I have been a dancer for several years, and booty shaking is NOT a part of modern dance. If she so badly wanted to have modern dance incorporated into her act, she could have taken a more subtle classy approach. This dance did not do any justice for the beautiful song or bharathanatyam. In other words, this was a FAIL. She is a wonderful dancer, and seems to have so much potential. This was a waste.

Absolutely disgusting, I teach classical Indian fusion in Melbourne, Australia. I like to fuse certain sounds and styles when it's justified- but how is this justified? It's not totally her fault, the recent fixation on Indian dancing around the globe has strongly pushed individuals and organisations to showcase it's talent. Unfortunately there is an emergence of 'newer' choreography and these mixed styles are ignorant to, or have abandoned most religious significance (more so than the past).

The booty popping in the beginning was just untasteful. I get the concept, it's cool a mix of hip hop with classical style dance. It CAN work, if done properly. I think attempting to do untasteful hip hop with a very elegant classical piece doesn't work out. If slightly more graceful hip hop im sure this piece wouldn't have been bad at all.
