not just strumming rhythm.

  • Boy, Keanu Reeves has been woodshedding....

I kid. Paul Gilbert is an astounding player and a terrific teacher -- a real natural. He's witty, articulate, and humble, in addition to being a galaxy-class virtuoso.

  • Awesome teacher and musician!!

  • This guys awesome.

His music is pretty good, his guitar skills spot on but he himself is awesome and actually makes me want to listen and understand what he's saying.

  • god took lessons from him

  • huh, well this is great to know haha

  • i love how in the beginning he's just like "fuck you all, i haven't played in a week, i'm going to enjoy this." every guitarist who truly loves their instrument knows exactly how that feels, it's heartwarming to see.

  • 5:20

    WHAT?!?!

  • This guy is so good, seems so down to earth also!!

  • did you see his WARM-UP ????! INSANE!!!!!!

  • DUDE

  • Thanks pal !!

  • hey he said "bonjour",maybe it was in france ?

he's the one to really, really insist about rythm,in all his lesson and its too cool coz i think all guitarist who want to play fast make this mistake :playing scales up/down as fast as they can and forgot the rythms

Its not my favour guitar player, but what a cool guy, really nice, altruist, and excellent teacher, well he look like "close" to us not like a Vai or a malmsteen

he inspired me more than all the furious as Vai,petrucci,or a thousand other

  • @MultiRiffer yeah Guitar Part is a french magazine, I have that issue btw

  • very funny

  • hhhmmm very easy ...

  • @anjaslidi ???

  • how baked is this guy

  • this just screams "down to mexico"

  • Man... Everytime I'm playing guitar and feeling like i completely suck and that i will never succed as a guitarist , i search for a Paul Gilbert lesson.

Hearing him play just those simple pentatonic licks with such passion reminds me of what guitar playing and music overall is about.

It's not bout crazy super fast technical stuff , it's about being relaxed and feeling what you play.

Paul has all that and everytime i see him play i just can't help and gotta pick up my guitar and jam along.

  • @ragrytakr well said my friend. well said. I do the same too.

  • @ragrytakr I burn my guitar every time I hear or see Paul play, because I know i will never be as good as 1 000 000 times worse than him.

  • @ragrytakr I second you, even though he plays faster than I will probably ever play, I can't help but feel inspired by him.

  • lol he threw in some down to mexico in there

  • U want to be good at guitar? Learn Blues...

  • Does anyone else find that they can't even do that scratchy drum sound as good as Paul? haha.

  • @YummyBananaFish no one can do anything as good as paul. he's paul.

  • it looks like he's on meth

  • @zack8035 i recently saw him passed out in my lab

  • Thank god for Youtube. Previous to Youtube how many lesson did you have with Paul Gilbert?

  • He said boseur. I'm like what the fuck. I don't understand why it is so difficult for native English speakers to mimic a French accent. This isn't meant in any rude way, it's an actual question.

  • love it how he says he ''hasn't warmed up'' yet thirty seconds later he's shredding as if he's been playing non-stop all week!

  • yeah dude. 90% of all pros are using the green tortex. some go with the purple for a thicker pic and few go thinner. i have always used green, but lately like the feel of the yellows. the best deal is a bulk purchase on ebay.

  • @lungduck actually a shit load of players are now using jazz 3s, especially a good amount of metal players, then there;s people that just dont use pics, jeff beck, a shit load of classical players, billy gibbons doesnt use a pick all the time

  • @NOTHINGTOSEEtheband jazz 3s? who makes or what are they? i havent come accross them , but i have always used the green tortex and yellow or orange sometimes. yeah i like the no pick feel and tone when i play blues shit. pretty cool tip on the jazz 3s. jeff b is gnarly!

  • @lungduck he is deffinetly a gnarly brit, if only they mad a mold of his thumb so we could put it on and use it as a pick

  • @lungduck ...dunlop I think. The jazz IIIs? yep.

  • something just fell on the floor, i dont know what it was. what a character.

  • i went to a summer program called dayjams and paul was my teacher.

  • @guitarshredder68 i lied. it was a guy that looked and acted like him

  • Does he have aids or cancer?

  • @roba12345 ohh dude your mean haha

  • @kidificationable Yeah but doesnt he look sickly? That dude seriously needs to eat a steak.

  • @roba12345 maybe he has sars. he has been overseas a lot. just kidding. i got real skinny when i turned vegetarian and ran 5 miles a day, then i realized i looked weirdly skinny and knew i needed meat. maybe he just skips meals when he is way into a new riff or something.

  • paul gilbert after not playing for a week is better then i will ever be

  • LOL "You coud even do 16th note triplets.. uhh.. lets see.... *SHRED* or somethin like that"

  • the coolest guitarist on earth

  • needs to eat and lift weights otherwise great guitarist :p

  • paul best guitarst ever great person to meet

  • thats awesome ! but dood, stop the cocain lol

  • This new youtube video setup sucks. It said the video was completely loaded (after 5 mins) and then it cuts out altogether st 2:24. Bullshit.

  • 4:52 is why I love Paul

  • Dude rocks as usual.

  • i want that guitar so bad!!

    and his skills too!!

  • such a long fingers!

    Brilliant man!

  • you know what i call him? God

  • I love this orange one! does anyone know what model of his this is?

  • how to do that lick at 4.50

  • wow, when he warms up, he gets on fire.

  • Haha, you can barely play them on that tempo, only I can XD

  • Paul Gilbert is the BEST!

  • Does anyone know what kind of pick that is round about 0:47? I've always wondered if he used something special or if he could grab a Fender Medium and play the way he does.

  • @ThePathofHavoc you could prbly get a pick explanation from him on his site.

  • @5150zombie Thanks for the suggestion! I'll check it out.

  • @ThePathofHavoc no probelm dude.

  • @ThePathofHavoc he uses orange tortex pics

  • @lungduck For real??!! He uses those floppy pieces of crap? Lolrofls. Maybe I'm going at this all wrong with the black Jazz III's.

  • lmao, paul to answer your question.... Im a level 72 dark lord

  • Paul Gilbert totally rocks dude great video.

  • is he using 10-46s or a hybrid set?

  • I'd like to know what amp he's using. That's a good tone.

  • @intervalkid Marshall Vintage Modern combo, with a couple of pedals. :)

  • @xXNeoShredderXx I thought gilberto was a laney dude?

  • @5150zombie He used to be, check out his page, now he uses Marshalls, specifically Vintage Modern Marshalls. He's been using them for a couple of years now. I definitely like the tones that he gets now. Check out his "Silence Followed by a Deafening Roar" instructional dvd and you'll get a good taste of his tone in action.

  • @xXNeoShredderXx thanks, I didn't know. Thats the dvd and album I don't have yet. I'm too behind, I def gotta check it out.

  • @5150zombie No prob, no prob, the power of Paul compels you.

  • @xXNeoShredderXx thanks, I didn't know. I don't have that one yet, I gotta check it out.

  • rock n roll will never die!

  • i think you are a good guitarist when you just know in what rythem to play when you can feel the groove and jam with it \not when you can think about hundreds of ways to let your notes work with a beat

  • True Artist !!

  • what guitar is he using?

  • @Teutonic1250: It's one of his signature models. :)
