What's the status.. I've got a rabbit of my own. I would like to do the same. What Motor did you go with and what guide or forums did you find information on how to do this?

Great. Glad you are getting back into it. The sooner the better!! Get that EV out on the road!. Don't cheap out on the Batteries!!! You will be sorry if you do. You will have little range and the car will sit. I recommend Trojan Lead Acid 6vs for lowest upfront cost with reliable longevity. we had our radio flyer wagon for 12 years now its still holding up to bad they stopped making them cause they were deemed not safe lol
