While these are great for stability and good for transverse abs they are not the best exercises for the rectus abdominals . To develop the rectus abdominals you must move the point of the point of the hips closer to the sternum , shortening the distance between both . Pelvic raises and crunches are in fact great for this.
Ok, Windmills, no specific reason to use Kettlebells apart from the fact you say you use KB's... Kettlebell Swings not for your abs, but back and legs, last three were good and had reason to use a KB
Hi hi! Have you considered - fast abs magic (do a google search)? Ive heard some great things about it and my father got great 6 pack abs and lost tons of weight with it.
tried 4 of 5 of these and were pretty good though i feel more of my biceps than my abs,one of my teachers (ron kosakowski) loves these kettle bells and partially worked out with me last night trying the halo and liked it as well...but likes to use the handle more than cupping the bell like in your video. you can check his web sight out @ psdtc"dot"com. i will be doing a lot more of these. thanks for the great vid subed n liked ;)
Hi hi! Have you heard about - fast abs magic (do a search on google)? Ive heard some decent things about it and my mate got beautiful Six pack abs and lost a truck load of of weight with it.
In their defense, these exercises are simple to do and the Turkish Get Up can be technically demanding but the Turkish Get Up is arguably the most complete ab/core workout you can do with a kettlebell, IMO. Another that bears mention is the Russian Twist.
I STRONGLY disagree. These are NOT the best exercises for abs with kettlebells. IMHO out of these moves, only windmills are seriously effective. Of course effectiveness also depends on weight of bells used, but still.. there would be so many other things, such as turkish getup, to include rather than the silly-ish rotations around your head or thighs..
its funny how ab exercises require so much of the arms. obviously everything is connected, you use your abs when your doing pushups, pullups, and walking! i want some thing specifically for my abs!
Just provoking a thought, the title is "5 Best Kettlebell Ab Exercises. I like the fact these guys aren't trying to mislead anyone. When I wrestled I never had 6 pack abs.... ever! I ran 5 miles before practice, came and did wind sprints for 30 minutes, 200 sit ups, 200 push ups, plus an hour of mat drills, scrimmaging and practicing moves. When wrestling season was over I played Soccer on winter league and summer league and I never had six pack abs! Genetics plays a huge part!
@Ahmed7080 yes, but weight is not eccentric as it is in a KB. You can do swings with sand bags for grip strength, any thing you can grip works, even little kids....
Craig should watch his back when renegading.. tighten the abs, so the back is just a tiny bit bend. (of cause I could have been mistaken - he is wearing a loose shirt - makes it hard to tell)
I have a bad back and knee. I am a 29yo female who wants to tone up. I cant do high impact (trust me I have tried) and love how these feel on my muscles and back! Thanks so much!!
this video should be titled "5 simple and effective KB ab exercises" There are other better exercises for your abs, or trunk stabilizers, but the problem is most people watching this video simply can't do them good enough to be effective or safe. How about 1 arm snatches, 2 arm snatches, clean and press variations, carry variations, gorilla snatches...all in all the exercises in the video are great
@cbathletics: I really dig this. The evidence suggest that it works . . question: How much weight (for optimal results and workout variability) do you suggest to start off with for an intermediate athlete - one who is incorporating the kettle ball into my ab routine for the first time? 15 lbs, 20 lbs, 30 lbs? Thanks.
@WarezDaBeef I realize that you made this post 2 months ago, but for a male intermediate athlete, a 26lb (12kg) kettlebell is the perfect place to start. If you workout with it a couple of times a week, you will see yourself wanting a heavier one very quickly. Listen to your body
I do all these workouts, except the rows and the windmills (but do clean and presses which works the abs). However, I stopped doing crunches and I lost that cut tone in my abs. Therefore, I still say you need to do 2 sets of 60 good crunches per week to keep that cut tone

Wow! Before you guys show a video like this, do me a favor and be fit. You guys look like really out of shape. I don't think anyone is going to listen to you guys looking like that.
@noahdaboah1 depends on what ur definition of fit is... I know for a fact that they know what they are talking about. And being at 4% bodyfat isnt fit just as it isnt fit to be 6ft and 220lbs, whether its fat of muscle..
@noahdaboah1 lol? You're a joke. You're hiding behind your computer talking trash to these guys. These ab exercises are good because stabalization is key in all of them, which works your core the best.
Why you mad doe? You mad that you're fat and your Bicep + Bench press workout 6 times a week isn't working for you?
Relax your shoulders and let them hang while holding the bell. The only things you should be using to create motion is your legs, hips, and abs - NEVER shoulders.
Hey danielclynn if you have an impingement that keeps you from raising your arms in front of you then you should rehab it first...if not then KB swings are completely fine. Feel free to msg me any questions you might have on my page.
@danielclynn Anyone teaching in RL will tell you to start with very lite weight on any kettlebell exercises. An they work well cause they are about correct body mechanics and won't put not needed pressure on your shoulders.
If you do the swing properly, you won't have to worry. You never use your shoulders in the swing. All power is generated from the snap of your hips and that is what raises the bell to chest level. NEVER use your shoulders; they are to hang loosely and only move upward because of the force generated by your hips. If you were to lift the bell with your shoulders during the swing, we would be talking major shoulder and back problems.
how heavy is the kbell u guys used in this video? 53lbs?
