If you think it's a rip-off of Killer Instinct, because of being a 3D rendered fighting game, you might be correct; however, before Avengers in Galactic Storm and Killer Instinct had 3D rendered sprites in a fighting game, there was One Must Fall: 2097 and probably Rise of the Robots.

Avengers in Galactic Storm being the first fighting game with assistant characters (commonly referred to either as "helpers" or by the KOF trademark name "Strikers") was its merit.
