Great band, very supportive and a couple of the bandmembers formed a "supergroup" with a guy from Beautiful South and one from The Fratellis to support Mencap, the learning disability charity. Was a crackin' gig!
Dunno why everyone is praising Jason so much, he doesn't actually write all the different parts. John Coxon is the real Genius, he did a lot of the orchestration & he is a geneticist when he isn't picking up after "Spaceman's" hissy fits ;)
@OrpheusKant Where did you find the information that Jason doesn't write the parts? From everywhere I've read (I'm not counting Wikipedia of course) he cannot read music so he sings (if not all then most) into a tape recorder. Then, he works with the musicians to create the notes for the instruments. Not dissing Coxon because I agree with you that Coxon is a genius. But I disagree with you in that I think Jason does deserve the praise. Besides, the I just love the music. :)
@42guide42 what you've said is pretty much what Jason said himself in an interview i saw years ago promoting this record. At the time he said it was thighpaulsandra he worked with to realize the music.
he cant even read music!!! how good is that all those different instruments that he arranges and he cant read music this word gets branded about to much but it fits him perfectly GENIUS (and i meant the caps lock)

Genius? Please. He'll be forgotten by history like all mediocrities. He's no Bob Dylan who is a genius by the way, who is still releasing critically acclaimed albums after 50 years. This guy is no more genius than Ricky Martin.
oh dylans are "critically acclaimed" at his age if you can still pick up a guitar the "critics" think thats great jason pierce is a genius he has wrote at least 3 timeless albums without being able to read music just by ear he may not be as popular as the old man with the shocking voice but that would mean lady gaga was "genius" if it was a popularity contest!
I was watching MGMT and Andrew mentioned he likes Spiritulized, so I just thought I would listen to some of their stuff and I'm glad I did cause they r brill. I love this song. Love MGMT too!
Hi jijorns, I'm not sure what your answer to my comment means, I think it means there is no comparison to MGMT and Spiritulized. Please if you can let me know. Thanks
Love this song and the video... i think its the first time ive ever seen an orchestra smash up their instruments at the end in a who esc. way. brilliant
i heard him described in some article for NME or sumfin as "face of the new generation of the soft hearted shoe gazers" or sumin 2 that effect. thought that was perfect :)
Do people realise how difficult it is to organise an orchestra with the variety of instrumentation adopted? There is definitely no room for the self-centredness that exist in your average rock band.
@DeadGermans all i gotta say , as a long long time spaceman fan is this stiil totally unimaginably hard.. and i think its been more than 10 years since this come out . beautifull!
hope one day Jason and Peter make up and do something as the Spacemen 3 - imagine all Pete's electronic noodling and Jason's choir/orchestration - wow.

I fondly remember their "Highest Show On Earth," live at the CN Tower, Toronto (around the time of this release). My friend and I scammed passes (not easy) and were the ONLY two people amongst the 50 or so tag-wearing radio-industry-assholes who actually enjoyed it. It may have been a gimmick show, but way up there atop the city, it was sublimely appropriate to J.Spaceman's themes. Glad they did it, even if it went over numbly with the uninterested hacks who were also there. It WAS high.
one of my best friends was one of those guys, and no one loves Jay's shit more then he does.. except maybe me. I couldn't get in, but I made 6 other shows and met him a few times...now if I could only meet Sonic and convince them to get back together.
don't forget slipstream.. but really none of them had anything on spiritualized. I used to have an amazing spectrum jewel case though, he made nice cases
Peter kember(sonic Boom) is the man from Spacemen 3 who formed Spectrum not Jason.
This doesnt sound like the verve,as jason is well before richard ashcroft's time with this ,and to me sounds nowt like the verve!!
Jason is one hell of a talented guy and deserves more yes compared to the shite around,as was Peter Kember(sonic Boom) still is in a way but jason took the lead so to speak..respect to both.
I think this album is the only one that deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as 'Pet Sounds.' It transcends 'pop'. Maybe XtC's AppleVenus Vol I also...
Yea, I think i like Spiritualized, this song doesn't really sound like The Verve though, more like Ashcroft's solo stuff, reminds me of "Why do lovers" or "words just get in the way".
This sounds as good in 2012 as it did ten years ago.
