  • you can use a handbrake or you can shift gear from 1. to 3. , 4. or 5. gear and release your clutch really fast to stop the car :D

  • what if its an automatic?

  • @dontbotherreading If you have shift paddles, same effect, M1 + handbreak.

If you don't, I think all you can do is change to Neutral/Reverse and yank that handbrake. Reverse might damage your car, but the thing is.. if your normal brakes are screwed, well, better to try screw up your car's reversing mechanism (can be replaced) than screw up your life (may not be replaceable).

Also, some automatic cars have 1 2 3 (without shift paddles), same thing. Gear 1 + handbrake

  • hi

  • Whatsoever.

  • that dude actually knows how to drive, what he says is fully correct, slowing down the car with only shifting into lower gears are also called engine or motor brake, and can be down with a manual or automatic too.

  • so, if your wife cut the parking brake cables, don't worry about ...just turn the key off to stop the engine and the car slows to a stop.

  • VW FOR LIFE!

  • Next video will be ''How to turn a car without a steering wheel''

  • orrrrrr just crash into another vehicle

  • what a retard the hand brake is for parking i think its better to replace normal brakes than replace a new clutch and a new hand brake. yeh good lesson on care

  • wat happens if u have automatic car... lol....

  • @129knife921

you die in an horrible manner. Thats why you should drive manual.

  • @129knife921

put it into "N" for neutral which disengages the engine from wheels then itll start to slow down, if you want you can slowly lift your E brake or slowly step on your paddle brake (whichever one your car has) if your ebrake doesnt work you're fucked :D

  • @xxsilveryoshixx

If you put into neutral "N" will remove the control on engine and makes the situation more dangerous. What will you do if your car lost the brake while driving on downhill road? Use your engine brake dude.

  • @prokxie

not sure what you are talking about. why would i keep it in drive when i want it to stop.

the situation is obviously the case where we can't use our brakes that why we use the ebrake, btw if you're refering to EBRAKE for engine break, i am afraid you are mistaken. EBRAKE stands for emergency brake.

  • next video should be how to drive a car with no engine

  • @BlightBlaze583 its simple. Tell your wife to push it

  • @BlightBlaze583 VERY TRUE!!!!!!!!!!

  • way to let the guy behind you know your braking

  • @newbielives

I'd hate to break your clever comment streak, but you can just pull over.

  • @MikeHawk1234567890 wish you made sense but I have no idea what you even referring to?

    Comment Streak?

    Pull over?

  • Over-revving isnt very good for your car!

  • @ManiacMitchUK No, but it's better than slamming into something because your brakes aren't working.

  • This is used when the brake fluid does not work. Not for fun, for all thos silly people that say "or use the brakes"

  • so many people here think they can drive better than everyone else.

  • I have an anchor with an rope attached to my car just in case

  • @Moshgfx real

  • I got another way but you will need a wall...

  • @blackcloudTM hahahahaahh! LOL!

  • or use your feet... like the flintstones

  • 15 People forgot to use the brake and died.

  • @MrDataCode how did they die if they got on youtube and press the dislike button?

  • @boxeador05 It was in their will.

  • this comes very much in handy if the road is icy on winter cause if you use the pedal brake you don't know how the car would go.

  • If your front brake pads are all worn out brake fluid might leak from the system and when you press the breaks they don't work any more (pedal goes all the way down but nothing happens). If so, then just down shift (not straight to first if you are above 40mph/60kmh lol! ;) and just the parking break (aka e-break).

He failed to mention that most automatics also lets you downshift (there you can go straight to first) - then let go of the throttle and it will downshift by it self.

  • @tannalv who ever told you that about the brakes dosent know how brakes work on a car, thats not true at all.

  • @jusjan426 Since I've had that happen to me I should know, eh? And since I've driven automatics I know about them as well.

    Troll!

  • @tannalv this will only happen if the piston in the caliper contacts the rotor due to it over traveling from no brake pads, i doubt this happend because if it did everytime you applied the breaks it would have been heard a mile away, it failed cause the caliper seal around the piston was worn and caused fluid to leak which causes your pedal to go to the floor not because of worn pads

  • he forgot to say if you pull the hand brake too hard you will transform into a japanese drifting driver xD

  • @dmdjm, these procedures are for if your regular brakes (pedal to the immediate left of the accelerator) fail.

  • i dont get it! why shouldnt i use the brake pedal to stop the car?! why use the hand brake instead?! what is this info for?!

  • @dmdjm Emergencies. These driving techniques save lives.

  • @AVCheerst apsolutly correct, and don't put your stick shift in neutral every time especially on winter's day(snow and ice) and effort to used engine breaking instead puting stick in neutral

  • Never go into first gear when already driving, it kills your transmission. But i guess this video is ment for emergencies only.

  • that wasnt a complete stop... the car turned off LOL

  • @diistriitglow no it was the handbrakes

  • how do you stop an automatic car without brakes

  • @TheMatt514 Pull the stick from D to 2nd or S, then use the handbrake.

    Basically the same shit.

  • @TheMatt514 will driving at a certain speed, shift the automatic knob down to 3 or 2 whatever you have under the ''D'' then once again...

  • Guys, read the description, this is in case the brakes fail...

  • what your gonna break your engine like that dont listen to Adam Savage

  • this is useful

    my mom has a toyota

  • i think this was more along the lines of a "just in case your brakes are failing" scenario... otherwise this is just dumb!

  • i didnt learn anything..

  • go slit ur wrist

  • Do people actually use the handbrake to stop/ slow down while driving?

  • @TraNWhiZ yep, but only if brake failure appears.

  • @MarijaSrb91 then you use your clutch

  • If you don't have brakes just gear brake it by dropping to gears and slowly letting out on the clutch and continue downshifting til your going slow enough to safely engage the parking brake or (in a real emergancy) turn the car off once your going slow and the engine compression will work like an exhaust brake and stop the car.

  • @adamhoff55 if you have no breaks dont shut the car off..trust me. the breaks went in my car once and my dad shut off the engine but when the engine is off you lose power steering and its wicked hard to steer without it. we hit a big steel pole doing like 50 it was pretty bad.

  • @ryansondrugs are u and ur dad okay now and ur car???

  • @mansoor619 yea were fine now. my dad was pretty messed up for a while and the car was junked.

  • @ryansondrugs when cars brakes dont work so isnt there any good way to stop it?

  • @ryansondrugs why didn't you use handbrake?

  • What if your going down hill an have no brakes can you put it in reverse an neutral until it slows down if you have automatic.

  • : @rob92376, if you don't have any brakes never put the car in neutral. neutral means that the drive train is disconnected from the engine and is has minimal friction.

  • ok cuz a handbrake isnt a brake? dumbass:)

  • Truck drivers slow their trucks that way often, it is called a "jake brake"

If you have "sudden brake failure" and just use the parking brake, you can go into a skid and lose control. It is improtant to slow the vehicle down first.

  • I think it's more economical to put it in neutral and use the breaks. More safer too.

Well, I wouldn't know, thats just info I collected from youtube.

  • @Izoto593 It's not even close to safe. Where I live, to pass a driving exam you have to be able to stop a car downshifting into a lower gear like 1st or 2nd. And believe me, it's a lot safer rather than using only the brakes.

  • thats true... especially if you do not have abs... your tires are a lot less likely to lock if ur car is in gear as you slow down

  • @NewCoordinator Yeah. Downshifting is very useful when going down hills since you're not putting so much stress on the brakes. I've seen people getting their brakes on fire when putting the car in neutral and only slowing down using them.

  • @Izoto593 more safer?

  • yes but if you dont have brakes, how would you do that , smart one?

  • @zzzzoooommmmgggg

I forgot... Don't mind me. There was a video where this guy did it, but I totally forgot it.

  • Otay :3

  • @zzzzoooommmmgggg

Yeah when I look back on that comment, I'm like "wtf i had to be high to say that"

  • Rofl

  • my car's handbrake doesnt work at all, you can put the handbrake on while driving or parked on a hill and the car will be unaffected by it and still roll i dont know why.

It is an automatic though so im pretty much screwed if the brakes fail? cant put it in park while the car is moving either.

  • your handbrake cable is loose or not connected, this can easly be fixed, good luck!

  • I'll just do it Indiana Jones style by sticking a metal flag pole in the wheel

    wait that would never work

have a rear grappling hook and hook on to something?

  • oh gosh, use the handbrake to stop the car ONLY when your footbrake is spoilt and not to stop the vehicle when there is nothing wrong! it will spoil your car please!

  • ERrrrm he isnt smart enough to say , to stop a car with no brakes put it in 5fith gear and turn the engine off. and ride the clutch alot to avoid the chronic jolts, :) hahaha

  • @jonnijames just stop the car like spiderman stopped the train:P

  • wtf handbrake while driving?! Insane!

  • @perfect1oNN yeah. its called drifting

  • @perfect1oNN

well, obviously, you will FIRST slow down the car by down shifting the car... when the engine slows the car enough (lets say, the equivalent of 1st or 2nd gear) than you can use the handbrake more safely.

  • @perfect1oNN no it's normal. If you are on slippery surface use handbrake smoothly, not like this guy

  • anybody who didnt know this already is a retard.

if you dont know this then youshouldnt be driving.,

most people use engine breaking anyways. like change from 5 to fourth when coming into a lower speed limit zone, and take foot off acellerator.

  • Doesn't downshifting put unnecessary strain on your engine?

  • yes, you should never 'over-rev' it. you should jus use ur brakes, and only downshift on revs that the transmission will be comfortable, and essentially wont be too loud!

  • or you can just use the brakes...lol

  • @apo123321 yea you can but what are ya gonna do if your brakes fail?

  • @apo123321 what happens if they break.. and fail? a hydraulic leak? someone cut the line?

  • @apo123321 he means downshifting with out slowing it too much :)

  • @apo123321 u cant use the brakes because if u press the brake, it dont work.-BRAKE FAILIURE :D

hes teaching u how to stop da car wen dere is brake failure

  • @apo123321

idk why he is using the handbrake but when I'm Driving it you change up an extra gear and let the clutch bite you can slow the car down by going that. But because your american you drive an automatic so you have no clue what i am saying.

  • @apo123321 And replace them sooner too! :)

  • He shouldn't have said to put it in 1st, if you do that going at over 60km/h you'll crush the first gear

  • Is it with gear or Automatik?

  • manual transmission

  • Be careful when pulling the handbrake, you could in fact spin out of control if you are turning.

  • i had something like that when my brakes went out going 60 MPH down street heading for a dead end I just Thought fast and Pulled the E-Brake HARD AS I COULD

  • thanks.... but how about without brakes and handbrake what should i do..

  • u need a little bit of stopping power do u can just do what he does and use your brake very little to do a complete stop and your brakes will last you a very long time. my brakes lasted me about 9 years before i needed to change them.

  • abandon ship

  • @JaRuleRulezZ stop the car like spiderman stopped the train:P

  • The object of this video is sort of academic : a full and sudden brake failure is very unlikely.

  • maybe its not working for w.e reason and you don't want to crash into a wall and die?

  • lol

  • Did he died?

  • without brakes. But the handbrake lolololol

  • so if ur in a automatic transmission car ur fucked

  • no, automatics also have these numbers under the D.. 3,2,1.. those are also gears in teh transmission and they really do about the same effect if carefully used one at a time. its just not as graceful of a stop, but works.

  • right.

  • lol pretty much!

  • You look like Adam Savage from mythbusters :D

  • LOL YEAH HE DOES

  • haha..you're right!

  • @igor87ki lol i agree :P

  • @igor87ki Identical twins XD

  • @igor87ki myth confirmed!

  • @igor87ki i reject your reality and substitute my own! *crunch* oops.. .

  • only when the brakes go out not every day because brake pads are cheaper than cluches and new engines when they over rev so no high rev downshifts and e brake still uses brake pads

  • How to u stop a car with brakes? im serious how?

  • press your foot on the left paddle then on the middle

  • By using the brake? Or you can slam your car into a wall. That'll help.

  • i passsssssseddddddddddd my road test!!

  • i though over reving was super bad.

  • I also thought dieing because your brakes didnt work was super bad too.

  • yea but its better than crashing into something

  • Why would anyone want to stop car like that???

  • in an emergency

  • only do this in case of emergencies

  • MAN DRIVE ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • nice advice .. thx .. btw u said " what so ever " 4 times ... man .. control ur self .. ha ha .. thx very very much
