Here's what I do - I get 3 vials of insulin a month, which all get stored in the fridge. When I am running low with the vial in my medicine cabinet, I take one vial out of the fridge. That vial will last maybe 2 weeks, so it's not in the fridge that long. Also, it's well within the 30 days window of storing insulin outside of the fridge.
The only time bubbles are an issue is when I first fill up. I prime a little extra to get them out of the top. Thx.
You should do a video on what's your favorite thing to eat when you're low. I get sick of the juice, so sometimes I indulge. Heath bars are my guilty pleasure. My fridge is loaded with Tropicana juice bottles. I used to rock the Minute Maid juice boxes back in the day. Ever try to function a Capri Sun when you're low. Talk about frustration. By the time you poke the straw into that invisible hole, you end getting the juice all over yourself. I gave up on Capri Suns.
Good to know! last week I left my insulin pen in my car and I thought it was spoiled because it smelled a little but funny, but I used it once and it took me blood glucose right to where it was suppose to be so I guess even if it smells funny it might still work :P
I told my wife that you said the Fridge was organized, you put a smile on her face... She was amazed.
Keep in mind there is a reason I only showed the top shelf of my fridge too... lol... maybe that bottom half is not as neat... lol... and don't mention my freezer.... YIKES!
heck, I pocket carry my humalog a bottle lasts about 20 days so, its used up before it starts getting wierd. For a while they were lasting about 35 days, on the last couple I was boosting the carb multiplier to cover the degredation. It was a habit from back when I was pocket carrying R and L Humalog.
So how exactly do you know when your insulin is going bad, when you have to over adjust to get your numbers right? If you seem to have your insulin at room temp, do you have issues with air bubbles? THanks in advance.
I have been carrying this way for a really stupid long time.. Back starting in college I got used to pocket carrying, since that was the only way for me to know that I knew where it was all the time. I gotta say, humalog is not nearly as shelf stable as humalin was.. But, I have discovered its good for about 3 weeks than I need to bump up the ratio to cover how crappy it starts getting.. That results in it never lasting more than a month..
Thanks for the info. You and your videos are not only extremely helpful. They are life saving and life changing. Keep teaching. We will keep learning. God bless you.
