  • @whatdigitalcamera - do amateurs like you actually watch how bad your video is before uploading? edit out the first bit

  • I'm glad he explained why they picked 7d as the model name....i can now sleep.

  • crap

  • My favourite part is when he says "wwwwoooooshhhhh woooooosshhhhh" from the wind. Funny how camera review videos have the worst quality, LOL.

  • absolutely atrocious video production. You can tell from the disheveled man at the beginning that it's a train wreck. Very strange.

  • Got to 0:30. Gave up.

  • Comment removed

  • Fuck, if I was Canon I'd have this video pulled. It has to be harming sales.

  • this camer, this camera this camera..very bad edition

  • Autofocus is more common now on cameras.

  • your audio is so fucked up! buy a mic!!

  • If they asked the pros, why only 9 focus points?

  • Lol go to 0:45 and then go to 1:08

  • terrible sound quality and superficial review. dislike

  • Anyone know who has one in North Dallas? I'm holding out for this model vs a Nikon

  • Why do you presentate a DSLR, with filming on a fuijifilm finepix?

  • my ass sounds better

  • You want a REAL camera buy a Hasselblad H4D-60.

    GET REAL!

  • The 7D is a legend

  • 7d test in my page

  • I hate to be all negative here but really, "obvious naming convention"????

    Is Canon nuts?

    1D, 1Ds, 1Ds MkII, 1DN, 5D, 5D MkII, 10D, 20D, 30D, 40D, 60D, 300D, 500D, 1100D, 7D. Where is the logic in any of this??

  • you should have used the canon 7d to video your comments.

sound is terrible considering your trying.

  • Canon 7D Is The Best.

  • it seems that the video is recorded with a dv camera and the brand new 7D serves as the audio-recorder ...

  • Comment removed

  • wow, horrible sound. i hope you're not shooting with a 7d because i'm about to get one

  • You guys have been doing reviews for so long now, and still you continue to have very poor sound quality. Can't you get a couple of wireless mikes ... kiddy up!

  • Canon is deff the way to go if your still trying make your decision check out my channel!

  • There's no escaping it Canon, your model numbering is bizarre, illogical and flat out confusing.

    Good thing they're good cameras!

  • i have 7D, 550D, & 400D, i love canon DSLR & their Lens :)

  • @KPGLGFK so we I be able to shoot good video the stock lens that comes with the 7D?

  • @m420carbine4 yes very much so.

  • I love that battery grip on the 7D.

  • the recording of this preview is simple and with no effects

    this is original video preview

whatdigitalcamera are very good I like

  • Nothing ruins video like bad audio

  • LOUD and poorly controlled sound. Not to the point. Show us the CAMERA, not the suits.

  • Definitely poor level for a mag review... I guess it cost more all the stuff he wears than an external mic!...

  • Creating these videos outside is amateur and stupid! How better a way to ruin your viewers experience? Wind and background noises bad enough to drown out the vocals....

  • i like the samsung nx10 better

  • nice video- check mine out.this was shot on a & 7d too.

    its called Reach d' sky

  • i want the multy function button to be able to do iso next time-- and iso button on the grip would be good too --- mabie canon will add that on the 7Dmk2

  • David parry looks a barrell of laughs....i think not

  • check out a video i shot on 7d first time using the camera and first video i ever shot...Ls voicmail

  • I use Nikon D80 and i also own Canon 40D!!

    both brand are good!!

  • Canon or Nikon?

  • What a big and ugly machine. Go check out the Samsung NX10. You wont be disappointed.

  • gay

  • wow the mic is soo...... fucking bad

  • What rep can't run through a simple product spec?

  • how much is the canon ??

  • which camera was this filmed with?

  • OMG the wind... Hey guys, go upgrade your tools, buy PROFESSIONAL... You jerk.

  • whats better 5d mark II or a 7d ?

  • @camerongb 5D Mark II has less noise and better quality. 7D is faster, has better AF, less noise than any other APS-C model, better video options (like HD - 60fps). I'd get the 7D, because it's fast and has low amount of noise, when compared to the 50D which I currently own. If you visit my channel, there's a link to my blog where I have the 7D review.

  • audio! :(

  • What a shit preview/review!!!

  • I cant believe whatdigitalcamera actually permitted this to go out. The sound is poor and the editing is crap!

  • HAHA YOu CANT HEAR HIM CUS OF THE WIND xD

  • which is better? canon 7d or nikon d300s?

  • @roseate4amor canon 7d by far. better noise, hd video, less focus points but faster, megapixs, fps's, etc.

  • Yeah the price has dropped a lot since then, this is the camera I'm going to buy.

  • i just got one. amazing camera and i would recommend it to anyone.

  • this or a nikon d300s? i shoot sports and landscape

    give me feed back pleaseee

  • if you're going to shoot 51% sports and 49% everything else, go Nikon.

  • is this better than the Canon EOS 550D.??

  • yes, at canon smaller nr. are the better models.

Mat: get your goys headphones ;)

  • yeahhh

  • Just got one today.

  • i want one sooooo bad!!!!!

  • absolutely great camera!

  • Yeah the Canon 7d is great... We shot our short film with it...

  • yo just episode 1 was amazing...and really good quality

  • cha,cha,cha

  • Jeez, sure hope their not using a Canon Mic haha 00:29

  • what is the thing attached to the base of the camera

  • @rollingstone100 It's a battery grip, you take that if you use for example an external Flash.

  • oh ok chers 4 that

  • No Problem Dude. :)

  • @rollingstone100 Either a battery grip or a wireless transmitter

  • @rollingstone100 battery grip which has extra batteries and helps shoot vertical photos

  • @rollingstone100 its a battery

  • Check out our behind the scenes video: a feature film shot entirely using the canon 7D!

  • To (stubones) thanks for the tip i will get VLC and try what you sugested thanks again bro.

  • i tend to think that if you want to shoot videos, you oughta buy a videocamera. If you're into photography, buy a camera.

It's like buying a 18-300mm... you'll never get the best out of it. Sure it'll make good videos and good photos, but you just can't have the whole thing.

That's my idea, i'm not saying I'm right. It's just me.

  • @GizmoCode actually the video on the 7D, and particularly the 5dMKII, is very good....the biggest plus side is the use of many lenses, which you don't have with videocameras unless you buy something like a Letus adapter......which, added to the price of your videocamera, would cost you somewhere in the price ranger between a 7d and 5dMKII

  • Well that's your opinion, but also a very closed minded opinion. There are distinct advantages and disadvantages with using both HD DSLRs and HD cameras.

  • hey whatdigitalcamera....what camera did u shoot this video with..

  • so if the 7d came out, should the 5d mark 2 price go down any time soon? just wondering since i rather purchase that one then the 7d.

  • It's very, very unlikely the 7D isn't meant to be a replacement or anything, in fact, the 7 series is meant to be an inferior model to the 5 series. The only reason the 7D has some features the 5d mk2 doesn't (such as 24p) is simply because it is newer... but Canon is officially planning to release new firmware to enable 24p, 25p & 60p on the 5D Mk II anyway!

    Hope that helped :)

  • Very poor quality overall on this review. Audio is insanely bad and what they covered was completely superficial.

  • It isn't a review, its a PREVIEW, shot at UK press launch.

  • My bad, but still it's a shame with the audio and editing.

  • @WhatDigitalCamera well if its a preview, it doesn't matter if its bad or not!!

    Really?

  • @WhatDigitalCamera well it still licks balls! you fail

  • @WhatDigitalCamera its still pretty horrible...

  • whats up with the audio???

  • was it very windy? the sound at the beginning is terrible!

  • Amazingly bad sound!!!! WTH??

  • either this or that, 7d is not a full-frame, and that says it all...

  • this camera is fukin amazing!!! ive had 1d mark3s jvc hd 110u and this camera smokes both of them...

  • Dude...How can this camera beat the 1d3?!?!? 2 Different systems. ISO 1600 is not usable on the 7d at all..

  • how is 1600 not usable. I do agree that the 1d III would beat the 7d.

  • The quality of the picture without crop or with cropping in PP is not something I would submit to clients even after heavy noise reduction filters. Maybe I would if it was converted to black and white.

  • Yes, this is the best camera

  • Hmmm...After seeing this, i bought a Nikon D300S :-D

  • oh, yeah? that's a 2 year old camera with only minor change on video mode. this one is significantly better.

  • I think its the mindset. Those who like Nikon, its the best for them. Same is applicable for Canon. Personally i think both Nikon and Canon are very good SLRs.

  • @philmx0a i totally agree!

  • nobody buys nikon's d300s. nikon uses sony's old sensor. 12megapixels =high image quality is simply a myth. it is just an excuse for a company who can't produce sensor on their own. you have better review than the one posted by photog at DP review and Trusted review. they all praise this camera. All tests are done by true professionals and fairly objective.

  • simply a myth??

the 7d is not a full frame from what i hear, and the D700 can shoot at 3200iso with minor noise... talk about myths...

  • yeah, it is a myth. At ISO200, D700 has narrower dynamic range than D5000 as well as Pentax K-x. Theoretically, this is impossible. But truth is truth. 7D has lower noise at higher ISO than 50D and 50D uses heavier noise reduction than 7D from ISO800 up. Digital technology is improving day by day.

  • @GizmoCode

They weren't meant to compete with each other. The 7d is really canon's version of the d300. The d700 competes with the 5d mark II, the 5d features great video, but the d700 has way superior autofocus.

I just got my 7d and I'm so pleased. Even with "slow focusing lenses" it focuses so fast.

  • Besides not having proper control over focus in video mode, the 7D is prone to blown highlights and crushed shadows. This lack of dynamic range is a real problem with wedding photography. I had to go back to my Canon 40D for shots requiring dynamic range, a real disappointment. Now looking at Nikon D300S for a real improvement.

  • there is no xlr inputs and the auto focusing is not good while shooting in the movie. It acts like photography

  • ok, seriously. you have an xlr-adapter for like 90$ en if you are so into movie making you don't work with autofocus. This camera beats 10000$ HD camcorders.

  • the xlr adapter sucks. there is too much hiss. and good autofocus is crucial for a lot range of movements.

  • can anyone tell me whats wrong with this camera?

  • So Vizirule, do you think the Darwin Wiggett review was intentionally misleading? There have been many people complaining about various noise issues other IQ issues with the 7D, most if not all, being directly attributable to too many megapixels on an APS-C sensor. Unfortunately, the noise issue pales in comparison to the fact that the 7D is more prone to clipping highlights and/or shadows due to a more constricted dynamic range. This problem, unlike noise, is not resolvable with software.

  • What a bad video. I can't believe it. Are you guys serious ?

  • Comment removed

  • As long as it does it's duties as a camera. For it's price hell why not?

  • I believe the review and the comments spell out rather clearly that Canon could have done much better with the 7D, and at the same exact price point........that's why.

  • I kind of agree with you. I was pretty surprised that the Canon 7D didn't perform well in image quality. Using an XSi with a 24-70mm i could still produce good pictures. I thought i would have an upper hand with 7Ds new functions. I hope Canon improves it's firmware. I am considering on purchasing one.

  • Unfortunately, the solution is not really software or firmware based. The issue is that the originating analog/digital signal coming from the tiny densely packed sensels are contaminated enough with noise that to correct the situation involves smearing the fine image detail you are supposed to be getting with the higher resolution sensor. The real solution to this problem is to reduce the resolution and increase the sensel size. The review cited below at "darwin" has a lot of pertinent info.

  • Hmm interesting. Alright i'll take 7D into consideration 1st. I'll read up more on it.

  • Review By Darwin Wiggett and Samantha Chrysanthou (a Nikon (!) user): "Samantha, a Nikon user, was interested in testing the camera, as a possible replacement for her aging D200." :)) I don't think that a photographer changes the brand so easily. A photographer buys different accesories, lenses, flashes for his camera. It's too expensive to buy a body from another producer. It means to buy other lenses, accesories etc. to fit the new body and this will cost a lot of money.

  • nice!

  • buy this one, if you are a canon user. they all say autofocus is significantly improved and despite its high pixel density, it actually performs much better than D300s in low light photography. This is probably the best APS-C camera on the market now. it's sold around 2200 dollars with 15-85mm kit lens in japanese amazon, quite a bargain, considering the fact that D300 costed 2200 dollars with no lens 2 years ago, and 7D is newer and generally better than D300.

  • full frame camera won't become popular in digital photography. Majority of people including pros realized APS-C camera is good enough. For the film photography, sensor size was such an important issue, because 645 whose sensor was about 2.5 bigger than 135mm film did produce significantly better image than normal 135mm film. But in the digital photography, the difference was only marginal. They sell full frame digital camera for those who want to use old film lens in digital photography.

  • i have like 6 of those cameras. I gave when to my 7 year old and the other one to my 12 year old daughter they love it!

  • Клевая Камера!

С удовольствием приобрел бы себе такую! Были бы деньги ...

  • Hi, So I know that 18 mp is not only good for enlarging pictures but also good for cropping... BUT! I heard that since this camera is on a cropped sensor that the picture noise can tend to come out really noisy even at ISO 200. What do you think of that?

  • I have a 40D and I've cropped JPEG's and no noise between ISO 100 and 400, this one has to be better.

  • most of the size sensor of digital cameras nowadays is smaller than the size of film that is used in older film cameras.

the full frame camera is the type of digital cameras that having the sensor size as big as the film.

  • to rubent100

a DSLR contains a CMOS sensor which is the area that captures the light, afull frame is the same size as a 35mm format film. basically it allows more light to pass through tothe processor compared to smaller normal sensors in cameras such as the canon1000d.

    hope that helps

    :)

  • stops at 0.16 . hilarious!:D nice review too!

  • what canon needs to improve is that at 30p, 7D gets heated up, i know dslr is not ment to be a camcorder but Canon really needs to bring out an updated file like they did for 5D mk2 to shoot at 24p

  • you just have the unlucky camera. i used canon for 4 years now and is going well. no problems at all

  • it's the most advance canon camera, i got a chance shooting with it, its live view has real time adjustment, better than 5d mk 2, but it's not full frame, anyway, it's new focus system is way different from other cameras which still use same Canon AF technology of the last 8 years, 7D is worth the money..

  • Isn't the new 1Ds Mark IV the most advanced now?

  • 1D mark 4 or 1ds mark 4? it's 1d mark 4, and yea, it's the most advance now :)

  • It means that the sensor's size of the camera is 35mm, like film.

  • no, its not a full frame, crop sized

  • Im answering what full frame means...

  • canon always leads--all others follow, some very closely

  • Ok maybe this question im about to ask is been answered like 20 millons times but to cut it short.

What kinda of grip is he using on that 7D?

  • bg-e7

  • This video is awful... wind noise and the talk from David Parry is repeated. The 7D sounds like a Tonka toy being hit over the head with a babies rattle when in high speed and only has the image quality on single shot. Buy the D300s and save some money!

  • so would the D300s be SUCH better quality then the 7D?

  • Not really there is not a great deal in it. The ISO handling on the D300s is much better but that's a Nikon trait full stop so no shocks there. The body feels more solid in the hand on the D300s and as I eloquently pointed out it the 7D does sound awful on full chat. But even Canon said they would work on this for the future.

  • It's a great step in the right direction for Canon as all their sport shooters have been full pro 1D range and out of reach for semi pro sports photographers. The price issue is the clincher as at £1300 or there about it's a compelling price for the D300s over the new comer!

  • Hello, does anyone know what lens is on the camera at the start of the video?

  • i like my canon 50D

  • What kind of battery grip is that? like which one?

  • BG-E7

    It's compatibile only with 7D

  • i bet all the canon fanboys are gonna bash me for this

but yeah. the camera is GREAT

but is ISO performance is fucking RUBBISH

    do the maths yourself

ISO6400 at 18mp on such a tiny it will NOT compare anywhere NEAR the nikon equivalents. even the nikon D90 will out perform this in noise reduction..

to top it off. EF/EF-S Lenses are rubbish and will NEVER compare to canon's older FD lenses (Which are on par with nikon's lenses)

  • So what would be a better choice? Nikon D90 or this camera for average photograqphy?

  • The Nikon D90 and the Canon 7D are not in the same class of cameras, if i were to pick a Nikon camera in the same range of the 7d, i would compare it to a Nikon D300s, both cameras will burn a hole through your wallet with a price of ~1800 USD. Good luck my friend.

  • true, well... what do you think would be a better choice? Canon 7D or Nikon D300s? and why would you recommend that camera??

  • the d90 is a killer camera for the price i use 1 as a light walk around camera its tops i also use a nikon d300 but i think the d90 takes a better image straight out of the camera

  • So im guessing this camera isnt good? what if you dont use ISO THAT much? is it good then?

  • I just put online a video test in HD 1080i with a 17-55mm 1:2.8 IS lens in lowlights shots. Go check it on my profile !!

  • If im someone buying DSLR i wouldnt spend good near 2000 dollars for crop body Id rather buy sony a850 or other crop bodies for cheaper price

  • What do you need 8 stops of exposure comp for?

  • for when you fuck up a image i suppose , can then fix either a blowout or under exposed shot if shooting raw

  • oiy

get out of the wind when u start to video i have seen better amature reviews than this .................wind noise is unbelievable keep twiddling them dials ........HE DID NOT HAVE A CLUE so for other readers i will give it 5 stars so others can see what a plonker!!!!!!!

  • Ha! yeah the cameraman probably didn't have head phones to monitor the audio. Notice the in the first scene with Matt his audio is distorting as it does throughout the video.

    Should have redone it.

  • Is for ppl dun have 5D to buy 7D

  • Buy full frame !!!
