5 year old cars, didn't hold their value well when smaller cars were coming out, the K-car, Fairmont, and downsized Malibu, these were considered tanks even back then. Horrible gas mileage. Yet gas was only 70-75 cents a gallon.
I will take a Super Sport anytime over this; ours was a 68' pontiac; same color...similar design....note; Karpinder. Your distant relative; blood only I am thinking???
Karpinder: Ours was a Pontiac......hate it when people rewrite history. Have pics of it; want some? your distant relative...oh so far away.....love your phone calls!!!
i grew up with big fords and mercurys...i learned to drive in them...owned many of them..and miss every single one of them. they all had their own style and u could tell em apart. now..car styles are a bad joke!
Bear in mind that by 1983, these 1977 models were five-year old cars with over 50,000 miles on them, perhaps more. Back then, that was like a car with 100,000 miles on it today - if not more. Most of those 1970's cars went to the boneyard before they hit six digits. As for the relative values of Fords versus Chevies, "Price depends on condition" - and I'll bet the Mailbu had lower mileage.
Just try and buy any one of these cars today for $2188. It ain't gonna happen. These cars now command a premium because so few of them exist anymore. And yes, they covered a lot of real estate in living room sofa comfort.
These were the days (1970s-80s) when GM still had the best trade in values. All 4 cars were the same year 1977 cars, but the 3 Ford/Mercury cars were better equipped and had more luxury, while the Malibu was a base model that had a lower original sticker price. But 6 years later, the Chevy was worth just as much.
Old, white-haired Len Burton. (Boy, I had to rack the cluttered attic that is my brain to pull that one out!) They don't show him here, but he was Bert Weinman's golden-voiced announcer, and the greatest pitchman in advertising history. Nobody made "radio, heater, whitewalls" or "full delivered price" sound more appealing. And could he ever rock a plaid polyester sportcoat. BTW, per state law, Illinois car dealers can no longer be open on Sunday.
@Kapindur My mom had that station wagon too. We'd take it on road trips. The problem was it was allergic to being outside of Cook County. We spent many hours in service stations waiting for it to be fixed.
how about the four of these on a 1982Ford car transporter if needed add more Frords from 1982 espessaly some wagons

The wagon has a great shape to it...except for the front end. I never got into the stacked headlight look. The Marquis is pretty cool too.

Hahaha I would so take that Squire Wagon any day! I have a '78 Mercury Colony Park Wagon similar to that '77 Marquis.

Those cars in the video were the last of the great American made cars, but they maybe got 8-10 miles per gallon at the most.
glennmillerfan 4 months ago
@Deeckhardt, there are two reasons why I bought a non-American car back in March:
1. I was tired of my American cars becoming time bombs after the odometer hit 100,000 miles.
2. Most so-called "American" cars (Ford, Chevy, et al) are assembled in Mexico. My "foreign" car Honda Accord? Made in Marysville, Ohio.

Is the LTD II Wagon still available?
That thing is so damn long, the front bumper would be crossing Lake Cook Rd while its ass would still be Will County.

@rpm773 The wagon was offered in just 1977. The Fairmont wagon was supposed to replace it...
