  • How great it is to hear a piece soulfully played by two great musicians and best friends.

  • I'm so sad suddenly

  • The opening mood set by Britten and then answered by Rostropovich is one of the most beautiful things ever recorded.

  • Homage - 19th of November (1797-1828) was born FRANZ P. SCHUBERT, Great Austrian Composer

  • Britten better accompanist than Schostakovich, but composer, I don´t know

  • ASTONISHING

  • I heard Britten in a 1951 concert, and thought then what a superb accompanist he was. In this wonderful performance of the Arpeggione, he becomes the equal partner of the finest cellist in the world.

  • In a million years they will still be talking about this great genius Rostropovich.

A wonderful sensitive and human musician who brougtt great joy to music lovers across the planet.

  • La version pour l'île déserte. Sublime et sublimement enregistré...

  • The best! Perfect tempo! Seems others play so fast, trying to impress with technique, that they loose the depth and breath of such a delicate and passionate piece of art.

  • My favorite performance of Arpeggione Sonata! Most romantic and melodious playing both of cellist and pianist.

  • Very impressive, I had no idea that Britten was such an accomplished pianist, what great interpretations of the the piano introduction and solo passages. He takes his time, which is something that is all to hard to do while under the pressure of a performance.

I also like Rostropovich's performance. His dynamics are amazing!

  • One of the most amazing duo collaborations ever recorded!!

  • Britten, Rostropovich & Duport - wonderfull...

  • best piano introduction ever

  • fantastico

  • This is the best version of this work, no doubt.

  • chello rules by the master

  • inolvidable el maestro Rostropovich

  • Rostropovich is tha best !!!!! in chello

  • all masters play this music!!! why we complain?

  • This is amazing.. thank you for posting this.. I was hoping to hear what this famous piece of music was... so heart throbing..

  • The first noble march of chords sends shivers down my spine!

  • @1gombro SO TRUE!!!

  • épp ezt tanulom most fuvolából....gyönyörűséges

( presently I'm learning it on the flute...beautiful)

  • talents merveilleux

  • einfach wunderschön. Wolfgang

  • Wonderful piece of music and the sound of Rostro's cello.... is something else!

I highly recommend the version with Andreas Schiff and a wonderful Hungarian cellist. There you can actually see them playing (with eyes closed from beginning to end).

  • I used to find this piece a technical minefield. Then I found an edition that transcribed some parts down an octave and it's no problem now lol.

  • utterly beautiful!!!

    thank you Franz Schubert

thank you musicanth for posting this wonderful performance!

Mstislav Rostropovich ... one of my most favorite cellists

it is so beautiful - it almost hurts

  • Just beautiful!!

  • Beautiful!!!!
